- Today is another busy day on the homestead. I want to mow inside the barnyard with the tractor first thing. Then I need to fix the livestock trailer before we take the steers to the butcher.

We live in southeastern Illinois on a 41 acres homestead. We just finished building our log cabin overlooking our pond. We are trying to grow our own food and raise livestock. Follow us on our journey living the rural life and developing our property and becoming more self sufficient.
Put blocks under the tail of the trailer....when the steers climb in it will tilt backwards....
Was thinking that same thought ...
I second that motion. 1000lb+ steer x 2 = that back end may drop and flip the front end of the trailer. I know the axles favor the rear of the trailer but it still could flip up.
Not a good idea to allow that kind of weight in and out of a trailer not hooked to a tow vehicle. If you need the truck for work, use the tractor for now. Good Vedic.
Definitely hook that trailer up to something. The trailer will move much less under the steers feet.
You might get by this time but next year's steers might not cooperate as well
I only started watching because I wanted to know how to get rid of stumps. I watch the video where you try to burn out that giant stump. I was hooked! I know now that video was taken a few years ago. Then I watched the gadget you made to get ALL those nails and metal off the ground. I watched you fence in your garden! O My, y’all are busy! My husband and I worked in the yard all morning and until the sun was going down, trying to cut down old trees and clean up our yard. I am so exhausted. Of course we are old enough to be your parents. Your videos are so inspiring. We only have half a acre in a neighborhood in a small east Texas town.
I’m so impressed with all y’all have done in only 6 years!!! We really have enjoyed watching today, and I’m sure we will watch many many more videos.
THANKS
Skateboard wheels work perfectly fine in the gate
Nice repair. Isn't it nice to have a wife that is willing to help with all the things that you can't quite get done on your own? Have a great week guys.
That’s a good woman to be out there helping with that 👍🏻
Seeing those turkeys made me miss having them around. They are one of my favorite farm animals.
I would switch your trailer door and the fence panel around so when you get them in trailer feeding on day your going to processor you can quietly close the back of trailer. Hope I didn’t confuse the issue.
This is a good idea! You don’t want to spook them while you’re wrestling panels and doors.
Good engineering, thanks.
Great job on the trailer
Feeding the steers out of the stock trailer prior to loading them up ,,,,, where have I heard that before? 🤔😊
You get a thumbs up 👍
What would do without your wife's help
You have a nice place
I like the barn you built
Got all winter to build out and repair the bottom of the trailer door.
The goats will like climbing onto and into the trailer!
A good "Help Meet" is a gift from God and is indispensable. He that findeth a wife findeth a good thing. Love the way y'all work together. I'd be in a huge mess without mine.
Amen
Amen , Jim !! God bless you and yours !!!! Eddy
A lot accomplished in a day.
Glad you are off nights so you can keep cranking out videos for us to enjoy. I know, that sounded selfish, but love watching your videos.
Much agreed, Miss Mary ... Glad he has Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to get "our" work done as we watch!
The farm looks so pretty, all green and lush looking pastures.
Good job on that door!
I would recommend you turn your block under the stock trailer jack the long way so when you are backing up to it and bump it, you won’t knock it off the block when it’s perpendicular to the trailer! 👍🏻 love the show thanks for your hard work!!
Great suggestion, never paid attention to it before, but I will. Thanks
Always good to see a new Country Acres video. And what a joy it must be to have a helpmate as sweet and willing and helpful as Rebekah is. And I know those cattles are saying, "Take your time on that trailer, Boss ... we're in no hurry ... "
Good job on the trailer.
Well, I believe that the steers would have said:
"Ooh, just take your time, Evan! Take your time..." 😉
Thanks a lot for the video! 😊👍🏻
Good job
Nice job fixing the trailer. Sure is nice having the tools to do repairs yourself 👍
Can't wait to hear about the yields/costs breakdown you always do when the butcher gets done!
Got me also when the trailer moved just a little. Great video.
You are a jack of all trades!
You are really good at figuring out how to correct and fix things. Enjoy your channel, glad you are able to put out videos again.
How's the deer report this year?
Great to start to see your posting again
Very nice job repairing the trailer. You have good ideas on how to fix things.
Another great video. Enjoy watching your videos. thank you.
