I changed the filter on my '07 A160CDi, and instead of priming it with a pump like this, I turned the ignition to II for 15 seconds, 5 times. I could feel the diesel being pumped around and filling the filter. It started first time.
Good video; thanks. I didn't prime mine (OM646 engine) as such but I did pour out a little of the diesel from the old filter (post filtration) and into the new one and it started first time...it was only a few drops mind
works fine on the OM646 engine. useless on the earlier OM611 engine fitted to the earlier w203 C220 CDi though as there isnt a place to fit the pipe with the primer bulb on the filter fitted to cars with the OM611
G’day mate thanks for the video, I had a question for you, my 08 cdi 220 I checked today around the fuel filter has like a oil and the hoses next to it the ones has a metal pipe the to rubber hoses has a oil on them not much when I look at the engine cover it has a oil in a sound shape ,, I couldn’t no from where that oil came from ? Any idea Many thanks 🙏 Matt
hi! i own a c200cdi 116 hp. it is a w203 estate model, avantgarde with 6 speed manual transmission. i seem to have problems with the fuel delivery from the tank to the fuel filter. when the left side of the tank has fuel in it up to half the right side is close to no fuel. is there a problem in my car!? shouldn't the both sides equalize themselves!?
It used to be a common problem on the older model but I can’t remember if it’s the pump that pumps the fuel from one tank to the other or the relay, they normally run out of fuel but still show fuel on the gauge, if you top up the tank and they will restart.
OM612 in W163 need all the help they can get when the system's been opened, excessive cranking otherwise! Dw, ;) I'm a qualified Benz tech, others pressurise the fuel tank with air to aid the weak low pressure pump.
This is the Mercedes recomended way but they will normally bleed without using it, but may need a lot of cranking on the starter motor if they take in to much air.
I would say if turn the key to position two then go open the bleeder valve until fuel comes out then quickly close it. Use a rag. Then turn off the key. Turn key to start ... should start right up.

It doesnt require any of this as you just pop on the new filter and tighten hoses, turn the ignition and hey presto the wonders of self bleeding!

The first question would be is the pump working, many hand primers seem to fail and you would need to use a tool like the one in the video

Mercedes in the video is a 2004 C220 CDI with DPF fitted
Ask The Mechanic how to bleed a 320 CSI diesel
hello do i connect the pump to the large pipe and leave the small pipe on? i had to replace the small pipe and now need to bleed the system. thanks

Hi Mr Mechanic, do you connect the pump to in or outlet of the filter?
cant you bleed it by turning ignition on?
what size must be the rubber hand primer pump hose 8 or 10 mm ?
do you have oil change and serpentine belt change video for this engine
You don't need to prime fuel systems with a lift pump.
do you have to use a hand primer?

I'm lazy, I just crack off the injectors and crank it - CDI engines don't cut off limbs like everyone says they do :P
i pump 3 times but nothing hapend why .what wrong im doing just the pump its not working
They are normally ok and will self bleed
Ask The Mechanic hi how often fuel filter need to be changed (E220 65 reg) if you could let me know please thanks
If the engine goes into limp mode randomly replace the fuel filter
Do you need to do this on 2009 models if you run out of diesel

you dont must to bleed when you changing the filter :o only if you will run out of diesel ...
Help, my injector no 2 is leaking 2003 w203 Mercedes c220
Is this Clean Diesel or just a standard Diesel Mercedes Engine
On my Mercedes E320CDI 2003 when I run it it smells ov egg I think it's the cat what can I do to stop the smell
Colin Boxford all cats stink
Only stink if the cat has been poisoned with high sulphur content fuel
take it to the vet and blame it on the dog,
Not a good practice and not necessary with common rail
