I was introduced to this piece several years ago, actually playing in a concert band in an arrangement, while the solo part was taken by the unversity's horn professor at the end of his final year before retirement. It's a charming, obscure little gem! I've always been intrigued by the piece's form, taking sonata form and stretching it across three movements. I can't think of any other piece that does that.
