My band opened for them on this tour in Grand Rapids, MI in June '93. Nuno and Gary leaped into each other at the end of Decadence Dance and the headstock on this cherry N4 broke, so Nuno slammed it to the ground and the neck broke off and flew to my feet by his rig at the side of the stage..are you kidding me?? I still have it today with all his finger gunk on the fretboard!! Awesome! Nuno Rules!
Incredible. I've heard so many guitarists with techinique (anyone can get it, with enough practice) but this guy goes so far beyond. I was so surprised when I stumbled upon this video. SO COOL that he was able to let go of the guitar hero bit while jamming with the horn players..shows he is about give and take and MUSIC, which many guitar 'gods' are not. The amazing technical display that follows is mind boggling. I am a new fan. Love the rich sounds from 5:14. Lovely. Unheard from other "gods"
I can't believe John Mayer and Eric Clapton get more recognition than Nuno.. He can play circles around those guys, in both technique and feeling! What an injustice.. I wish the guitar magazines would at least get on the ball and start doing more interviews and lessons with him...
This 7 minutes and 50 seconds destroys completely the layman myth that distorted guitars occur only in metal and rock music which they cannot understand in a musical context. When I first heard Pronograffitti and was thinking "Damn! You can do that with a guitar?" I thought it was either chords or fast notes! Make my regular Nuno please! :D
The song is called "Bumblebee Crash Landing". It appeared on a compilation called "Guitars that Rule the World" that was released in the early 90's. Actually it was suppose to be on right after Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee, but the producer thought it would have been too long of a track at that point.
I am not an expert on guitar heroes, haven't heard them all...there are so many who are impressive. Why I commented on this one was that I felt (sorry if you didn't, to each his own) not just harmonic richness but emotional richness in his playing...though it was his chance to show off, I still felt a lot of soul and beauty. I love the chord progression at 5:14 (borrowed from classical piece?) and the sound he put out, not the technique but the feel. To each his own! And Jennifer B. is awesome!
A little while ago I would have shared this view. But I figured there must be more to this guy so I bought "Giant Robot" last week and it really is very good. Very few solos and just catchey well-constructed songs. Really nice work with talk boxes, phasers and a whole load of tricks, but little shred. I highly recommend this record to anyone who thinks buckethead is nothing but licks.
@azasel I'm pretty sure it's called "The Bumble Bee has Landed" ... and I think it was on one of the old "Guitars that Rule The World" CD compilations.
i was there man this was long time ago, i can still remember that intro, it was awesome, i wonder where nuno learned to play, or how he did cause at the age of 22 he already was a guitar master
@nataliefoxx exactly! Actually Nuno is such a well-rounded player.... honestly I think that a major reason he has been ignored is because he has been tanted by the reputation of Cherone... And I have to admit, I don't care for Cherone's vocals much myself...seems like a good guy though. But I think Nuno's guitar work has been largely ignored because Extreme was dismissed as another lame hair band hold-over from the 80's.. but in actuality, Nuno is one of the best electric guitarists ever.
I think this really sums up all that was bad about the 90's 'look at me, super fast, untouchable magic man, with a huge huge head. :-) Nuno Bettencourt is massively talented which unfortunately match his massively nut..... a much nice man these days.
I have the guitars that rule the world cd and to much of a good thing is`nt on it the Nuno track is Bumble bee (crash landing) I also have the track too much of a good thing and was wondering were it came from could you fill me in .
are u kidding me? eddie was the original inventor of the guitar hero playing that steve vai and nuno uses nowadays. but nuno is also a great guitar player.
what escales is nuno using nuno i know he is running within some pentatonics some minor escales, but i dont know like the sequences! can anybody help me with that, i am talking aobut the first part (tapping) of this solo! thank you i will appreciated!
@coltsuperocean10 I know.. You should see how furious the Clapton people get when i comment on his video that he is overrated. I need some back up over there... check out the blog discussion on the RUclips video called "Cream - Eric Clapton at his Best!!" It drives me nuts..they consider Clapton a 'guitar god' while players like NB get ignored.
alright thats good and all but of all the video's Ive seen of him so far he has played that same exact thing. Please tell me there is more to this guy than that one tapping solo he does.
ok Sireel, which musicians do you like then? When I say musicans, I mean someone who actually plays an instrument. So i don't want to hear any names like Jessica Simpson or young ms Spears....if you knew anything about music and musicians you would also know that Nuno is a fantastic musician, producer and writer and happens to be much admired by the likes of Steve Lukather. Which really is saying something. So come on then show us a video that you find impressive then....
Acctually, Brian May, Michael Schenker, and Alex Lifeson did it before Eddie so I guess they are better than Eddie too, according to your logic. Eddie is good but he's a one trick pony.
ok sireel its the worst music you ever heard? what prompted you to watch it then? Its not like the video just popped up out of nowhere and forced you to watch it
I think Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears are genius compared to Nuno Dumbencourt and Steve Lukather hasn't played anything good in 20 years so that ends that point. Listen to Zappa, XTC, Danny Gatton, Lenny Breau, Django, Chick, Waits, Bad Brains, ...that should keep you busy for a while. Nuno talent is a waste because his songs/lyrics are so dumb. Listen to Extreme and that should be enough of an example.ZAPPA RULES!!!
why is he so underrated? he's truly one of the most innovative nd original guitar players ever.
My band opened for them on this tour in Grand Rapids, MI in June '93. He'll be dead & gone before the masses truly appreciate his contribution to guitar playing.
Incredible. I've heard so many guitarists with techinique (anyone can get it, with enough practice) but this guy goes so far beyond. I was so surprised when I stumbled upon this video. my face was caving in while watching. I think Nuno can actually impregnate any girl just listening to his hellish riffs!!!
That part after bubblebee is so awesome it should have been put into a song

