fun fact about the rentals : geodude, pineco, graveler and koffing's explosions and self destructs are so powerful they can ohko every single pokemon that doesnt resist it. weezings self destruct is the next strongest one, but it fails to ohko cloyster, slowbro, donphan and wobbuffet. after those the strongest attack is fearow's hyper beam, which does about half as much as the explosions
Exploders are a double-edge sword, since trading pokemon 1-for-1 is the same thing as asserting that you can win a battle 2 on 2 or 1 on 1 against pokemon that typically have much better stats and moves. They (and Haunter) are fantastic for killing the scariest pokemon that your opponent has, but going willy nilly with the booms can often put someone unprepared into an unwinnable spot, especially in R2. They are fantastic pokemon with game knowledge, and good pokemon if you use them to surgically; also want to add that all of this does not really apply to Graveler, since it is good enough to kill pokemon straight up with Earthquake in addition to being a great exploder.
@@Weewoo12 I find that I often have 2 out of Graveler, Haunter, Weezing, Pineco, Geodude, and Koffing on my team, since you can often explode/destiny bond twice in a fight and still win quite handily.
Been playing Rentals Stadium for ages and have gotten close to beating it dozens of times. (The saves on my 100% legit Nintendo approved portable N64 keep getting lost before I can complete Round 2.) Here's a couple other Pokemon reccomendations that weren't mentioned that have some merit. -Starmie is a Waterfall bot that isnt very good, but it can be useful sometimes thanks to its high speed that other Water-types don't have. It can also check other Waters if you decide to use Zap Canon and go for broke. -Girafarig isn't very strong but they did make the mistake of giving it Baton Pass and Agility. It makes a very good teammate with the likes of Hitmonlee to guarantee going first or with Magneton. -Raichu can be a good situational replacement for Magneton in battles where the fast Thunder Wave is more consistent than Magneton's. (And trust me, it can be.) The ability to tank hits drops off a cliff and dies in Round 2, so Magneton actually isn't as obviously superior to Raichu as it seems in Round 1. -Dragonair is one that I actually cannot believe you did not recommend. This thing is a really solid support Pokemon. It carried great resistances thanks to being a Dragon-type, has Thunder Wave and Headbutt for para-flinching, and if memory serves me right it has Fire Blast which can come in clutch for Yolo damage and Burn procs. It's great and has a lot of all-purpose utility. -Electabuzz is the desperstion choice if you're tired of Thunder missing. Thunderpunch is still OK damage, it's fast, and it can support with Light Screen. Other than those picks, I can't say with good faith there are any other super secret good picks in the horizon. The video doesn't go into Round 2, but trust me. It *is* beatable with Rentals. It isnt something I consider fun, but it is still entirely possible.
I don’t have as much experience as it sounds like you do with stadium 2 but I gotta say slowbro and slowking are considerable picks as well from the recent experience i’ve had. Slowbro has surf and confusion while slowking has psychic and water gun. At least each one has a good stab depending on which type you wanna go for. I used them both when I beat prime cup
Seriously impressive how you manage to edit these and upload so quickly, now we need the emerald frontier battle factory rental pokemon video and the battle revolution rental video!
It's so funny seeing this vid because for the past decade literally the only Stadium 2 tier lists were like 'Electrode for the fastest Thunder in the game, Curse Snorlax can't go wrong!!' Thank you for finally providing an actually viable list the common people can use
Tyranitar, a pokemon so well known for having every move under the sun and such great stats, that special attack tyranitar is a legitimate threat. AND THEY GAVE IT MUD SLAP!
Magneton's type buff was even better in gen 2. Steel resisted Ghost and Dark back then. Water was the only thing that hit it neutrally. It was weak to ground 4x, fire and fighting, and resisted everything else, flying and steel 4x, poison immune.
Don't hesitate calling Voltorb good. I just completed the Stadium 2 complete game WR and I safely put Voltorb in my Top 3 rental pokemon in the entire game. AFAIK, Werster says it is his actual top pokemon in the game, as well. You said it yourself, pokemon is a numbers game, and a pokemon that can usually kill 1.5 of your opponent's team (1 with MC, usually cripples another with self-destruct) is nothing to scoff at. A 136 speed Thunder is also surprisingly useful, and its Rain Dance is great anti-cheese against Double Team users. Good video though! I was afraid when I saw Dewgong (I think he is massively overrated) but your synopsis of him is fair, he can serve a variety of roles in R1, even if other water types do something/several things a lot better (Starmie, Seadra, Vaporeon, Slowbro).