Make sure your hooks at the bottom of the sliding door are solid. The animals could crash against it and break out.
...livestock need a safe ride..lol..good one, keep safe..
Good job on the trailer door repair.
Good enough for you??!? That’s back to original specs almost. If you want to replace that lower panel sometime, fine, but you made it functional now. This project reminds me of the mower, rake, and baler - you had to undo partial rigged ‘fixes’ to make them work. I think you’re doing a darned good job. I bet you’re really liking the shop and concrete apron to work on and in, and to keep the tools at the ready.
Love that gaggle of duckies ... and the turkeys are beautiful. And Evan, you are hardly a procrastinator! Your list is just really long. And neither are you lazy ... not with all YOU get done! AND a little farm-created income from those critters!
Evan, you are the greatest and can fix anything.Watch all of your videos. You have a beautiful piece of property that many can only dream about having.Have a blessed day and be SAFE,my friend.🙏👍💯🚜
You got a great deal on the trailer Evan. Good job installing the roller.
Good to see you back up and going. That work marathon of yours has got to be rough on you and your wife.
Good to see you both back. Good you got every thing sorted for transporting the animals.
When I was a kid my dad would feed our beef cow treats in the trailer so it was always easy to get it go into the trailer when it was time for freezer camp.
Awesome job on the trailer!
Howdy Evan, Very Nice "McGyvering" on the trailer door. Great idea to feed the steers in the trailer so that they will be used to it. Have A Day! ;~)
You did a good job fixing the door. The only suggestion I would make, is weld a piece of flat iron on bottom of door after hauling is complete. Then door will last for years to come. Enjoy your videos. You also have a good helper when you need her. You guys work good together. Blessings on you guys🙂
Great to see everything is more enjoyable to keep repaired. Looking good around there. Thanks for sharing with us. Fred. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻✋🏻✋🏻
JudithB We built a chute and catch pen near the barn so we could load hogs from one side pen and cattle from the other side. Also had a head gate so we could do shots, worming, ear tags, etc and sure made things easier!!! LOL
That looks exactly like the projects I do at my place. . . .other than the 45 minutes it takes looking for tools and another 45 redoing something I did wrong!!! Great Vid!!
You did a good job on the trailer and made it work like it was suppose to and you had a good helper also. You had a good idea about feeding the steers in the trailer and getting them use to it, before you have to load them.
Good morning. 👍👍
Good job on the trailer
As the saying goes "where there's a will there's a way" always great to accomplish something useful!
Good job 👍
You did a good job.
Very nice trailer..
You need a couple of sheep. We use them as lawn mowers. Buy in spring and sell in fall.
For those 'behind the barn' weedy areas the goats never seemed to work well for us either in keeping it trimmed, but having a few sheep around did. Goats like to eat tree leaves and climb on things where they collapse fences.
Good job on the door. Seeing your trailer reminded me I need to put my license plate on mine 🥴
Nice fix on the door
The door latches with a lock, along with the hooks you installed should also help with keeping the door in place during transit. 👍🎯
I had to laugh when the strutting, majestic tom turkey absolutely DEFLATED when you picked him up. He didn't look much different than the hens at that point. Poor guy!
Maybe put some blocks under back of trailer to keep the front on jack block from raising up when something heavy goes in back!
Good repair! Actually think that your repair was much easier than what they had to do welding it shut, but maybe they didnt figure out where to get wheels, who knows, but we know that your repair is as good functioning as new!
Tight fit in the carport. Maybe keep the trailer in the pole barn?
Safety tip! Check back swing door to see if lift's off hinges,if it does you need to weld stopper on top hinge! Had a sow go under door & took it off trailer & spent the day in the ER.🤕
Good video!
Put a block under the rear of the trailer to keep it from raising up when the steers climb into the trailer.
Nice video
Put some blocks in the back so when they get in it won’t tilt
Looking good guys be safe out there I think you need more freezers I have 4 of them one for fish The other ones for the beef the other ones for the pig and the other ones for my cows your buddy from Nebraska
Check with the mfg of your stock trailer and
a replacement sliding door may still be available.
!
Trailer needs to be connected to a vehicle or something, or at the very least chock the front of the tires, if you plan to feed the steers out of it.
