Hedon was downright inspiring tbh. All the resources at the disposal of AAA companies and then this random Romanian dude with a game engine that's old enough to vote come and crank out one of the most enjoyable FPS experiences I've had lately. Nuts.

Bearserker difficulty provides some ranged options. They are melee weapons but you can throw them so technically still ranged. The axes are throwable and the hammer is like a grenade of sorts and is super useful. While most combat on this difficulty is straight up melee, the two throwable weapons provide enough leeway to make it totally doable. I thought it was tons of fun.
Also, if you have an elemental ring you become 100% immune to the hammer's splash damage - and immune to explosions entirely (its base effect makes you immune to fire and very resistant to explosions)
I got hyped a few days ago when I saw that Seed Of The Dead, a game I got after Gman's review, got a sequel which is surprisingly robust for what it is. Now there's a sequel to Hedon that's just a free update? Oh man, what a week.

I played the first headon on Brutalizing and enjoyed it. The only thing I wished was the creator would add more ammo spawns since more enemies are spawning. I think thats my main problem with doom over the years was doom eternal adding the chainsaw to gain ammo from enemies was what solved the "no ammo" issue at some points in the games. However this being said, The game throws A LOT of ammo. I suppose my problem is that I really like certain guns just because they're fun to use and wanted more ammo for those. A minor annoyance at best if i was being critical. Game was fun as FUCK and i cANNOT WAIT to play this expansion.. and it's free!? like .. damn.. amazing.
I've not played the game, but from what you've said about it, it feels very much like somebody wrote their own erotic fantasy novel and then made a videogame out of it. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm honestly pretty impressed with the commitment of the offer. Hey Gman. Since you are a Blood devotee, there's ZBloody Hell, a standalone game for GZDoom you should maybe check out. It's an evolution of ZBlood but it's no longer a mod for Doom 2 and is much more advanced and closer to the original Blood in terms of gameplay including room over room, shattering glass, accurate enemy behavior/animation and damage, physics and all that good stuff. They also included all the levels in their original episode format tihis time around plus the extra maps from ZBlood. It also mixes things up by adding new secrets to the maps, new rooms and sections while still remaining faithful to the original. It's also more challenging than the original blood. Great fun, great mod and definitely a must play for all hardcore Blood fans. Thought i let you know.

That mansion level also gives me big Blood, Overlook Hotel vibes. You even need to find tomes in that level to progress. Then again with this being a retro shooter, I wouldn't be surprised if they took inspiration from such a legendary game.

Bearzerker is pointless?!?!?! I am disappointed that you consider this mode as not worthwhile. It provides a completely different style of gameplay that actually forces you to think more about all the items you have and how to best use them. It's absolutely a blast to play! Seriously, I haven't cackled in glee at my actions in a game in forever, but I do in Bearzerk; pulling cultists off high ground to splatter using the spear (even got one to goomba stomp another) was great and using the greataxe to jump into a huge pack of mobs whirlwinding was utterly exhilarating! Additionally, the unique nature of its arsenal (if you just tried going through using the shield & axe.... no wonder you didn't like it) forces you to think about encounters differently, plus, it specifically uses the Brutalizing enemy and item spawns to facilitate it's different playstyle as well. I've done Hedonistic of both chapters so far, and Bearzerk on chapter 1, will do chapter 2 as Bearzerk too, but just finished it so gonna wait a bit before coming back for the Bearzerk run. It's definitely something that's best done apart from a reg playthrough as it is very different.
I've never felt more like Conan The Barbarian than when using the axe in this game. Having the alt-fire be a throw that gibs enemies was a stroke of fucking genius.

