  • Autumn is Mushroom time in the Forest and some of them reveal their full beauty when they start to glow and shine. But because they don't do always do that, we have to help and assist a bit.
    in this video I will guide you through the entire process of photographing the images we need and the full editing and post processing workflow in #Lightroom and #Photoshop.

    WOW, this was a fantastic tutorial ... loved how you showed from start to finish and explained why you were doing the steps and shots like you did. VERY helpful, very informative. I had tried this illusion prior to watching this and they turned out 'good', but now, I with your tutorial, I think I will be able to get great photos. Thanks! Your pace, your instructions and explanations were spot on. Often, when I watch videos, the videos are filled with all kinds of 'fluff' and I need to watch at 1.25 or 1.5 and skip forward, didn't have to do any of that with yours. Thanks again.

    A great tutorial, I couldn't wait to try it. I don't have a macro lens and the only mushroom I found was a bit to old for light to shine through so I had to illuminate it from below. My light was too white and I had a lousy composition so had to 'move' my mushroom to a dead branch in PS. I photographed the same mushroom from 2 sides to duplicate it. It was a lot of post processing work which, with better planning, I could have done in camera, but I'm reasonably pleased with my first attempt.

      @@OliverHerbold Gosh! That's hard as they are all great. I always ask myself, if I was going to buy one which would it be? This tends to concentrate the mind more. I think 17.48 is lovely and almost alien. 17.52 is beautiful and looks like a little light is inside, second place and very nearly my favourite. 17.35 is a wonderful and interesting group of mushrooms, but, my favourite must be the stunning 17.43 which is so sharp and illuminated with darkened backdrop, which is the purpose here, and the insect also gives it even more interest. Stunning! Just my opinion but the next person will have their favourite which will be different, as you know. Thanks Oliver. 👌

    That is awesome. Really very impressive. I am definitely going to follow this technique. We do have actual bioluminecent mushrooms in my area, but they are very hard to find. I do enjoy taking pictures of all kinds of fungi though.

    Wonderful tutorial Oliver, having just bought a macro lens I’m itching to have a go at creating something similar - just need to find some mushrooms now, but I guess I might have to wait until late Summer/Autumn for that 🤔 keep up the good work, your tutorials are always clear and informative 👍

      Congratulations to the addition in your lens collection Martin. You will soon find out that it proves good fun for us Landscapers and it will open totally new views to all sort of things.
      Mushrooms are hard to find this time of the year - but when they are out again, try colour gels for the lighting... ;)

    Super tutorial! I just didn't quite understand one thing: At the beginning, you use focus stacking to achieve a perfectly sharp scene from front to back. But then, when taking "illuminated" shots, you shoot at the same aperture but only with a single focus. When stacking the layers in Photoshop, these "illuminated" layers are blended together in "normal" mode, which means that besides the desired "illumination" in the masked area, they can also be blurred because the flashlight was focused only at one distance. So, I think for even sharper results, series of "illuminated" shots should be taken during focus stacking, always before refocusing on the next distance.

    • @marclavoie3808
      @marclavoie3808 2 месяца назад

      I thought the same. You would want to take the illuminated frames at the different stack depths.

    Excellent work! I think I'm going to give this a try myself. One thing am curious about. You show the focal stacking at the beginning. Do you focal stack each "lit" example as well? Or do you refocus on the just the lighted mushroom and keep moving that around?

      Because I don't have time to dance on every wedding, I am not active on 500px and Flickr anymore. Maybe there will be a come back one day...
