  • The Highly Sensitive Podcast is for people with Sensory Processing Sensitivity--or those who want to better understand HSPs. In this show, I share personal stories, tips, rants, and occasionally interviews with interesting HSPs.
Today's episode is a special treat! I've got an interview with an extroverted, highly sensitive, man. He's also a comedian and software engineer. It's Johnny Martinez of the Introvert Extrovert Podcast.
In this episode, Johnny talks about:
-How being highly sensitive can help you crush job interviews
-Having a parent who is very not highly sensitive
-The benefits of being an extroverted HSP as a software engineer
-How comedy can be a defense mechanism
-Having a panic attack on stage!
-Ways to practice self-care as an HSP (mind, body, environment).

my god, my whole body went slack letting that section of 'being really funny and using it as a defense mechanism' just wash over me, I don't even know how to describe this feeling, gratifying, releasing. I have no idea. related word for word the journey, the self processing, even his way of talking and usage of words, god its difficult to listen to so many type of voices and their speech patterns trigger me. but that bit about being really funny and how we use it as a coping and defense mechanism, that hit me so hard. its such a twisted wrapped up part of myself that I love and hate so much, how dark and silly and overwhelming it is for me to think about when i process my reasons for creating them. uhhh hearing it reflected in his story, it really feels overwhelmingly free, and makes me feel kind of weird and happy cause there are kindred spirits.

What a lovely man! I am an introverted HSP, but I believe my son is an extroverted HSP, this sounds so like him! He's extremely empathetic and gifted in maths and sciences(and plans to be an engineer as well) and he often has stomach issues when he's stressed or worried. I really need to find more HSP's to have in my life, I get so drained by even explaining this trait to non-HSP's, this is real and I'm ok! A blessing once we discover the trait, before discovery it is often a curse (so society tells us). Love to all you HSP's out there💖 P.S. I adore cheesy jokes.

Great episode! I really get the part about interviews as well. I am a highly sensitive extrovert and since completing a course have gotten 2 job offers after 2 interviews. I find I am able to tune in to what they want to hear but then also relate my own knowledge to fit into the want in a way that meets both of our needs. What I mean by this is, I feel good talking about it and they feel good hearing about it.
Of course over preparing for the interviews doesn't hurt either.

Beauweir - Wow.. me too. I can so relate. There where times I had 2 and 3 jobs that wanted to hire me due to how well I had done in the interview, that I would purposely make this happen so that I had the control of the choice of job I would take. And if the 1st job didn't turn out as expected, I had the other 2 to fall back on. Does anyone else relate to this....?

Hi, I am very thankful to God that he puts an end to my madness finally. I am tired of hearing that "its ok, let it be, leave it and stuff I hate to hear". I was at a point where I started feeling that something is really wrong with me. I took depression medicine so many times at the difficult phases in my life. I am a extrovert but I feel highly disturbed when someone do not see my efforts, when they themselves are not doing anything closer what I have/had done. Please share that how do I make friends? how do I pick ppl who are right for me and not leave me later? Also plz share that how should I react on work? Right now I hide my real self and started to withdraw my self, because it at least saves me from getting hurt later. Because once I involve in something or someone, I just can't do anything after that. Plz guide. God bless you with all the help and sharing all this valuable information. I am now in a state of realization and I am pretty sure this will lead to some better results in life. NO MORE QUESTION MARKS FOR SO MANY THINGS.....:)