What a Convenient video. Now, the question in my mind is: "How Game Freak is going to squeaze our money in other to let we use our own pokémon in those releases?"
They won't, because the EV system is so different that it's not possible to cleanly translate contemporary Pokemon back to that era. At best, game freak would code it to where our Pokemon had maximum EVs in all stats. Realistically, they'd program the temporary transfers to have no EVs at all. Plus, there's the moveset issue. Tons of moves aren't allowed backwards and some old moves were removed from recent games. At best, gamefreak might give us random moves instead. At worse, we'd have to destroy our Pokemon's movesets to use them. Pokemon with partially random moves and realistically no stat experience is just rentals at that point.
@@Joker22593 evs and stat experience can be mapped 1:1 due to the fact that they do the same thing just at a different scale (stat experience can't be mapped back as cleanly because there's no stat exp max but you can't gain stat exp in stadium 2) and ivs can be literally just divided by 2 to get dvs also they could literally just ban moves that don't exist in current gens and bdsp I think contains everything that was in gen 2 so there's at least one modern game that could transfer back cleanly
Love that video! I just finished Stadium 2 today with rentals. Hitmontop and Hitmonchan are good in some cases btw! There's probably more I forgot but you said they were bad haha

Nice way to slay your own credibility in a single sentence, I'm genuinely impressed with how quick you pulled that off.
Y'know, despite the critiques you gave for Snorlax, he always felt damn good in stadium 2. basic and straightforward stab damage with even 1 curse boost usually will take half the health of the opponent's team down, usually with a ko and a huge dent in their 2nd pokemon. my man's raw numbers are just so nice.
Yoooooooooo! FE5 music? Love it. Pokemon stadium 2 with rentals only? Lief's army in search of victory indeed. Even Dorias and August can't save you now.
Tbh, Dewgong is one of the few Pokemons I have no hard encounter for in Pokemon Emerald's Battle Frontier. Its moveset? > Rest > Sleep Talk > Sheer Cold > Horn Drill Absolutely devilish.
Thanks for the video, i had heard stadium 2 rentals only was basically impossible (because they suck), so after beating stadium 1 remtals only (just round 1) i just gave up. Im gonna dust off my n64 and give this a shot thanks to you. Thanks man!
@@ImportedCheese there is absolutely NO WAY you don't know about pokemon tazos?? they were these collectible plastic discs found as prizes in chip packets in South Africa. it was during the pokemania of the early 2000s and they were literally everywhere. the little tazos would have art of all the different pokemon, including their name and pokedex number. they had holographic ones too that would evolve from base form to second stage by tilting the tazo. in retrospect i should have kept them from childhood, but i was literally the only pokemon nerd for MILES when i was younger, i never knew about sentimental/re-sale value lmao
I’m personally a fan of the slow twins in this game since they’re so bulky and each have one and a half good stab options, but I’m aware of how we feel about speed on this channel
I enjoyed all the extra little musical bits and references here, it's nice to see all the effort you put into these videos! Having seen some...documentation of round 2 with rentals, even by speedrunners, I think there has to be some point one cut your losses. Although seeing this did encourage me to pull out my Battle Revolution copy - may not be as good as S2, but at least it's graphics are higher quality than an N64 game! Imagine a more modern game not even having that! I remember you mentioning you were playing the BW2 games some time ago, so I'd be curious if that tierlist would end up much different to the original BW one! (However will we know the best mon to pokemon go to the movies?!)
hearing the words "The ai is very smart (and switches immediately out if wobbuffet uses Destiny Bond)" + "Pokemon" is kind of a miracle tbh. This game is 20 years old btw
Erika has a Vaporeon because it's pretty (fits her aesthetic, same reason Karen has a Vileplume and Agatha has a Golbat) and also it can help water her many flowers.
@@jesusramirezromo2037 Because Ampharos is a dragon. It's not given the Dragon typing because it's available to catch early in the game and Electric is a good typing on its own, but the concept is a sheep that gradually turns into a dragon that protects the flock of sheep. Its Japanese name is "Denryu", den meaning electricity and ryu meaning dragon.
Its one thing if Stadium 2 looks better than ScarViolet but its another when Battle Revolution exists on the wii and has surpassed every mainline Switch Pkmn game (and BDSP) in terms of fluidity and aesthetics.
Oh you played Bright Sandstorm during the Tyranitar section, I get it And not that this is even close to the actual likely meaning, but the running joke between my brother and I is that "Piloswine" is just "Pile of swine"
30:20 I recently replayed the Prime Cup. Rest Talk Dewgong came in major clutch against that Mew. Didn't win but it wore it down enough for Kadabra to come in and clean up.
