- I took the Elektron Machinedrum with the unofficial X.04 firmware for a short spin. Trying out the new TONAL settings and GND machines for some italo/chiptune/house-something...
This is a Machinedrum UW version, but it was upgraded from a non-UW so the display is the old one...
This inspired me to install X.04 finally and wow... blown away by the polyphony, unison, and chromatic tuning capabilities.
Great!
Oh my gosh, this shows off the capabilities of the new firmware so well.
Great that you liked it!
Absolute fire.

I want this so bad...
Great!!’ How do you upgrade your non uw to the uw?!! Is that possible?
Thanks! Elektron sold an upgrade kit some years ago, but don’t think that is available anymore.
🕺🌐🕺🏽
Please enlighten me on where to update my MD please!
This tickled some Megaman/FFX parts of my brain, great work!
Thank you! You can get it on the Elektronauts forum if you search the posts on X.04
Dope jam! Do you know if this os works with the non uw mk 1?
Thanks! No it seems to be UW only.
This OS works on all versions of MD
How were you able to get chords out of the Machinedrum?
Please tell me 🙏🏾
It is a feature of the (unofficial) X.04 firmware that was used in this video.
Curious about how you did input all the notes. By hand ?
Yup, placed grid rec trigs and then twiddled the PTC1, 2, 3, 4 manually to set the right notes on every beat. Great fun! :)
Did you upgrade with the +drive? Any idea where i could find one?
Yes, it was converted to a UW with +Drive by Elektron. But that upgrade is not sold anymore.
I'd love to know what machines you used for each part - this is incredible!
Sure, here goes:
01: TRX-B2 (four on the floor kick)
02: TRX-SD (snare)
03: TRX-S2 (house fills snare)
04: ROM31 (”cmon”)
05: E12-CC (crash)
06: E12-CP (claps)
07: TRX-RS (rimshot hits)
08: TRX-SD (end of pattern fill snare)
09: TRX-CH (closed hihat, lots of p-locks, kills 10)
10: TRX-OH (open hihat)
11: TRC-CY (ride)
12: GND-PU TONAL (melody 1)
13: GND-SW TONAL (bassline)
14: GND-SW TONAL (three-note chords and melody)
15: GND-PU TONAL (melody 2)
16: GND-SN TONAL (melody 3 and four-note chords)
@@tubesockor Thanks! This is very inspiring. I just picked up a used UWmkII and am so excited to get back into using it. I had an original SPS1-mkII a decade ago and always regretted selling it!
Have fun! :)
may I ask how you were able to upgrade to UW?
Some years ago, Elektron had an SPS-1 MKII to SPS-1UW+ MKII upgrade program.
@@tubesockor seriously 😕 ... thanks if u ever remember the name it would mean the world to me
@@carlosjroldan1953 The upgrade hasn't been available for many years now.
