I’ve gotta admit I’m one of those die hard Perry fans and after 12 years, I just happened to have Arnels RUclips page pop up on my feed and saw he was singing an oldie fav of mine. I’ve been sitting here watching one video after another of him singing some of my favorite songs from the past. Made me appreciate him in a way I never have before. I’m so sorry for all the comparisons everyone makes and honestly all the comparisons I’ve made myself. I see him now as a humble and beautiful singer with an amazing voice who is able to tackle so many genres and such a variety of singers and songs. I’ve realized he’s a super talented man who deserves so much more credit than he gets. I’m sorry Arnel that u were given such an impossible task to replace such a popular frontman…. Impossible situation for any singer to be put in. You are truly talented and I’ve loved every song I’ve sat and watched u sing this morning. I’ve seen comments ppl have made on Arnels performance on the Rock n roll hall of fame induction ceremony, but if we r being honest, Steve Perry can’t hit all those high notes he used to hit either. Sometimes I wonder if that’s why Steve really never joined back up with Journey. Ppl behind the band have always worked both Steve and Arnel like a work horse. They never got enough time off to rest their voices. A lot of greedy ppl behind the music ( or possibly Neal ) want the money to keep pumping out and it can ruin even the very best of voices or cause them to have a bad performance. It’s time for everyone to recognize what a treasure Arnel is and just enjoy his singing. You are pretty dang awesome Arnel !! Much love 💕💕💕💕💕

Couldn't of said it better. He is definitely talented and a excellent singer.
As a professional musician & singer I can tell you that very few of the big league singers have Arnel's degree of vocal control & expression. No one can perform perfectly all the time. The traveling, interviews & Social events that a front person is expected to do is far more punishing than most people realise. Managers, record companies & even other band members often expect miracles. I have played multi keyboards with a broken hand twice & I can tell you it was easy compared to singing for 2 hours straight with 2 broken ribs!
Arnel, you have had to follow one of the greatest rock legends & I, as a professional who has sung some Journey's songs, I can say truthfully, you have gone beyond expectations. May you have all the success & happiness happiness you so definitely deserve.

Arnel really is extraordinary. Very talented.Any song he can give justice to the song.
It has become clear to me that Arnel is not trying to be Steve. I think he never did. He simply happened to have the same voice range as that of Steve's. He's been like that when Journey found him. He simply put on the shoe left by Perry and helped bring Journey's songs back to life. This guy is simply talented. Nuff said.

I actually don't understand why people keeps saying he's immitating SP. They're both great vocalists but they don't sound alike. I checked out some of his cover videos before Journey and the way he sings with Journey is the way he reeeally sings. I don't see immitation. It's just how he really sound.

@@erlindafields8897 Arnel is a good singer but he is no Steve Perry. He isn’t trying to be either. That’s not a knock on Arnel. It’s fact. He doesn’t have the range of Perry. Castronovo had to sing certain songs live such as Mother, Father because Arnel didn’t have that range.
He shouldn't be compared to Steve Perry anymore. He's been with us long enough we should simply rate him on his talent, which is absolutely amazing. Great job, as always, Arnel!

He rocked every single note in Durant, Oklahoma on January 27th, the band was in top shape and as cohesive as wine and cheese. Don't believe all those nasty tumors. These men were professional and respectful and Jonathan Cain thanked Arnel profusely at the end of the show. These men were well-reheased and each piece of the Journey family deserves credit for whatever they bring to the band. Much ❤️...[ps. Most of these die hard Perry loyalists never fails to compare him to Steve regardless of how many years already has gone by. Arnel has been with this band for over 12 years and I say its long overdue already to not give him the nudge of respect that he trully deserves. He's not there to compete or disrespect Steve, instead Arnel is there to preserve and continue the Journey legacy. He has his own amazing and beautiful unique sound! A rare talent! Respect!!!

Whether or not Arnel sounds like Steve Perry has been debated and argued over a decade now and I don't think it's that important anymore because he isn't exactly a Perry-clone and I seriously doubt that he himself thinks he is. With that said, we got a singer here that can sing just about anything and everything thrown at him and he does a great job with it, which is more than enough reason for us music fans to appreciate and treasure in this unusually challenging time. Thank you, Arnel.
Some were even funny saying that Arnel imitates Steve Perry's voice. Yes, he sounds like Steve because he was singing a song we used to hear from Steve. He didn't imitate Steve, he just sings with the passion of singing the song in its original style. Arnel is a versatile singer.
@@nhonochannel You can't say Arnel was never inspired by Steve Perry's singing before and after joining Journey since all the hit songs by the band were originally sung by Perry. To me, Arnel doesn't sound close enough to Perry to be his vocal clone, and yes, he's certainly very versatile in singing a wide range of catalog, which makes him an excellent singer in his own right.

