    Great basic principles, very useful to start with. Love the fact you bring that we normally take care of the “cleaning” on the low end on some of the tracks, but we don’t check the MIDs for these also (specially on those 200-500Hz). They also build up too easy if we don’t take care of them in the mix, don't wait for the mastering to correct this...

    1. EQ according to role: leave low frequencies for kick & bass. Guitar/piano: Remove conflicting mids and mid bass. Vocal: Boost highs
    2. Compress & Level to balance volumes & dynamic ranges

    Fantastic, Sean. Great principles and info, including the technical and artistic aspects of mixing. Just the one principle alone of how boosting everything or compressing everything will give LESS space and separation. Thanks so much - look forward to next part(s).

    I think that anything pop or hip hop is considerably easier to create separation because there is so much "air" and space in the songs. But what I think a lot of people would love to see is how separation is created in mixes that have a lot of sonic informatin, where the wave form is more condensed, such as anything with an abundance of sustained guitar or keyboards, long notes battling for space with vocals in the mix.
    Hip hop, pop music and most modern music like the track selected in this video jare way easier to mix than a much busier tempos with much more sonic activity.

    • @kensmechanicalaffair
      @kensmechanicalaffair 2 года назад

      That's 95% of the tutorials on youtube, the music i create and listen to is usually sonically dense. Like a wall of sound.

    Thx again Sean. Your videos have helped this budding producer tremendously. I don’t know if my eyes are deceiving me, but it looks as though u have plugins loaded on the actual track. I’ve heard that ideally u want the affects to be placed on the bus and not the track itself. Can u briefly speak to this? Is it okay to have fx n plugins on actually track vs sending to a bus?

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  2 года назад +1

      Generally speaking, if the track is being processed exclusively (meaning it’s the only track needing that specific FX), insert on the actual track. If you have multiple tracks i.e. vocals that can be processed with the same chain, use a bus / aux to conserve CPU resources and get a more cohesive sound.

    Thank you for the lesson. But by boosting the highs of your vocal doesn't it take away the crisp on your cymbals or white noise? I have to boost a lot of highs in my cymbals or white noise to get the impact that I want, a lot of my tracks are fighting for that high end.

    yo Sean quick question: how are you running all those instances of auto tune on different channels without
    the cpu overloading?
    thank you for all the insight
    -Great Combo

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  5 лет назад

      nailed it! It also helps to utilize aux tracks for the rest of the vocal chain, as we talk about on the channel - that way the only insert on the vocal tracks is the pitch correction, which the newer plugins aren't too heavy on the cpu

    Ironc, there are more shootings then ever before, more homeless, more white collar and black collar crime.