hes too great for this world
he can shred...he can get a funky simple tone
ha can get a neoclasical sound with too much feeling....
hes just the man!
I have this concert on VHS, truly amazing...The real action starts at 2:08
Nuno is the man!
So freakin badazz. Greatest guitar player ever.
Amazing, its official Nuno has became one of my favorites... rhythm, technique and emotion.

That´s why he is my master.
Nuno Bettencourt is a God
I love this whole thing. Nunoooo. Let's all watch Guitar Wars, such a sick DVD.
Nuno the best. Even today 2014.
Maybe in 2020 😊
2021?
This is great. You know, when I want style + shred I always look at two guitarists: Nuno Betancourt and Vernon Reid. I love both of them.
I am not an expert on guitar heroes, haven't heard them all...there are so many who are impressive. Nicely put good sir (kps142).
Buckethead needs a new bucket..and then a new head!! Nuno is the most underestimated riper out there!!
He played the exact same solo live in Brazil in 83 haha
@azasel That's the flight of the wounded bumblebee "crash landing"
I think this really sums up all that was bad about the 90's 'look at me, super fast, untouchable magic man, with a huge huge head. :-) Nuno Bettencourt is massively talented which unfortunately match his massively nut..... a much nice man these days.
@wfenio
I totally agree with you! .. Another great comment :D
4:08 = Pokemon battle Start.
Epic solo, fucking mindtravel!
Can anyone name the song he starts playin at 6:45?? I'm sure I've heard that song before. I would highly appriciate if anyone can name it.
2:05 is awesome
I have the guitars that rule the world cd and to much of a good thing is`nt on it the Nuno track is Bumble bee (crash landing) I also have the track too much of a good thing and was wondering were it came from could you fill me in .

are u kidding me? eddie was the original inventor of the guitar hero playing that steve vai and nuno uses nowadays. but nuno is also a great guitar player.
it was like watching nuno make love to his guitar
@zoddman1 amen brotha!!
you speak truth..
what escales is nuno using nuno i know he is running within some pentatonics some minor escales, but i dont know like the sequences! can anybody help me with that, i am talking aobut the first part (tapping) of this solo! thank you i will appreciated!

That's Mike Mangini.
he's 100% self taught.
Sorry, my brother made that comment. He's just getting into Extreme.
alright thats good and all but of all the video's Ive seen of him so far he has played that same exact thing. Please tell me there is more to this guy than that one tapping solo he does.

He's better than Eddie in my opinion. He's much more versatile.
Nuno is a fantastic musician, i think Eddie van halen is still better today tho, but nuno isnt far behind.
wow, heman women hater intro. sweet. nuno is the most underrated guitarist. too bad he served me at McDonalds last week.
Acctually, Brian May, Michael Schenker, and Alex Lifeson did it before Eddie so I guess they are better than Eddie too, according to your logic. Eddie is good but he's a one trick pony.
ok sireel its the worst music you ever heard? what prompted you to watch it then? Its not like the video just popped up out of nowhere and forced you to watch it
Buckethead is NOT BETTER