I would have put the red gate behind the trailer door and secured it with a chain. That way if both steers were in you could whip the chain off and slam the door. I think 🤔
Good diagnostics and repair Evan. I have to wonder why the previous owners did not just fix the damn door like you did? As I always say each to their own. You should have forethought the licence plate bolts .. ha ha ha !
Evan : I'm a procrastinator
us ; we know we know
personally I was going to procrastinate but I put it off
great video of everyday work necessary on a farm
great to watch another fix it guy at work
I found great caster selection at northeast tool supply keep em coming
Love the vids
I enjoy your videos so much I can watch you both all day long. As a matter of fact, I think I'll go binge watch you today on the personal playlist I made of your channel 😁 All 270+ videos ❤️
When welding on old rusty steel make sure to grind off as much rust as possible first so the weld penetrates well and is free of contamination. Also-when I'm mowing I always remove my loader and put some front weights on...it makes the tractor way more maneuverable and improves visibility. It only takes 10 minutes and really makes a big difference! Great video--really enjoyed it!
Put some blocking under the the back of the trailer so it doesn’t tip up when the cows go in. Maybe you can put a ratchet strap vertically so door won’t jump off the track.
Hi Evan. Nice job you did on the trailer. It was well worth getting those wheels at that price and to be able to fix the trailer at a low cost. It is nice to have all the right tools to be able to fix things yourself. Don't forget to send some of the meat my way. You and your wife have a great day and stay safe and looking forward to the next video and more to come out.
A good idea to feed the steers in the trailer get them use to going in and out makes loading up much easier
Love your farm. A little worried about leaving the trailer like you did they are heavy animals and could lift front end of trailer off the ground and scare them making it harder to get them in when you do try to load them. Maybe should hook tractor to trailer and leave it hooked up if this is what your wanting to try.
Great minds...or farmkids who have been there, done that. Lol I just made the same suggestion. I guess I should read all the comments before putting my two cents in.
The both of Steers have been inside the trailer. The trailer didn't move. The dual axles are far enough back on the trailer it would take a lot of weight to lift the tongue.
@@CountryViewAcres , there goes that darned physics again. Lol. Good to hear it worked well for you, Evan.
Making good use of that welding table already!
If you were to dig a trailer wide slope by a gate and trailer deep, the steers and potentially any other animal would not have to climb into the trailer when you want them to. :D Other than that your farm and videos inspire me.
I hope if the steers get in the trailer the front does not pop up with the weight in the back.
You did a good thing by thinking ahead both by getting another freezer, with all that meat coming up, and also training those steers to enter that trailer. If you don't have a good area to work and load cattle it can gets to be a real ordeal to load and manage them - rather like driving a herd of cats. Thanks for sharing another great video.
As large as those steers are you might want to hook your trailer to one of the tractors so they can't push it forward. Just a thought. Good job repairing the sliding door. I think those are the same casters our son bought to put on a work bench he just built.
Necessity the mother of invention. Another problem or two solved
We used some 4 inch? Pellets to get a 2,000 lb Bull to auction. He went right in there after them.
just a suggestion ... cattle are curious... leave trailer there... but dont feed them in it regular. they will be more likely to go in to investigate, ONE time. Day of loading.
Did you think of putting the cattle panel and trailer door reversed so it is easy to close the trailer coor
I tried that line about "Don't look at me" with my partner....it didn't work 😁😁
The next project is to take door off replace bottom of door.
You better but something under the back end so when the cow steps in it don't go up and scare them
I've heard of people doing this with pigs, but not with steers. be interesting to see how this goes.
Envy your welding skill.
Still addicted...........heading to rehab !!!
Almost time for steak! 🤓
Nice repair! Will you replace the rotted steel this Winter? In the meantime you can treat the rust with OSPHO to stop rust from spreading and further rot.
Just a question for you , how do you like the tym tractor , there is one here for sale with 3 attachments, bucket, bale spear , and I believe a tiller , all for
$27000 and also nice repair!
Hello good buy on that trailer and looks like you did a great repair job too. Did you block up trailer on the back end or does it need it? Have a good night.
Just saying , I only put or have my front loader on when needed , heavy on your front end parts .
Evan uses that loader more than any other implement on that tractor.
Will you have footage of the processing of the steers as well? Not the dispatching but the processing of them?
