Some employers will count pets in their bereavement policy - after all, your pets are dependent on you to meet their needs. Unfortunately, this provision isn't written into any legislation.

my company offers it, I have to use it but do they ask for the documentation???
Sometimes they can. You can provide medical document to back your claim. It's always useful.
Is the evidence to be accepted at face value or do HR reps call funeral homes for verification?
It's not right to call funeral homes for verification. It's disrespectful.
