What exactly are you having difficulty with having small hands? I'm finding there is a strong need for you to learn how to have finger dexterity to control the strings (since you effectively "make" more strings as the yoyo goes around your hands and fingers). Unless you got a yoyo designed to be as wide as possible, it is best to learn on a standard size, I feel. Undersized or very narrow yoyos, especially yoyos that poorly guide the string, make learning difficult. This doesn't mean narrow yoyos and the like are pointless, they can help with accuracy, causing you to hit the string perfectly, resulting in less friction and a yoyo that remains in its plane of rotation. And I'm not a very accurate player yet, and I am still finding my best feel of yoyo. I do find myself going for mostly 7068 outer rim bimetals, as I like the look, and how they fit together. 6061 just doesn't feel the same. I'm still not sure if I prefer more stability (rim weight), as well as yoyo mass, so I usually go for yoyos that differ in mass quite a bit, or have differing floatiness. My Exia is floaty, and I honestly don't love it. The Monarch is definitely a heavier weight yoyo, and it is hard to get momentum, but it carries its momentum well when it gets it. The Duncan GTR is excellent to me, and I feel I can move with the yoyo easier. You'll end up buying a few yoyos, so don't avoid this one. It can change into a more standard yoyo, which is great. From a strictly learning standpoint however, a smaller yoyo will likely make catching the string more difficult to progress initially.
I love this yoyo. The Bangarang was my favorite but this is even better than that. Important note: the yoyo is a lot cheaper this time (than the Bangarang... 190 raw vs 300) and it does NOT come with the delrin rings. Those are sold separately (and totally worth it omg). Also he dyes them himself as well as doing the anodizing. Lathed Back Design is epic win. I am a huge fanboy. Everyone should try this yoyo.
