- Mushroom macro photography
When shooting images I want to tell a story, I want things to happen within the frame. At the same time the frame should not be cluttered but neither should it be too empty. The primary focus should be on the mushroom or mushrooms, while the surrounding elements contribute to the overall storytelling. A good composition is key in creating good images. I take my time to find or even to construct a composition, by incorporating multiple layers, supporting elements, and a dreamy painterly background.

Excellent series. Something worth mentioning is that there are health concerns when working in these environments. I was recently diagnosed with Blastomycosis. A potentially fatal fungal disease. One local woman died from it, but many can naturally fight it off. I caught it when working in the wetlands around here (NW Wisconsin) and I might have had a cut on my hand that allowed it to enter but possibly entered by breathing in the spores. The cure is long-term, several years and the only medicine I can take is costly; $100,000 a year. But my insurance covers most of it. Wear gloves and wash them often. If symptoms appear, do not wait to see a Doctor. Get in early.