Idt there's another Arnel Pineda after Steve Perry once he leave the band. That means Journey will just a classic and a legend after for no one can exceed what the present frontman did.

I started as a drummer at the age of 9 yrs.old in Mexico loving the bands like Santana and Chicago I grew up being a big fan of all the bands of that generation. Now I'm 58 yrs. old and still love now what is called classic rock and Arnel is not different than all the greatest singers that I grew up listening to

My son is 14 years old and he LOVES Journey since he was 7. Finally I had the opportunity to take him to a concert two days ago. He was fascinated by Arnel!! He said that Arnel has the energy of a 5 year old. He ask me that when Journey comes back to town he was to see them again. Thank you Arnel for being so humble and for keeping Journey alive!!!
Like you Stacey, I stumbled across Arnel after hearing a Journey song on the radio. After using the Magic Google Machine, I came to discover Arnel and am simply dumbfounded about his talent, humility and grace. I only hope Journey can continue to evolve with him. BTW, I've decided to contribute to Arnel's foundation for street kids in Manila. I encourage others to do so, as well.

It's not about Toto, it's not about Journey, it's about talent and musicianship. Arnel is a great singer, and the right man at the right time. I like to hear him singing and it is worth to keep this kind of music alive, the westcoast rock of the 80's.
But he can't come up with his own stuff that's any good. Just listen to the original recordings of the bands of the 80's, that's why they made and released those recordings. They deserve the accolades, royalties and credit.
That's why the original recordings of Journey outsell anything that Journey did with Arnel. Cover singers rarely sell more than the original hit maker.
I agree. It's also a question of timing. Steve was the one and only as long this music was mainstream. Journey found their style with the vocal range of Steve. Arnel is not member of the foundation setup, and when the band found him, it was clear, what they want.
Arnel has his own music that he has written and is amazing. Checkout "Owe" , "Wrong", "Hiling" and recently "Soldiers he wrote especially for the frontline workers of Covid-19. Arnel is an amazing talent and soul. Grateful he does these performances to keep us all sane and smiling. He's working on his own songs right now also during the quarantine. Arnel keeps the "JOURNEY" going on.!!!

Sorry, but it's not making it for me.. It's a little sappy and there isn't any really great melodies. It all seems pretty generic and nothing really stood out to me.

Back in 1983 I was a young Marine in Olongapo city looking for a good bar to hang out in. I remember being drawn to a club by the sound of a band covering Journey’s “Seperate Ways”. They sounded so good that the memory imprinted on my brain and I can hear it like if it were yesterday. I could swear now that it was Arnel but I have no way of truly knowing. In any case Arnel I love you for the magic of your voice and what you bring to the songs that “made” my life. Thank you!
It was indeed AP you heard, Olongapo city along Magsaysay Road was his neck of the wood and where all this things begun. He was much better then, when Journey hired him 11-12 years ago he was already beyond his prime...but still good enough.

Arnel is a natural born singer. His ability to sing is coming from his heart and his vocal chords. Brilliant.
One thing that I love with Arnel is his unique voice. It's soothing and very beautiful. I don't understand why people compare him to others, if you hear Arnel's voice in person you will understand what I mean.

Everytime Ijo’s band would play at Shakey’s new frontier, we’d be always take the front seats just to listen to this guy who was just 15 yrs old at that time! Over pizza and fried chicken, we wondered where life would take him because he is so talented! God did not forsake him! So happy for what happened to Arnel! Hope to sit in front again in one of journey’s concerts!
Arnel is absolutely awesome! Sings Journey, sings Chicago, sings Police, Sings Toto better than the original singers clear soaring tone; and yes Perry in his prime could step to Arnel, not the other way around. Arnel is more versatile and has the same power of Perry. Of course tone quality I would give the slight edge to Perry. Arnel = GOAT status: if you look at his story and his body of work; he has a case for GOAT. This band is killer too. Those back up vocalists are smooth as ice...love it. Great band makes a huge dif! Better than the original singers? Cetera, Sting, Steve Perry and Bobby Kimball made the songs that they performed vocals for incredibly special. I love Arnel but to state that he performs their songs better is a massive overstatement.

