What Happens To The Influencers After We Forget About Them?

  • There has been an onslaught of "quitting RUclips" videos ever since Tom Scott's video came out. Are these all copycats? or has this been brewing for a long time...
    What happens to creators when they quit on their own terms vs. when they lose their fame and can't hang on to attention?
    In this video we talk about topics about RUclipsrs that do a good job at saving their income and earning enough to live comfortably with an early retirement. Others, are not so lucky. This is one of the more important, but least spoken about areas of the creator economy.
    But theres also the question of what happens to a person's mental health. Fame is a concept that the human mind has not evolved yet to be able to handle. How do we handle fame? Is a common question... But How do we handle when we no longer have fame?
    We're living in a world where anyone and everyone is becoming famous. The creator economy is building careers for so many young people, learning how to gain their voice. What does fame even mean anymore? When everyone is famous... is anyone actually?

    Wow guys, we just shattered a world record for me: 60 views in the first HOUR - are you kidding me!!?! last week was my previous best - 15 views in the first hour, and that ended up getting 100 views in the first day. That made me SO ecstatic, and we're soaring past that here. Can you help me spread this to more people by liking it? I'm also curious: What compelled you to click on THIS video in particular? Was it the title, thumbnail, or simply enjoying the previous videos so much that the title/thumbnail didn't matter to you?

    • @PacificNorthBex
      @PacificNorthBex 8 месяцев назад +3

      I personally liked the title and thought it would be a social commentary about RUclips Fame, so that's what made me click. I also had seen a few of your other videos and love the quality of them! they are direct and thought-provoking and also beautifully made. keep up the good work! 😊

      I kinda followed the regular pattern of seeing you in my recommended videos, subbing, then watching this from my sub box. Then again, you might've been blessed by the algorithm, given the topic and all the popular faces!

    this was a very interesting and thought-provoking video! I used to make videos in like the 2009-2012 era just for fun and it was a much more wholesome time on RUclips even then. I ended up getting rid of that channel several years later and now can't imagine doing it again... the weight of being perceived by too many people causes me anxiety LOL. In fact, this year I ended up finally getting off of all social media altogether. I've fallen back in love with reading and have visited my local library all year. Being off social media eliminates those parasocial relationships we have with our friends, and it's forced me to connect with my friends in other ways and now when I see or talk to them, I can actually find out new things that are going on with them instead of just passively observing it on the socials updates. I found you from your library video, where I instantly recognized my old library card from BCLS haha; it was a pleasant surprise to find a creator from my home county!

    • @NomadOverNormal
      @NomadOverNormal  8 месяцев назад +1

      "instead of passively observing" that's a great line. The best part is you were able to use something empowering like discovering reading to help you wane off of what might have been a type of dopamine addiction in social media!

      @PacificNorthBex 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@NomadOverNormal absolutely, I was for sure addicted to the endless scroll! Escaping that gave me back so much more mental and physical energy that I wasn't even aware that I had lost. It wasn't until I gave it up entirely, that I realized just how profoundly it was affecting me. The book "Bored and Brilliant" by Manoush Zomorodi really inspired me to make change, and walked me through some simple steps that helped start the process. I used to be such a voracious reader when I was younger, and getting back to that has filled my time so much better and allowed me to find my creativity again. 😊

    Great content, man. I spent a few years grinding RUclips as a gaming channel and i loved it for the time i did it. But i stopped after finishing college. It was amazing to get some sponsors and adsense revenue, and my son loved that I had 10K subs. But, like you say in your video everyone has an end time for this. I subscribed.

    so many good points in this 👏 in any profession, lifestyle creep can become a real issue, but especially in the creator economy which can be highly volatile and unstable. glad you touched on diversification as well, that aspect is so important. keep up the amazing work ✨

    Nice one :) Especially the maturity part. You will out grow everything in your life eventually. And that's a good thing! Life itself is constant change and the ability to take people with you through this process instead of trying to freeze you and your audience in time is the far better take.

    For what is worth, if you want to succeed with this channel (even for a short time 😉), you need to post more often and consistently. Your content, presentation and editing is outstanding. People like to know you’re going to post every other Tuesday (or whatever schedule you pick). They then look forward to each post and your numbers increase, if you continue to connect.

    Not gonna lie, as a public advocate I think I can sorta relate with a washed up RUclipsr. Every now and again I get recognized in my town as the guy from the newspaper or Facebook criticizing the local sheriff, city council, or as the guy that took down the congressional rep for corruption.
    Then I'm low key common in the Linux RUclips community as well.

    If I was a creator, I would give no fu**s about my relevance or reputation. Id focus on my content and whether it provides value to myself and those around me. To think one can hold on to external things such as relevance, money and popularity is like wishing the toothfairy existed. To want relevance is to not be at peace with yourself and the reality that you’re not important in the grand scheme of things. You are nobody. 200 years from now 99.99999% of the population won’t even know who Beyoncé is, 500 years from now no one will care to.
