Watching Ray go through this and get stuck on Team Rocket for literal hours and then not be able to beat the Elite Four by any means has convinced me Game Freak never playtested their rental Pokemon idea. Even picking teams not at random, it feels like the luck needed to beat this with their shitty presets is unreal.
They wanted you to buy the portable game, get your own guys, buy the link cable, and just generally be fully "into" the franchise. It was not an accident.
Yeah no they wanted you to buy the other games. This wouldn't fly today, Battle Revolution did the same thing and was grilled for it.
Well gamefreak encourage you to use your own mon, that's why the rental ones are so bad
@@xXxNECROMONGERxXx The Transfer Pak you mean? Also shout outs to these games having their own separate PC boxes to store your Pokemon, to where you did your own version of New Game Plus, before Pokebank was a thing.
Yup it's funny seeing how the lower evo stages have great moves but obviously not great stats while the fully evolved are like "everything is either inaccurate or weak" but great stats... they *designed* them to be that way and I have no idea why..

That high roll into low roll against Miltank was tragic. I felt that in my soul
If you mean the Earthquakes from Rhyhorn, it wasn't a high and low roll, the first one was a crit.
Stadium 2 does a thing where the enemy trainers will comment about the crit, instead of the game saying critical hit
Nothing can beat the moment when Ray started playing "Baka Mitai" when psyduck fainted.

The funny thing is, is that whenever ray says "please miss" then the attack hits, the moment it hits, an add pops up. Hahahah

7:22 Ryhorn's Earthquake was a Crit which delt 108 damage.
Crits in Gen 2 is x2 Damage, so it would have done 54 damage.
Then the next attack Ryhorn did, only delt 59 damage which was most likely its highroll damage. Whitney never said it was a critical hit so Ray most likely though that the first hit was its normal damage output.

I just watched the highlights for PS1R yesterday, this couldn't be better timed!
It is kind of crazy how the rental pokemon are never allowed to have both good stats and good moves. Like, I always thought it was like that, but then seeing Houndoom with Ember and Bite while Houndour gets Flamethrower, Sunny Day, and Crunch, it just kind of made it sink in.
Gotta make those kids buy more games I guess.

I really think the devs of this game just slapped a bunch of moves on the Pokemon for the rentals and thought "Yeah, this seems right." And then created the hardest opponents since the first one.
It's insane that the last gauntlet seems UTTERLY impossible. A person needs STUPID AMOUNT OF LUCK to completely beat it even if one sets up a much proper team.
That's what happens when you need to make your game more appealing to buy than rent, if it were easier so many more people would have rented a copy for a week to get all of the gift pokemon and items for their handheld game and then never have to touch the N64 game again. It's also a bonus that they get to give those that have bought the game and don't own a GB or the GB games a large middle finger with an advertisement of a way they can play the GB games through the Transfer Pak via the GB Tower if they want to be able to use better moves and stronger mons. Same thing when it came to Gen 3, slap a restriction on Trading from Firered & Leafgreen into Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald until the very end of the postgame & lock trading in Colosseum and XD to the end of the game, lock Ho-Oh behind the very last gameplay challenge & make the in-game restricted battle facilities impossible to do with the available mons you get on disc to encourage owning all of the games.
It's hell part 2, hopefully ray played the new switch port and give us hell part 3
