Hi I got it as gift. After it died off I managed to replant and now I have got lovely long leaves. Now we going into winter. Do I keep indoors? How do get beautiful flowers. Thank you lots of love from South Africa. 👏👏🌹🌹
Tyler, I have accumulated 6 amaryllis bulbs. Th bulbs that flowered last year, didn’t bloom this year, so I’ll be following your instructions to hopefully get good rebooking next year. Here are my questions I hope you can help me with. 1. I’d like to repot all of my bulbs into heavier pots (similar to yours). When can I repot these bulbs in fresh soil? Is regular potting soil (like Miracle-Grow) alright to use? 2. I live in eastern NC in a ranch style home, so no basement. For the dormancy period, would placing them under the crawl space be sufficient? Thank you for helping me with this. I love these flowers!
Don’t stress too much that they didn’t flower this year. You can store them in a shoebox in a cupboard or in the garage. It’s a good idea to allow them to grow foliage to restore the bulb prior to dormancy. That being said you can store the bulbs with or without the soil mix and pot. I like to use a well draining soil mix. I give advice on that in my latest YT video (13 varieties one). Hope this helps, let me know!! ❤️
I'm in Minnesota, My blubs have been in the garden all summer, they green leaves. How do I bring them in this fall. I have a area where they get there cold treatment. Thanks
You can bring them in at the end of the month, store them in a dry, cool and dark spot. If you choose to cut back the leaves, make sure you find a way to label any differences, or varieties you may have. Hope this helps!
I got one last year November 22. Bloomed for December and now the leaves are not standing and falling down. I just want to cut it. Is it okay to put in dormancy now in July. It’s looks ugly with the leaves that fell down
I’ve had my bulb for about two or three years now, and it’s grown leaves but never a flower stalk. I’m not sure how to care for it at this point, am I doing something wrong that it’s not growing flowers??
How long does it take from bulb to blooming?I'm planting it for the first time. Also i'm from Suriname (south america) where the climate is tropic here.
Wow. Ok so , my three massive Jumbo Minerva Amaryllis bulbs have been happily growing and maintaining huge long beautiful leaves since last Christmas! I had trimmed the flower stalks down after blooming, but I did not realize I had to force the dormancy period... So should I even bother to shove them into dark cold hibernation at this point (Dec 6th)?? I dont mind a late bloom, or even waiting till next year, but I just dont want to harm the plant. Also, how cold can the bulbs tolerate ? Im in zone 7. Thanks for your very informative video!
@@TylerMossop OK! Ill try it... is it the darkness or the coldness that is most important for dormancy? My unheated attic is dark and also probably below 50 degrees.. is that ok?
My blooms just finished, I haven't cut them back b/c it looks like they self-pollinated and have seed pods, which is fine. My question is, the pot now has 2 sets of leaves growing on the side, like several inches away from the bulb...can they randomly shoot leaves out of the sides or bottoms??
@@TylerMossop Oh yay! Now I'll have to research how to deal with that. The original bulb really needs a new pot anyway so once the seed pods are done I'll figure out repotting! 🙂🙂🙂
I got my amaryllis last year for Christmas it was supposed to only bloom once but I wanted to keep it so I took the wax off the bulb and planted it, I’ve kept it on my fire place where there is not direct sunlight, and I water it once a week, but since then it has had crazy growth in the leaves, so much so that the leaves grow over 3 feet tall and is too heavy for itself even when i try to stabilize it, and they fall and turn yellow, I’ve cut them and they’ve grown back even bigger and heavier! It’s August now, should I put it in its dormant stage? I just don’t want it to die.
I have a amaryllis and the flower looked like it was rooting at the stem b4 it was able to fully bloom. Does that mean I could cut it at the stem and wait for it to grow again?

Hey, I need information on what to do with them in Florida. I bought them in December and a few of them were just blooming or bloomed a week later. I keep reading and watching about what to do with the bulbs and putting them in your basement, we ain't got basements in Florida and we're lucky if outside goes down to 50 degrees. I thought the leaves would have died off after blooming, but they just keep growing and the leaves are huge. It's March now and I am not sure what I need to do for them to flower again this year. I can't find any information for Florida. And yes they have been outside all winter and the leaves are dark green and very healthy, do I need to cut them back? is it too late? what do I need to do. Thank you in advance.
Michael, you’re fine until the end of summer. Continue to make sure they are getting enough light and water - sounds like they are doing great! The bulbs need to plump up again which they are doing now. When September rolls around find a dark cool place to keep them. Years ago I was in a similar situation and actually kept my amaryllis bulb under the sink in a box 🤦🏽♂️ - so you’ll be fine!!

Fabrizio, you want to use 2 parts ( something that rich in organic material) good potting mix to 1 part (somethign gritty) perlite or a gritty succulent mix. You can use relative small pots for these, so you don't need a ton.
Ok if I am on a budget I have some unused soil that I've collected from different plants I had, they are mostly from ferns and a palm I had. Its moist, light and also sort of sandy?
@@fabriziodelgado7442 The problem with using soil that is from other plants, is that it may be nutrient poor.
