The problem is not the car... its your sister who doesn't know how to keep a car in a good state. This car is definitely not the worst one, all mechanics say how good they are! I have one myself and it's the same model but in a much better state. Very affordable, smooth and problem free if you keep to a regular service. Parts are easily accessed here in Malta, better than a Peugeot as you'll end up leaving it aside waiting the parts for months! Don't be bias... if you don't like the car it doesn't mean it's the worst one ;)

I’ve a 2005 Hyundai Atos with an automatic gearbox, airconditioning, central door lock, electric windows and I absolutely love it.
The automatic gearbox and engine run very smooth.
It’s really fuel efficient and reliable. Loads of headspace and if you fold over the rear seats you can fit a ton of stuff in it.
Is it good looking or fast? No. Will it impress people? No.
But it will get you from point A to B in a safe and comfortable way.
The problem is not the car. It’s your sister who doesn’t want to spend any money on maintenance and she doesn’t even keeps the car clean.

We have one 2003 Atos Prime 1.0 GLS model (kind of cuter version of the standard "washing machine" body style of the car in the video, but mechanically equivalent) and it's a excellent car for the price we paid, around 9k€. Even if it was and is driven in a demanding way (I made trip through the italian Alps) it never had critical problems, just few light bulbs (only front) to replace and normal maintenance, oil replacement, etc. As 2018, it is still running with 260000km...

278000km for a 2003 model, Atos prime GLS, Italy. Interior is yes...typical Hyundai of that era, not so high quality (on the other hand, other economy cars like from FIAT, were not better). But the mechanic department is impressive: never had problems in the engines, just regular maintenance and probably around 5 headlight bulbs in total replaced In the last years, run sometimes with very low oil, but start and operates like a Swiss clock. Power steering fully working as well as AC (by the way, never had to recharge it). No rust, had only to renovated recently the opaque cover of the headlights with toothpaste hahaha.

Actually, this is a great city car. It has a lot of power for such a small car (search for "Hyundai ATOS 1.0 Sprint 0-100km/h"). If you fold the rear seats, it has a lot of room in the back. Not the best option for long travel but as a city car it's great - short and narrow, you can park it where other cars won't fit. Condition of the vehicle depends on the owner of the vehicle. Mine is 1999, runs and looks great. There is no problem starting the engine at very low temperatures. Brakes are weak in this car and because it's tall and narrow it's very susceptible to crosswinds.

Your sister because she has turned a very reliable, practical and spacious (for its dimensions) car into a piece of crap, and you because you are using the result of your sister's mistreatment to claim that the car is crap. Along the last 30 years I have owned a number of cars ranging from TOYOTAs, SUZUKIs, BMWs, AUDIs, but I never thought of getting rid of my beloved 1999 ATOS, bought in 2003 with 27,000 KM and now running at 175,000 KM. Better to say your sister car (whatever model or brand it is) is the worse car. Sorry but it is so obvious she didn't care that car that's why you found it in that status.

I can only comment on the one I had "I use to sell a few cars back in the day" and for a cheap runaround it was great probably the slickest little gearbox I've ever driven but it was a buy it sell it car, kept it for a couple of months but as a town car great but you wouldn't want to be doing many motorway miles that's for sure but gets a big thumbs up from me👍

I owned the newer version to this, the Amica. I'd say "worst" car in the world is a bit harsh.
Ugliest, eh, it's not the prettiest, but have you ever seen a Nissan Leaf? However many years newer and fugly asf.
It's about expectation. You can pick up low mile good condition ones of the Amica (pre and post facelift) for like, £350-600. So if you're expectations are in the right place about buying a cheap no thrills, but reliable and economical car, for that money, they're actually pretty respectable. In fact I got given a free pre-facelift Amica with 60k on it that needed MOT. All it took was rear shoes and a set of wipers and got a fresh years ticket and had literally nothing go wrong with it at all. So for £35 in parts and a £40 MOT invested, I'm certainly winning at £75 for a car that I've beaten on for over 6 months with nothing going wrong at all.
Personally tempted to try shoe horn in a 1.4 or 1.6 lump. The 1.6 with 103bhp and 115lb/ft of torque in one of the lightest cars I've owned would certainly surprise a few people because the one thing with these cars...
...They are F**KING slow as standard. Lol. So in other words, what I'm saying is, they're cheap as chips for good ones, reliable, cheap to maintain, and assuming the 1.6 will go in (the gearbox seems to be the pain looking online at parts pictures) you could even have a pretty quick little sleeper. And I've certainly got to say - no ones done it before, so it would at least be unique. If perhaps for questionable reasons!

Believe it or not I actually love these little Atos cars. So simple, so lovely. The shape is kinda ugly but the car serves it's purpose and is very functional. Loads of headroom too. They are designed for city/town driving but do pretty well on the highways as well. They are so lightweight that the tiny 60 HP engines can get up to speed pretty quick when merging onto highways, and can sustain 100+ kms/hr long distance with ease, no problem. I don't recommend them as a primary vehicle for regular long distance driving though. Tiny engines like these will wear out quicker than like a 1.6 L 4 cyl engine with more horse power, because there will be more internal stress on the engine's low HP. With a 100+ HP engine one never really gets close to maxing out the HP in any normal driving, but with these Atos cars it's almost regularly at the max HP 'threshold'. But as a city/town car with occasional highway driving they're great! Cheap & Cheerful. The manual is more peppy than the automatic, both in town driving & merging onto highways.

Check if the coolant hoses are correctly installed. I once had this problem where the coolant reservoir was always depleting as if it had a leak or it was being sucked out or something. Turns out there must be only 1 hose from the coolant reservoir back to the radiator. Nothing more. Anything more is a sloppy job from someone's handiwork.

So, do you have some sort of agenda to victimize this little car? What's the point of the recurring video snip of the exhaust misfiring...? I'm sure that this would have been in the first few seconds of cold start only...but why keep repeating it, when the driving part seems to show the car running just fine? Oh, and I guess your attitude of American superiority extends to the fact that you're immortal (not wearing seatbelts is so macho). Please. This could have been an encouraging video to those of us who can't afford new vehicles and I'm sure your sister was impressed with your video of the interior stating that she 'doesn't care about the car' and that's why there was so much trash in it.

I have this trash of a car(Santro GL). But one thing is good for this is - this one can take a beating and still run.
I am currently 100000+km ODO, returning around 14kmpl of petrol usage. Only niggle I have is - it is low on power, with AC on, the car struggles to pull.
Other than that I don't have any problem with it. Handling is a bit of woolly though.

I'm not trying to be against anything but I am really against the gear ratio of the car. I mean first gear only gets to 40km/h? That sort of gear ratio is way too short. If any of you come to Malaysia one day, go try out the Proton Iriz. Jesus Christ that car of ours has great handling. Performance is only acceptable but still, stability is more important than speed!
