Merry (early) Christmas and Happy Holidays!! Things are getting a bit busier here, so this will probably be my last video for the year. Thank you all so much for the support and I'll catch ya on the next one, see ya!!
Very good job, exactly what I wanted to see! As a little game dev perspective, I'd like to offer a view of their motivation: these are generally talented people with a vision, but terrible businessmen and designers. They try to earn money through NFTs to make genuine games, which are listed as their simultaneous projects on their website, which to me speaks that the projects are on pause until money arrives. Unfortunately, investors are way too different between profiles and industries, and web3 folk expects exponential growth of Axie Infinity from any project they lose money on (same with other out-of-field investors, like pharmaceutical, sports, oil and other fast ROI shit)
Imagine if they had that mythical third brain cell and used it to realize the nft thing is just losing them sales, and that they’d probably earn more just by making a real game.
3:56 Ah, that's why, as I was sure I had played some pretty decent Blowfish published games in the past. Them being bought out a few years ago to focus on NFTs and Blockchain completely explains the massive shift. They aren't the same company anymore.
I just don't get where all that money goes. Hard to make even a game that has some competence like this not feel like a grift still. Glad I found your channel btw! Have a good holiday break
Thank you, and to you as well! As for the money, I would LIKE to think they are putting it into the game... but I have a feeling, that's not the case. The pessimist in me just sees them pocketing the majority of it and using the minimum amount to push out a "product", then take a loooong time with development so that people forget about it, and then just disappear with the money.
Only somewhat plausible reason I have seen for NFT in games would be that the attached items could be used across multiple games, including ones that have not released yet. However not even once have I seen any NFT game developer actually implement this (even if they promised the feature), also I do believe this could be achieved in a different way, without NFTs.
The bare minimum would be to have NFTs not lock out any form of progression. Tbh, I don't know HOW NFTs can enhance a game, but I'm willing to be surprised. If it's just cosmetic, I could maybe... not be too bothered by them, but then I'll just question "Why NFTs?". Games like TF2 have existed for a long time and don't need to use the blockchain or crypto for their cosmetics. Long story short... I just wouldn't make a game with NFTs to begin with. Sorry if this isn't a good answer, I'm not exactly a game dev. It's just as I, a consumer, don't see the benefits of NFTs in video games.
Am not fan of NFTs either. Aeons explanation and comparison to TF/cs2 skin market already explains why it lacks purpose. This being said Eve Online is developing an nft/blockchain game and i feel like that company might have best chance to make it work. The basegame already paylocks you out of content (limits ships you can use.. i believe also along the skills your character is allowed to learn)... so if their crypto game does same it kinda isn't worse than their current game does. Also Eve being mostly economy excel sheet game already makes the crypto to align with the gameplay a lot smoother than these other nft games often have been able to achieve. Eve devs have a lot of failed game projects in their backlog tho and eve online is their only successful game... and they are trying to make at least 2 games at once along with running their flagship (one game is this crypto one where we don't even know the genre or gameplay loop... the other one is first person extraction shooter that somehow has economy links to main eve online game but we don't know details what exactly is the interaction and how impactful it is for either game... it might be just transferring resources from one game to another or maybe eve online clans can equip whole armies worth in shooter..). I might play that shooter if it is f2p friendly. I most probably will avoid the cryptogame unless they allow f2p have meaningful progression and they use virtual confirmations instead of demanding high energy consumption thru mining factories worth of cpus and/or gpus.
Oh interesting. I read some of the reviews, seems like it's an incredibly short walking-sim based on a book (?). Other than that, no idea on the actual game itself.
This is sad. This looks like a it could have some success If they just made a normal roguelike. But the nfts, lootboxes and pay to progress takes almost all the fun out of gameplay loop. No rewards for killing bosses and no upgrades means no motivation to keep playing for most players. And without returning players all the crypto and nft stuff will be worthless in a few months or even weeks.
ugh... the game could literally be as good as something like hades and any gamer looking at it would just go and buy hades instead. It offers nothing, why play this when you can play thousands of rogue likes that don't require you to spend money on loot boxes so your runs are different... the whole point of a rogue like is getting different abilities/passives etc on different runs as well as changing levels, this game is a 'rogue like' that offers neither of those two. well it offers one... outside of the game... this is just confusing to me tbh it's like they don't actually understand what a rogue like is and just heard about it...
@ i get it XD it is def one of the best looking nft games i've seen, it's just that none of these web 3 developers have any idea how to have nfts that make a game better instead of worse. I don't think anyone does...
Definitely the most competent looking NFT game I've seen Also your videos are great. I found you about a month ago and I'm been enjoying everyone you've made ( ╹▽╹ )

You and Jauwn should Collab at some point, you both are doing God's work with documenting and cataloguing these atrocities

If they wanted JPEGs to speculate on, they could've easily just yeeted money at a real artist or somethin
I'm sure any skilled artist would not work for them. Too many had been fucked by these grifters.
This game's better quality makes me sad...
Same... assuming this game isn't an elaborate grift, it's upsetting that NFTs have ruined it.
Imagine if they had that mythical third brain cell and used it to realize the nft thing is just losing them sales, and that they’d probably earn more just by making a real game.

You know now that you mention it, those games were from before the buyout. Interesting.
@@AeonDerpYTBlowfish were the guys who made To the Stars, which was an excellent game.
It's a tragedy to see them get turned into this.
I just don't get where all that money goes. Hard to make even a game that has some competence like this not feel like a grift still. Glad I found your channel btw! Have a good holiday break

Exactly my thoughts.
finally jauwn can have somebody else online on these games
A game that allows you to buy more RAM. Just what my pc needed.
this is somehow more depressing than the other ones because you can sorta tell there was atleast some passion put into it
The art style for the initial intro cutscene looks…familiar… **a duck quack in the deep recesses of my mind**
Buying RAM on the Internet is a scam, you say? It's just trying to be accurate to real life!
everything is colorful, even enemies
so good luck figuring out wtf you even looking at
Yeah, the clutter and coloring was an issue.
Aeon mentions Aminoca
Maxine: Oh noes!
Hades at home:
fuck it, good enough
welcome back jauwn
LOL! Tbh I'm also waiting for Jauwn's next vids haha!
Deep in the game
Onwards to 1k subs before the new year!
Have a sub, merry xmas and new year bro. keep up the grind
1 question; what NFt game will make a good NFt game? How would YOU make a NFT game?
I like your video’s by the way!

I played blowfishes "Storm Boy" game. It's awful. The "mostly positive" is baffling.
Oh interesting. I read some of the reviews, seems like it's an incredibly short walking-sim based on a book (?). Other than that, no idea on the actual game itself.
After all of these years I still don't understand what NFTs are. Does anyone know of a video or article that explains them in a simple manner?
This is sad. This looks like a it could have some success If they just made a normal roguelike. But the nfts, lootboxes and pay to progress takes almost all the fun out of gameplay loop.

Howdy

I really WANT to believe they set out to make a decent game... but their inclusion of NFTs and balancing around it absolutely ruin it.