For those wondering, Bearzerk mode's new weapons have various utilities that make it less painful - some give immunities/resistances, some can deflect attacks, some can be thrown, et cetera. Also, afaik, the 'toughness' of the individual enemies is roughly the same as the medium/normal skill, but the spawn count is the same as the hardest.
My only issue with this was the art style that felt a bit all over the place at times. Don't get me wrong it's clear that a lot of effort was put into this and it shows but at times it feels like buildings don't match the rest of the scenery, some textures feel a bit too flat, some maps feel like they were made in Minecraft. I know most of my complaints are engine limitations and attempts to work around them, but still the end result looked a bit off for me. But still, efforts like this one deserve reward so I will definitely pick this one up. And not because the protagonist is a thicc monster waifu.
Really enjoyed the original, will definitely play the sequel. On a side note, I've noticed Gman has removed his Deep Rock Galactic (in early access back then) review, probably he is planning to upload updated review soon.
Played the first one a bit about a year ago. It was really good, but I got stuck in a level (snow covered mountain top, heading to a dwarven castle?) that didn't seem to have any way to progress and I couldn't find any solutions online. Gonna have to give it another go though, because other than that the game was brilliant!

So, something awesome I found out just recently during my replay of CH, the gas ammo for the potion launcher is flammable. I started shooting a bunch of gas and then using the flamethrower to blow up enemies stuck in it.

Here is a random tip, the lovecraft priests, they cannot melee and their only attack has a wind up so lure them to a corner and beat them with your axe or fists. Also I can praise Hedon for being a doom engine shooter as it doesn't have any hitscanners, like none but if you are given the option of choosing between playing Hexen or the Primarchs, the primarchs are a better choice, plus dog petting. Also I am jealous by the bonus image gallery because spike rifle LMG. Also I do love some subtle consistencies such as one room in the dwarf town, you find a witch or whatever they are called and a demon, one sleeps in the bed and the other sleeps in the bathtub.
Ok now I've got to ask if you plan on doing a review of the new Seed of the Dead game. Love all your reviews but I've made a mistake buying the new game because I loved your review of the first one so much :')
I got frustrated in the second act on my first play through but my second playthrough was really enjoyable. I remembered enough about where I needed to go that I didn’t really get lost and I was able to cut down a few hours on my playtime. It was fun enough that I went back to beat it again on Bearzerk/melee only (which is when I found out that the second act is completely broken after you get the red monk’s ring).

My only issue with this was the art style that felt a bit all over the place at times. Don't get me wrong it's clear that a lot of effort was put into this and it shows but at times it feels like buildings don't match the rest of the scenery, some textures feel a bit too flat, some maps feel like they were made in Minecraft. I know most of my complaints are engine limitations and attempts to work around them, but still the end result looked a bit off for me.
But still, efforts like this one deserve reward so I will definitely pick this one up. And not because the protagonist is a thicc monster waifu.

Played the first one a bit about a year ago. It was really good, but I got stuck in a level (snow covered mountain top, heading to a dwarven castle?) that didn't seem to have any way to progress and I couldn't find any solutions online. Gonna have to give it another go though, because other than that the game was brilliant!
There is a wall, near a cliff, its shattered, and you use it to climb in, if I recall right. Took me forever to find it

So, something awesome I found out just recently during my replay of CH, the gas ammo for the potion launcher is flammable. I started shooting a bunch of gas and then using the flamethrower to blow up enemies stuck in it.

Here is a random tip, the lovecraft priests, they cannot melee and their only attack has a wind up so lure them to a corner and beat them with your axe or fists. Also I can praise Hedon for being a doom engine shooter as it doesn't have any hitscanners, like none but if you are given the option of choosing between playing Hexen or the Primarchs, the primarchs are a better choice, plus dog petting.
Also I am jealous by the bonus image gallery because spike rifle LMG. Also I do love some subtle consistencies such as one room in the dwarf town, you find a witch or whatever they are called and a demon, one sleeps in the bed and the other sleeps in the bathtub.

I got frustrated in the second act on my first play through but my second playthrough was really enjoyable. I remembered enough about where I needed to go that I didn’t really get lost and I was able to cut down a few hours on my playtime. It was fun enough that I went back to beat it again on Bearzerk/melee only (which is when I found out that the second act is completely broken after you get the red monk’s ring).
