I miss my Detroit 470hp 60 series on my 1996 Freightliner. Was a great powerful engine! Was good on fuel too. Today's modern electronic engines are so much without character.
My grandpa has one of these, a model 6067BK60 to be precise, in his 2000 Kenworth T2000. Only had one major problem, everything else was just regular maintenance.
Fantastic! Again just like the inline 6-71, the series 50, typical General motors and Detroit Diesel fashion, it has its own unique characteristic sound.
mowmaal pre-egr 12.7 was a money-making beast. If you kept clean oil & fuel in them they’d wear your ass out trying to wear them out. Once egr got slapped on them it was a shame to see the difference in their performance.
Wayne Swicegood thanks for the info. Looking at a 1997 pierce quantum pumper with a 12.7 470HP to turn into a project flatbed. It has 90,000 miles which I think would be considered extremely low
This is one classical bad ass of a diesel engine ever made! I love this engine! I grew up as a kid in the 80s and 90s of hearing garbage trucks in the neighborhood in the morning heading to school with the ole Detroit whistling/roaring/clink rattle noise it makes, while it was passing up the block. Such a amazing clinking/rattling whistling/ throaty sound it 🤤😍🥰
Gabriel Johnson When I went on a school field trip to DC, I fell asleep overnight to the sound of the turbo spoiling I loved the sound of this engine and I believe it was also a 4500 I was on
What makes that whirring sound at idle? Not all diesels do that, but some like the 3406E does and I wanna say it's the turbo but it's not. I'm aware of turbo whistle...hmm 🤔
*before Daimler started slapping detroit badges on Mercedes engines. IIRC MTU owns the off-highway half of Detroit, and produces 60 series and 92 series crate engines.
Esta merda não é dois tempos, não gostei! Por que não deram uma boa atualizada para consumir e poluir menos nos tradicionais 2 tempos da marca? 2 stroke is better!
i love that distinctive series 60 idle sound
Same
Volvo D13 sounds a bit similar

We still run them on KW, IH and frightliner trucks..All older than 2000.....
I just bought a 470hp 1996 60 series yesterday fully rebuilt yesterday. Lets Go!!!
One the best performing motors produced
Marco Akara it’s an engine. A motor is electric powered
Maybe the best motor produced
@@mike5162 Engines can be motors, motors cant be engines (assuming they are electric)
yup they don't even have run on oil lol....from experience
Wrong. An engine is a type of motor. An electric motor isn't the only kind of motor..
The engine that got me to and from work in MCI D-series coach busses.

Sounds like a Cummins version of the series 50
Reminds me of my first due’s old rig, 2001 Seagrave Marauder
Fantastic! Again just like the inline 6-71, the series 50, typical General motors and Detroit Diesel fashion, it has its own unique characteristic sound.
beautiful sound. in Poland it was mounted in Jelcz C424 (Polish truck tractor) 1992-1996 😍😍
Series 60 is a bad ass engine

I put 1.3 million on a 2000 model 500hp 12.7
@@prevost8686 what year did they start the egr?
Farout397 I believe it was 2003.

Absolutely beautiful!!
Unmistakable turbo sound of a 60 series.
Always whistling.
Where can I get the workshop manual for this engine?
I was remembering about this Engine when i was at San Jac lol
I love the the fav seagrave fire engine Detroit
is there any way you can contact me? I have a question on a Detroit engine.
Would you recommend this for a Gillig 35 and 40 foot transit bus?
A bit too large and power for a standard transit bus. A Series 50 would be a much better choice.

I was on an MCI D4500 yesterday and it had this same engine

Probably timing gears.
Não é este motor que a volvo compra pra colocar nos caminhões.