Gengar is actually pretty good in my experience in pokemon stadium 2, I've had very good results with it. Not the MOST reliable but hypnosis+ dream eater is VERY solid.
It would be smart to make games like this, so that they can focus only on models and animations, and then reuse those assets in mainline games. But then they wouldn't have as many excuses to not care and just make something bad, so, not gonna happen.

- Chinchou is amazing. Confuse ray (100 acc 50% proc rate. It is definitely good) surf, thunder, rain dance. Rain dance makes thunder ignore accuracy, meaning thunder hits every time including- double team/lower accuracy spam, while its up. - Paired with zapdos, very strong thunder, rock smash comes in handy to chip out, hes not my favorite electric mon but 100% why hes used is cuz he doesnt get hit by ground moves. So many random pokemon have earthquake -Hitmonlee is gauranteed pick, i used primeape in round 1 cuz of dig n it was fine, but hitmonlee is just better -starmie high speed/ sp attack= great, lame move pool, but zap cannon def has very clutch moments. theres other good water mons, just my pick to attk first. Id prolly pick quagsire or slowbro for their bulk if not. The rest feels more personal choice but im on a madman ramble so heres jus some opinions Jynx does feel worse for sure lol. Still Stab ice punch beats grass ground n flying, and she can usually win agaisnt other psychic pokemon by outchipping with ice punch. Freeze is chefs kiss i dont count on it but when it does happen id raw dog jynx on the spot Houndoom is solid, outspeeds enough pokemon to actually get use of bite flinching 33% proc rate. his spattack is chunky, unlike every other fake ass dark mon or dark move user. Ember is fine, not great but usable Haunter gigachad sp attack w giga drain. Gigasucc a water/ground/rock mon and heals. Destiny bond alone gives him so much value, jus dont sleep on gigasucc
@ImportedCheese I feel you, i didn't prioritize confuse ray lol when building around chinchou but I started using it when I know I'm about to get KO'd and rain dance isn't up for gauranteed thunder hit. I hate missing thunder so ill just confuse ray to gauranteed land something u know it was landing pretty often so I jus learned yesterday it was 50% I'd still prefer thunder wave, but confuse still ends up buying me extra turns n helps safe swaps. Cuz dude round 2 like making swaps can blow, u take the 1 hit on turn u swap then outsped the next turn, and just die before doing anything

@@Joker22593 evs and stat experience can be mapped 1:1 due to the fact that they do the same thing just at a different scale (stat experience can't be mapped back as cleanly because there's no stat exp max but you can't gain stat exp in stadium 2) and ivs can be literally just divided by 2 to get dvs
also they could literally just ban moves that don't exist in current gens and bdsp I think contains everything that was in gen 2 so there's at least one modern game that could transfer back cleanly
I love the "slugma is a gen 3 pokemon" meme especially because, had I not played stadium2 as a kid, I would have also believed it is a gen 3 poke
slugma is EVERYWHERE in this game for some reason
A lot of PBR music used here ! Must mean PBR playtrough is coming next
(...Sorry about that. Excellent video !)
Well not next, but someday
Really dissapointed that you didn't use Ninetails as James McCloud for the meme. Other than that, this is epic!
Never give up ...trust your instincts ...
Love that video! I just finished Stadium 2 today with rentals. Hitmontop and Hitmonchan are good in some cases btw! There's probably more I forgot but you said they were bad haha
I only STAN for LEE
Slugmas on 3 different routes in G/S/C and Skarmory is on rt45 in Silver and Crystal lmao
Sure, pal. I know that anyone can lie on the internet, not buyin it!!!
@@ImportedCheesewas guessing that you were trying to be funny but that's the kinda joke that requires an explanation, any joke that requires an explanation just isn't funny. After hearing you say that I'm actually leaving this vid. It's just stupid and incorrect so how could I trust anything you say from this point on. Nice way to slay your own credibility in a single sentence, I'm genuinely impressed with how quick you pulled that off.
@@adamaus8770I'm actually curious if you're the one trying to be funny, or if you're mad that you didnt get a 20 y/o joke
@ElekktrOde just because a jokes old doesn't make it funny.
@@adamaus8770 because a joke is old, it means you dont have to explain it maybe 20 more years and you'll get it
The "real Wobbuffett is the tail" thing is actually true. It's not a fan theory; it's in the pokedex.
