    Great video I'm having the same issue and replaced the EGR with no testing, check engine light came back on a week later. Your video is what I need to test properly. You are very knowledgeable, thanks

    hello Eli, excellent way to approach an EGR problem and any code associated with it and as you mentioned to know the circuit designed if it is ground or power control side is very important in checking any sensor or solenoid. thanks for all your videos they contain good info as I, watch and learn cheers my friend.

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  5 лет назад

      By the looks of your voltage readings, I see that your sensor ground is not within specs, should be less than 0.1V. Looks like you have a harness issue on pin 3 or maybe pcm problem. The next step would be to check the voltage at the pcm and see if you get the same voltage reading of 3.35V

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  3 года назад +1

      Make sure your your harness connector doesn't have any spread female pins. Maybe, the characteristics of the New egr valve are not compatible. Its hard to say, without proper diagnostic testing.

  • @philandfamily9298
    @philandfamily9298 5 лет назад

    How can u tell if it’s the egr valve connector housing or the wiring harness itself that is faulty?

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  5 лет назад

      By doing a wiggle test on the harness itself while watching the voltage meter for any glitches. Sometimes the female connectors tend to spread open to the point where it does not make a proper connection with the male connector. Always check power and ground on any circuit.

  • @philandfamily9298
    @philandfamily9298 5 лет назад

    I tested my signal wire (1st one) and got a reading of 3.5 volts slight fluctuations. I also have codes for circuits high and low po405 and po406. How do I address this extra voltage. What would cause this? My engine does not seem to run differently either but code will not go away? Pls help thanks.

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  5 лет назад

      A reading of of 3.5 volts is a good reading for this vehicle. Did you already do a visual inspection on the egr valve's pintle for any carbon build up

    • @philandfamily9298

    • @philandfamily9298
      @philandfamily9298 5 лет назад

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  5 лет назад

      @@philandfamily9298 it sounds correct, you may have an intermittent connection between the male pins and female connector (harness connector)

    Where is the exhaust recerc sensor located on a dodge 4.7 engine?

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  3 года назад

      Hey Stanley, if I'm not wrong, the EGR Valve for 4.7L should be located in the left rear of the firewall. In other words, left rear driver side. Close to the throttle body.

    I replaced my EGR valve then 2 weeks later my Check engine light came back on and the code was the exact same thing the EGR valve code P0404? Could I have gotten a bad replacement part that failed early?

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  3 года назад +1

      Was it an aftermarket egr replacement ? If so, it's a possibility that it went bad. Another possibility, harness connector issue, spreaded terminals or an electrical issue.

      @johnchapman3225 3 года назад +1

      @@EliTheOBDTech Thank you I will check into it, I am replacing the water pump this weekend and While I have it off Im going to replace the EGR valve once again plus the 02 sensors are also showing bad. Might as well getter done while I cranking wrenches. Any suggestions for checking the harness ?

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  3 года назад +1

      @@johnchapman3225 First thing I would do, check power and ground going to the egr valve. If all checks all good, back probe the signal wire and do a wiggle test to check for any signal dropouts. That will tell you that you may have a spreaded signal terminal or faulty egr sensor. You can visually check the harness connector and compare for any spread terminals.

    Hi,
    My husband's 2007 dodge ram keeps showing that egr code even though we have gotten it replaced about 5 times. For some reason, nobody can fix the issue properly. What should we do because we need this issue fixed asap so we can pass smog.

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  5 лет назад +1

      I would recommend doing voltage checks to determine if it's not a harness issue. I would also check if the egr system is not partially clogged with carbon deposits, especially near the intake manifold.

    I have an 04 dodge ram 1500 st 4x4 5.7 , did new egr and pipe . Checked pin 1 and 2 both had 7.48 volts give or take. And pin 3 had 12v last 2 pins were 0 volts , the tpim had a bad connection I found idk if that is still the reason why the check light still is on? Is this correct for volts on those pins?

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  3 года назад

      Both Pins 1 n 2 voltages ⚡are too high. Most likely a bad EGR valve. Secondly, wiring issue.
