    I had to spend two months in a class once with one girl who always spoke with a vocal fry and another girl who always spoke with a rising inflection in her voice. It was a language class, and was intense and intensive.

      A lot of girls also use very weird intonation in their voice, they go higher at the end of each sentence. I think that's why a lot of women aren't heard, most men cut of their hearing when hearing such annoying voice pitch.

      Do you think it’s a conscious decision people make? The vocal fry hate only really caught storm when women in mainstream media started doing it. Men have been doing this since the beginning of time and never manifested mass criticism the way that it has with women. Pretty disappointing.

      @@avasava7720 Nah, you are right. It's not really THAT conscious, no different from the way any else changes/alters their voices. Notice how some people can make themselves sound confident? excited? happy? ect. Or if you have a problem talking fast so you purposefully alter your voice.
      Yeah girls like these can be annoying (it is the accent that i think is annoying combined with the fry) but i have a vocal fry and it is pretty lame how people are generalizing because they are not self-aware enough to see how they change their voices purposefully.

    I've learned that vocal fry shows low confidence. Confident woman speak like they were born to speak in their natural voice.

      To be even more accurate, it shows deception. Just like it would if a man started talking in falsetto. But because he is a man, everyone would give him a lot of grief over it. But girls in America never have their bad behavior called out.
      Deceptive people are very often under confident in themselves, yes. That's why they wear makeup, use filters, lie about their body count, etc. A fake voice is just one more thing they are lying with.
      I think that's one of the main reasons people react with anger to fry: it is just so obviously FAKE. To pretend it is their natural voice is super insulting. Like stepping on your toes and then saying you are just imagining it.

      @@StarryxNight5 Its not an accent. It's something done almost to appear to be a certain way. Like a man may lower his voice to appear more masculine. A true accent is someone's default way of pronouncing different words. Vocal fry would be comparable to someone trying to speak in a non native accent....that wouldn't be as annoying as vocal fry

    Just watched 3 seasons of this great show and sad that there isn't a 4th season as yet. This dark comedy deals with all sorts of issues including alcohol addiction, friend and family issues. Let's hope we have more Loudermilk!!

      I'm not the type of person who feels the need to be an a hole to a wage worker that I don't know. I'm not a fan of vocal fry either, but I've met people with this 'accent' who weren't pretentious or snobby. This skit makes the guy look like a jerk, not a comedian.