Y'know, despite the critiques you gave for Snorlax, he always felt damn good in stadium 2. basic and straightforward stab damage with even 1 curse boost usually will take half the health of the opponent's team down, usually with a ko and a huge dent in their 2nd pokemon. my man's raw numbers are just so nice.
he's....alright. Body slam would be nice
If scizor had steel wing instead of metal claw, i'd say it would actually be decent.
50 bp vs 70 bp...sad!
But....steel wing wouldn't get the technician boost, clearly!
Yoooooooooo! FE5 music? Love it. Pokemon stadium 2 with rentals only? Lief's army in search of victory indeed. Even Dorias and August can't save you now.
We'll play FE5 right after the upcoming FE4 remake!!!
such a useful guide thank you!
Thank you! Use wobbuffet!!
@@ImportedCheese on it
3:07 This scene made me way too depressed that I was forced to subscribed. Congrats Imported Cheese, you got me.
Once you're ready to face the final boss of pokemon, come find me within the moon...
@@ImportedCheese It's always the moon! It can't be the sun or Pluto. Cool. I'll be there.
The jumpscare of thracia music in stadium video... Fascinating
@@jazjo33_43 Kaga lives on!!
You failed to mention how Porygon2 DESTROYS Ho-oh with zap cannon!Great video tho!
not failed....DELIBERATELY CUT!
You know they did something wrong when I haven't played Stadium 2 in over a decade but still remember Rental Tyranitar's move set to this day.
How can they hit you after a mud slap accuracy drop?!
"You know he went really hard-"
Oh my.
"-on the cheating."
... ah. Well, that's significantly more mundane.
Skarmory is encountered below blackthorn city. I know slugma is also available somewhere in Gen 2. I don't remember because it's slugma
Below blackthorn city? Sure, pal. I played the superior GOLD version and never once saw it!!
Tbh, Dewgong is one of the few Pokemons I have no hard encounter for in Pokemon Emerald's Battle Frontier.
Its moveset?
> Rest
> Sleep Talk
> Sheer Cold
> Horn Drill
Absolutely devilish.
Hard countered by the mighty pre gen-5 STURDY!!!
Thanks for the video, i had heard stadium 2 rentals only was basically impossible (because they suck), so after beating stadium 1 remtals only (just round 1) i just gave up. Im gonna dust off my n64 and give this a shot thanks to you. Thanks man!
I believe in you
Be sure to pick Wobuffet
that X-atu joke is hilarious bc when pokemon still had tazos, i used to pronounce it like that. feeling called out lmao
what is tazos?!
I’m personally a fan of the slow twins in this game since they’re so bulky and each have one and a half good stab options, but I’m aware of how we feel about speed on this channel
low speed is......okayish in stadium, but it's still a huge problem in 3v3
We'll do bw2 someday, I'd be mad at you for asking but you asked so nicely!!
hearing the words "The ai is very smart (and switches immediately out if wobbuffet uses Destiny Bond)" + "Pokemon" is kind of a miracle tbh. This game is 20 years old btw
Modern AI must be even better!
6:41 when I first saw this I thought all the profiles were the same as the 4th one but as recolors
1 hour videos about rentals in pokemon stadium 2? Hell yeah
Only the best!!!
Can’t wait for see you trying r2

Erika has a Vaporeon because it's pretty (fits her aesthetic, same reason Karen has a Vileplume and Agatha has a Golbat) and also it can help water her many flowers.
No karen has vileplume and gengar because she's using her favorites or whatever
@@yomireal7570 Exactly my point. They fit her vibe and aesthetic, not her "type specialty".
Why does Claire have an amparos?
@@jesusramirezromo2037She new it would be dragon like 13 years later with the mega
I am so sorry to be the Um Actually guy; but slugma and skarmory are both gen 2 despite being hard to find in their native games.
Sure, pal. NO ONE will believe these lies
This is a pretty good guide but I wish that they would of just implemented the transfer pack in some way, maybe it'll happen in early 2023
Yeah that would be nice...

I appreciate all the knowledge of gen 2s battling and your appreciation for other classics like Thracia 776! Earned a sub
Let's! Fatigue mechanics!
Its one thing if Stadium 2 looks better than ScarViolet but its another when Battle Revolution exists on the wii and has surpassed every mainline Switch Pkmn game (and BDSP) in terms of fluidity and aesthetics.
Unfortunately PBR is not quite stadium 3....
where is the heart?! where is the content?!?! wtf is the rental pass system?!
but it does look good!
