RIP Pernell I loved him as a fighter he was a left handed southpaw he was very fast and busy and great on defense avoiding punches like Roy Jones and Mayweather , Pernell like these other guys was a defense master and great fighter. So sorry hes gone he was a great fighter and a legend and hes was not that big or tall.
Boxers look so similar. For some reason they have the boxing face. I see Crawford, Hopkins, and Frazier when I see him. But he is the man I always compare Terrence Crawford to. Sweet Pea was one of my favorite fighters

Sad. Pernell sounds really damaged. In the ring he was so elusive but I guess , as with Wilfredo 'Radar' Benitez, he learnt to avoid punches in the ring by taking plenty in sparring.

Honestly Pernell was the most complete fighter I've ever seen he's one of the only fighters that could in my mind defeat a prime Duran, who was the best fighter at lightweight since Armstrong who was way before my time. If Pernell had stayed at lightweight there is no telling how long he would have been Champ. Only thing to beat him would have been his lifestyle. Talent wise he's top 10 All-time pound for pound

His family member made a statement on RUclips I saw last week (I think it had something to do with being little “sweet pea”); sorry I missed the mark but I am studying champ and expect to find that video again soon.

It was supposed to be "Sweet Pete" but the reporter misunderstood and misspelled it as Sweet Pea, actually. Alot of people don't know this.