If you were to watch Arnel in his cover band in the Philippines pre-Journey, you’d know Arnel has the unique ability to sing and sound like a variety of artists. Arnel Pineda is not Steve Perry. He is a great vocalist and had contributed much for the existence of Journey up to now 2022. He is more gifted than Steve Perry, his passion in his singing and his tenacity to perform and give his best for his audience. And that he had lasted for more than 10 years, much more than Steve Perry and all the other vocalist who took over Steve Perry's place. The management got a lot of money from this band and from Arnel by making work almost concert after concert without giving enough time to rest his voice. Arnel Pineda is our pride and we will love and adore his gift of singing beautiful songs in his own style even long after he will be gone. He is a great pride of the Filipinos and nobody has the right to berate, hate, or downgrade, or compare him with Steve Perry. He is a great vocalist in his own right. Not only can he sing anything , he has a unique talent . He adapts to who ever or what song nor band ... I don’t mean he try’s to mimic cause he’s not but each band haves a special sound and he can sing to that spacific sound , that’s not eazy to do and I’m forever grateful of Neil for seeing that as well and bringing him here to the states !

My fave personal Toto song after Africa, and sang no less by the legendary Arnel Pineda is so haunting. He has never copied Steve Perry; the fact is, he holds his rare talent and has a bigger heart than Perry. Look at his longevity, his heart, and his passion. This guy has our respect, period. Superb cover Arnel. I’ve been a Toto (and Journey) fan for over 40 years and never thought anyone one can come close to Luke’s vocals, but you killed it.
Honestly I knew who journey was , didn’t pay much attention to their music, then when I heard Arnel Pineda sing with the band journey I became an instant fan, and continue to follow Pineda, he was given a talent , gift from the creator, when he sings it touches many hearts all over this world, and here I am from a small community in James Bay Ontario we live on an island at the tip of James Bay , and here journey has a fan!!!! All the best to journey , they also have a lead guitarist who makes a sound from his guitar that gives you goose bumps, and that voice that comes along with it!!!!

Arnel, you totally made a believer out of me with your performance that night. 👍👍 People need to get off the Steve Perry bandwagon. I have been overwhelmed by many, many 'covers' of songs on RUclips, but this version of one of Toto's best songs just trumps the lot. Arnel's interpretation of the lyrics and vocals are sublime and the pianist has the principle scoring perfectly.

Arnel, this one of my favorite songs ever. You certainly captured the essence of the vocal. If it had never been heard before people would think this your song. I love both the original and your vocal version equally. Exceptional!

This is proof that great songs are just great songs. This song is what? 35 or so years old and it is great. Arnel is just damn good. I never understood why people bashed him for not being Steve. Without Arnel, Journey would not even be around anymore. INstead, Arnel took the torch and has allowed Neal and Jonathan to keep that Journey music alive. Thank you for allowing us to keep a piece of our younger yeras for a little longer Arnel. Someday soon, all of our childhood bands are gonna be gone......but JOurney gets to live on for a little while longer because of Arnel. Thank you dear sir.

I have seen Arnel on the stage recently with Journey. These guys put on a huge show, play more songs, and give so much energy that you'll have no wonder about burnout. I've seen the band with Steve, too. There is a definite difference. Either way, these are guys that love what they do, love music, and I love them all.
Arnel, when I first heard your story, I knew it was a true miracle and opened my heart and mind to believing that the miracle I had always dreamt of for my own life could happen, as well.
The next several years were extremely arduous for me, but my dream did become a reality. My miracle happened. Two years ago I met my True Love.
Acclimating to such a powerfully intense energy as Divine Love has been overwhelming, a bit intimidating at times, and even down-right scary, but by the grace of God, our bond is growing deeper, stronger and sweeter each day.
This song beautifully illustrates the process that mine and so many other Divine Masculines have undergone. That is, growing into a deeper understanding of the nature of Divine Love; like nature's fury, in all It's facets.
I feel when Toto released this song, it introduced us to a world in which this attaining this level of Love was possible, and the timing in which you are performing it is perfectly in sync with realization of it between my Beloved and me.
All these years of listening to Toto's version, I thought he was saying he wouldn't hold her back from leaving, and now, listening to your version, so eloquently laced with your energy, I realize that he is conveying to her that he won't hold her love at bay because now he is ready for the power, intensity, sweetness, and all else true love entails.
A perfect anthem of where we are as a collective ushering in the New paradigm of Divine Love, and who better to render it than you...a vessel through whom God renders His Miracles, Light and Love through you and your lovely wife.

This is the most underrated song off of Toto IV. Roseanne and Africa kind of drowned out all the gems on this Grammy-winner but this has always been my favorite.

This really was one of Toto's masterpieces. The string/horn arrangements are nerve tingling, Timothy B Schmitt's backing vocals are killer, and Luke's heart crushing solo take your breath away. Vocally, this might have been Luke's best and most challenging, so for Arnel to attempt this shows some balls, and he nailed it. Fantastic job, Arnel!
