There's going to be a spiritual successor by the original devs of Rollcage called "Grip" Big plans are coming up for the game, as well as community input. This should be great.
GRIP is really getting good now. Haven't played in a bit but the intensity is real. Anyone who hasn't bought it yet should weigh their options sooner rather than later.
The price currently on Steam for the PC game is $29.99. It was a bit cheaper because early access and whatnot, but its still worth every penny.
If you hold off a bit, though, versions for PS4, Switch, and XBOX One are also confirmed to hit the shelves, possibly later this year. All versions except Switch should be 4 Player Splitscreen capable, with Switch's hardware limiting Splitscreen to only 2 Players.

A classic indeed, I remember playing this as a kid for the first time and I used to think the graphics were so advanced, man how time flies.
That was such a nostalgic hit. I remember the moment I saw it advertised on the back of a gaming mag and was like "shit that game looks good"...I then remember playing it when it came out and was so impressed with it. The races were so fast, loved using the POV view!
for people who think this footage looks slow: it is, but that's only because he's playing it that way. I no - lifed the shit outta this game when i was younger and let me tell you this game is FAST even on PS1. Once you spend some time unlocking the higher tier cars and some of the more advanced tracks you'll see what i mean. The game even lets you collect two boost powerups during a race and use them simultaneously, which jacks your speed from 200 km/h to 650 in less time than it takes you to blink. And that's just with low tier starter cars. ALSO if you hang on to those boost powerups and keep running through weapon pickups you might find ANOTHER boost powerup that stacks onto one of the boosts you already have making it a super boost (this works for all powerups btw). Try using a high speed car and see if you can pop two super turbos at the same time in a race. You'll hit 1200km/h easily >:)
Have this on PC. Looks great and plays fantastic. Always loved the scramble tracks where you could become really creative to make better times.
I'm disappointed that you didn't put in any footage of Scramble mode or races with Tier III vehicles.
Scramble mode because it can be a real test of driving skill (Or how cheeky of a shortcut you can squeeze out).
Tier III because, if you time hitting the throttle at the start properly, you can launch from 0 to around 500 MPH.
Practically INSTANTLY.
Please revisit this video and give the game, its predecessor Rollcage, a similar game called Firebugs by the same devs, and the
CURRENT GEN SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR GRIP (ALSO BY SOME OF THE SAME DEVS)...

@TheDraggie I'm 25 and Rollcage Stage 2 is STILL my favourite game ever and I played hundreds of them . It's truly amazing title.

He didn't leave Tier I, MAYBE Tier II. Tier III is where the cars, especially the better ones (Unity Wolf and Unity Genesis anyone?) REALLY get a kick in the pants. 0 to ~500 MPH off the starting grid INSTANTANEOUSLY FTW!
Menus act a little wonky when the disc's in a PS2 but they still work lol

Looks sweet! I'd never heard of this one before, but the PS1 has so many games it's crazy!
Just picked this up yesterday disc only for .99 cents in the bargain bin at my retro shop. Glad I did! Love me some quirky racers! Had no idea what to expect, but when I got home and typed it into YT to see some gameplay I knew I scored when I saw MJR did a special on it all by itself WAY BACK in the day! Glad to find one way back in the archive I've never seen before. Even a bruiser cameo...WOW! Not even CGR has one up on this yet to this day which is RARE! This game reminds me of the RC car that run into walls and flip into going the other direction, Forgot what they were called, but I think Tyco made them.
The Tyco Rebound. Never owned one but would love to. You can snag a cheap mini version called the Flip Stunt Rally car at WalMart for around $10. Runs on AAAs but its still fun to mess around with.
The controller broke on it after a bit but I was able to crack it open and replace one of the buttons that went bad with a bit of soldering, so do be mindful that they're cheap for a reason.

me & my roommates spent many hours battling it out in rollcage. your review makes me wanna jump back in. nothing quite as gratifying (or frustrating if you're on the receiving end) as being in second place right at the end and dropping the wormhole to swap places with the leader dead on the finish line.

Great Game! I only had the chance to play the 4min. Demo version of the ps1 rollcage stage version. You can choose between 3 Tracks and the Sample Mode with 2 Tracks. There was only one music track in the demo that was sadly never released in the full game.

I personnaly like the both 1 and stage 2 ; IMO the 1 is harder, ennemies are very fiercy, and cars more difficult to drive : for example, in Stage 2, you can turn a little when you're on the air ; two excellents games anyway !

I hope it`s not too late to say this but 2 guys that worked on rollcage are making "GRIP". (It`s basically rollcage 3 but with different name :p )
loved the scramble mode, too bad Bruiser didn't mention it :)
I had it on ps1 sadly it broke but i torrented it for pc and its soo much better best part is the multiplayer and yes people actually play multiplayer after soo many years

I love rollcage and stage II. My only double edged complaint about stage II is: I feel slower BUT I have more control of my car and not have a crash ruin my whole race.
But at the end of the day love the series
