He makes a very important point about the way that determined study habits create a basis of knowledge that can then be used for creative thought. This is absolutely true, and actually vital for productive endeavor. I've always argued against the current theories here in the U.S. that rote learning is unnecessary or harmful and that young people should be allowed to simply study what they're 'interested in' or 'passionate about'. This is nonsense. I think that much of the stupidity currently on view in the U.S. is related to the unhealthy food supply. The brain is a sensitive part of the body and is being affected by the way we eat. It's not only obvious in the average person, but in our 'leaders' and decision makers, too.
Beyond food consumed, the steady "diet" of propaganda, advertising, conformity & what passes for "thinking" takes its toll on human emotion & cognition.
Excellent discussion about free speech! Now that we are living in the time of global communication available to nearly everyone, it's time to really examine what is in the public/social interest. We've gone far beyond crying "fire" in a crowded theater (the old standard taught in my day) to determine what is detrimental, especially with algorithms & surveillance in use. You guys really did justice to the subject, thank you.
I think Jerry's opinions on sunken British ship is correct. British trying to get rid of their old retired ships that can't even leave their own port to go to the Red Sea. 😅 😂
Dear Jerry, It was a great discussion with very interesting and enlightening content. Harald spoke briefly about the people who were employed by TikTok to check and censor the content: people from low-paying English-speaking countries, like the Philippines. I think there's a scary/horror film about those people and the consequences of their job. DELETER is the title of the film.
Knowing history should have taught us to stop all form of conflicts and wars. Confucius said: “Love thy neighbour as thyself: Do not do to others what thou wouldst not wish be done to thyself: Forgive injuries. Forgive thy enemy, be reconciled to him, give him assistance, invoke God in his behalf.”
Jesus Christ said the same as well but it always amazes me that those who call themselves "Christians" are often those who disregard Him as well and commit the worse of evils against others.
Harald in China is interesting! He needs his own YT channel or needs to be a guest everywhere! I think ive seen him on Angelou's channel once so hint get him on more!!! XD ok now i know who he reminds me of lol the whole show!!! wizard harry potter! the chinese copy obviously! XD
The ongoing conflict between the US-led west and the east has emerged as a significant test of the Western world's assertions of moral superiority. The intense brutality and widespread destruction of the conflict have exposed the complex and contradictory nature of the Western world's claimed moral superiority. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin raised important concerns about the growing ties among Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea. The Concert of Decline is organizing a specifically tailored event for US neoconservatives, who are currently facing various failed policies and challenges. This decline started at the beginning of the century and doesn't seem to be slowing down. The United States' declining status as a global hegemon is affecting its ability to wield both soft and hard power while maintaining its dominance. The Middle East has significantly undermined its credibility, both internationally and domestically. There is a push to destroy all credibility in the Middle East. It is too late to confront them because the US needs the capability and capacity to engage with Russia or China as polarized global power dynamics shift towards them. For their strategic safety, Russia, China, the North, and Iran unite further and possess sufficient capabilities to confront and, in some cases, defeat the US. The only remaining protection for the US is nuclear use, which carries a risk of reciprocity and self-destruction for everyone involved. Gen. Charles Brown concurred with Austin, asserting the interconnectedness of threats from Russia, China, the North, and Iran. Why are they interconnected? Who forces them to be interconnected? Ukraine's defeats are unstoppable. Given the circumstances, it is inevitable that Ukraine will suffer complete defeats shortly. In these four nations, US deterrence has exposed the fact that confronting force is impossible in the current geopolitical reality. China's high-tech industry has experienced consistent growth. China is making significant progress in terms of accelerating its transition from COVID-19 and improving quality. China's economy will continue to move in a positive direction and be ready for long-term expansion. Despite any imprudent US policies, China's peaceful growth will continue without limitations, regardless of the circumstances. In various technological sectors, China's surplus production and exports greatly surpass those of the United States. Its exports to Russia were a threat to the United States' global dominance, as was its hostile engagement with Russia in both military and economic aspects. The US's final defense is the use of nuclear weapons, a strategy that carries the perilous potential for retaliation and extensive destruction. The US should have heeded Austin's observation and warning much earlier, but unfortunately, they are too late to rectify the mistakes. General Charles Brown concurred with Austin, highlighting the interconnectedness of the threats presented by Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran. What is the rationale behind their connection? What compels them to be interconnected? For the US, it is crucial to steer clear of exacerbating tensions with Russia further. Zelensky delivered a strong message to the US-led NATO, emphasizing the importance of recognizing Ukraine's commitment to aligning with American interests. Zelensky highlighted the profound impact with a few words. The US-led NATO cannot overlook the fact that Ukraine has completed the list in a way that aligns with the USA's interests, leading to devastating consequences such as the displacement of 20 million people, the