Oh you played Bright Sandstorm during the Tyranitar section, I get it
And not that this is even close to the actual likely meaning, but the running joke between my brother and I is that "Piloswine" is just "Pile of swine"
Ttar even has sandstorm!!
...Imagine spending a turn to sandstorm with Ttar
ur thumbnails going up bro
Thank you! I PLANNED it for COHESION with gen 1!
Saw the intro. Instant follow 😂
My FRIENDS are my POWER
i bought a n64 just to play these games and then it came out on switch so im lucky and can still play it on my n64
N64 has more functionality! Thanks nintendo
30:20 I recently replayed the Prime Cup. Rest Talk Dewgong came in major clutch against that Mew. Didn't win but it wore it down enough for Kadabra to come in and clean up.
Dewgong stat buffs pls...
@@ImportedCheese Double update, finally beat the Poke Cup Master Ball. The Wob and Rest Talk Dewgong came in clutch in the final battle.
to this day pkmn stadium 2 is the ONLY game with an ACTUAL useful lpokedex, you can look up egg groups, when to learn moves and so much more
Must be because the Nintendo 64 had such incredible processing power!
Rental Seedra is actually a fairly decent counter to Clairs Kingdra with its dragonbreath.
60 base power non stab dragonbreath tho...I dunno, sounds like a swindle!
I’ll never get tired of all the cheems mons 😂
I have dozens!!!!!
Gengar is actually pretty good in my experience in pokemon stadium 2, I've had very good results with it. Not the MOST reliable but hypnosis+ dream eater is VERY solid.
It's good!! Haunter is just better
It would be smart to make games like this, so that they can focus only on models and animations, and then reuse those assets in mainline games. But then they wouldn't have as many excuses to not care and just make something bad, so, not gonna happen.
Pokedex 3D, wow!!!
The first part of the live sounds more of Klonoa door to phantomile

KH2...Pokemon Stadium 2! It's all connected!
Actually had a ton of success with rental Snorlax (enough it was banned from my friend in 1v1 stadium games in our group)
It's.....ok, just not as good as you would think
- Chinchou is amazing. Confuse ray (100 acc 50% proc rate. It is definitely good) surf, thunder, rain dance. Rain dance makes thunder ignore accuracy, meaning thunder hits every time including- double team/lower accuracy spam, while its up.
- Paired with zapdos, very strong thunder, rock smash comes in handy to chip out, hes not my favorite electric mon but 100% why hes used is cuz he doesnt get hit by ground moves. So many random pokemon have earthquake
-Hitmonlee is gauranteed pick, i used primeape in round 1 cuz of dig n it was fine, but hitmonlee is just better
-starmie high speed/ sp attack= great, lame move pool, but zap cannon def has very clutch moments. theres other good water mons, just my pick to attk first. Id prolly pick quagsire or slowbro for their bulk if not.
The rest feels more personal choice but im on a madman ramble so heres jus some opinions
Jynx does feel worse for sure lol. Still Stab ice punch beats grass ground n flying, and she can usually win agaisnt other psychic pokemon by outchipping with ice punch. Freeze is chefs kiss i dont count on it but when it does happen id raw dog jynx on the spot
Houndoom is solid, outspeeds enough pokemon to actually get use of bite flinching 33% proc rate. his spattack is chunky, unlike every other fake ass dark mon or dark move user. Ember is fine, not great but usable
Haunter gigachad sp attack w giga drain. Gigasucc a water/ground/rock mon and heals. Destiny bond alone gives him so much value, jus dont sleep on gigasucc
I hate confuse ray
100% chance to waste your turn, only 50% chance the opponent loses their turn
It's far more likely you come out behind
@ImportedCheese I feel you, i didn't prioritize confuse ray lol when building around chinchou but I started using it when I know I'm about to get KO'd and rain dance isn't up for gauranteed thunder hit. I hate missing thunder so ill just confuse ray to gauranteed land something u know
it was landing pretty often so I jus learned yesterday it was 50% I'd still prefer thunder wave, but confuse still ends up buying me extra turns n helps safe swaps. Cuz dude round 2 like making swaps can blow, u take the 1 hit on turn u swap then outsped the next turn, and just die before doing anything
I feel like you slept on Jumpluff. High speed access to leech seed, mega drain, headbutt, stun spore.
Horrible gimmicks
I saw a speedrun where werster used a meganium rental with Swords Dance
sad
what’s your favorite gen in terms of pokémon designs? mine might be 2, i love the simplistic nature of a lot of them
