  • Saving seeds is very rewarding, but not all plants make it easy to save the seeds from. For instance Tomato seeds are coated with an anti germination film that needs to be removed. Best way to do that is to ferment the seeds for a period of time to allow that to break down. This while not difficult, is an extra step that does tend to keep most people from saving their own tomato seeds. However Radish seeds could not be easier. Just like saving beans, saving radish seeds are as simple as opening the pod and dumping the seeds out. Basically they grow a seed pod, that you wait till it dries on the plant, then open up the pods and collect your seeds. Just this one radish got me 50+ seeds to grow. That is amazing!
Another benefit to saving radish seeds are the flowers. They are a favorite for pollinators. That radish plant was completely swarmed with bees and small wasps. The best thing about these small wasps are they help bring down the pest population. So definitely make sure at least one or two of your radish plants go to seed because the benefits are more than just saving some seeds. Do it for the pollinators, and the extra seeds for next year is just an extra benefit.