loss of one million lives, and the injuries and disabilities of two million more. This has resulted in a long-term gender imbalance, akin to the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan. The proxy Ukraine conflict highlights the conflict's profound impact, characterized by extreme violence and the tragic loss of countless lives. The economy and industry suffered major destruction and setbacks, leading to significant damage to properties and landfills. To prevent another global conflict, conduct a comprehensive analysis and potentially make adjustments to US foreign policy. The possibility of a delicately poised nuclear war is a significant concern. The United States' foreign policy has the potential to cause catastrophic consequences on a global scale, rivaling a full-scale nuclear war. Because of their alleged involvement in war crimes, Israeli leaders may face arrest warrants from the ICC. Both Republicans and Democrats agree on the importance of taking action in response to potential arrest warrants. This undermines the credibility of the United States globally. It is important to consider the complexities and nuances of Blinken's ill-fated visit and China's reactions. The situation is increasingly worrisome, with a possible threat to China as well. Perhaps the US-led NATO should seek a compromise. The catastrophic events in the Middle East are responsible for the significant damage. The Israel-Gaza conflict is prompting a re-evaluation of the West's perceived moral standing. The outcome will not be pleasurable. When it comes to global politics, the United States stands out as the sole nation whose foreign policy has the potential to escalate into a full-scale nuclear conflict. It is important to consider the complexities and nuances of Blinken's ill-fated visit and China's reactions. The situation is increasingly worrisome, with a possible threat to China as well. Perhaps the US-led NATO should seek a compromise. The outcome will not be pleasurable. When it comes to global politics, the United States stands out as the sole nation whose foreign policy has the potential to escalate into a full-scale nuclear conflict. The world is teetering with far-reaching global consequences that go beyond the borders of China, Russia, and the United States. It is critical to carefully examine and optimize its potential to avoid escalated conflicts. It is of utmost importance to analyze and potentially adjust the United States foreign policy to safeguard against the possibility of a future global conflict. If the US wants to maintain its position of influence, it must make the necessary modifications and adjustments. The only remaining protection for the US is nuclear use, which carries a risk of reciprocity and self-destruction for everyone involved.
There's an assumption in this piece that the US wants to change, they aren't giving any indications of that yet. Some in the Administration appear bound towards the conflict you suggest they should be avoiding - I'm not optimistic about the future as I agree with you, there is only one possibility if the US want's to win this conflict that they are edging towards and that is nuclear escalation. From what I've read in Chinese media, there are ample opportunites for China to destroy their fleets in very short order, if that happens, USA will definitely escalate despite the obvious dangers to the entire world
@@jerrystakeonchina799 To the West: China + Russia + North Korea + Iran = "evil" and "threats" through their own defenses. However, USA + UK + Japan + Germany + Israel + Australia + South Korea + NATO countries = "holy and pure" and are sacrosanct in whatever they do.
was it the suited lawyer that was holding an A4 piece of paper saying not my king? i remember that being big on a few of the youtube channels? but yeah plenty of people plenty of youtube comments have been saying "Not my effing King!" "Not my effing PM!" etc!
Hi Jerry, How best to debunk the latest attack by Western news media that China's emerging clean energy industry to solve climate change issues has been all at the expense of the Uyghur forced labour?
No need to debunk it Colin, the people who make the story up know it's a lie, the people involved in the industry know it's a lie and time will prove it
Seems like Australian politicians have been learning the "double-speak" methodology of the United States. Just reported in the news today (9/5/24), that Chinese "working visa" applications have been quietly withdrawn with no explanation given to their applicants in China. At the same time, the Australian Tourism Board has been running advertisements in China encouraging Chinese visitors to Australia after the volume of Chinese tourists has dropped drastically, causing a big black hole in the Australian Tourism industry over the past years. The U.S. is well-known today for their hypocrisy - their talking with their mouths but doing complete different things with their hands on the other and it looks like their Australian accolades are fast learning how to "follow the master".
I just read that half an hour ago, what a pity - at the moment though, I have two Australian friends attempting to get visas to come to China, one is being refused and he's appealing. the other has only just lodged the app and is waiting to hear
FYI gentlemen, those traditional Chinese garment fastenings, once adopted in Western cultures, became known as "frogs" and "frogging" in English. Why? Sorry, dunno...
Harald points out a very good point of hypocrisy when it comes to free speech in the US. Thank you for this interesting interview.
I'm honoured to be in the same wechat as Harald in China, a brilliant China expert.

@@bertanelson8062 Very true. But healthy minds can resist and ignore these forces. With the weak American population....not so much.

Thanks to Jerry and Harald for the great insights.
The Houthis will go down in history as a nation standing up for humanity
Loyalty is to the people, not to political personalities, as in the case of the west., where charm is admired
Charm & especially wealth/popularity.

Great discussion. So many nuanced and real life governance issues are discussed, it will take a systematic parcing to work through each.
Thank you both for having and sharing the informative discussion🙂👍🙂
