Crazy how Rollcage I & II look just as terrifyingly fast today as they did back then
First Rollcage was recorded on Neo-mode, a cheat added in the Redux version :D It makes the acceleration much faster, and max speed much higher, while not changing the handling. Original version is much slower.
That 24 times g-force acceleration though - Basically the same g-force as you'd feel from the gravity on the surface of the sun
Played the strage II and Grip, the car shown in the video is actually the best car in the game in stage II, accelerates much faster than any Grio cars.

Rollcage had a button that spun your car forward if you got turned the otherway, GRIP could use that mechanic.

Grip is an incredible looking game, but to be honest, Rollcage has also aged really well. I would still play the game with my brother if I could, though we've both aged by over a decade since we last played, lol. I haven't been able to try Grip yet - waiting not-so-patiently for PS4 version.
Grip is really good but some of the new modes actually work against it. It would have been funner if it was just racing like the originals. They added a bunch of other game types that are necessary to play to progress and it kills it a bit. Thats as of the last build I played at least, it may have been updated by now as games these days are.
I love seeing these series being reborn and I'm really glad developers received the support they were asking for back in 2015 to launch the development of this game. Back in the days Rollcage was pretty much the only game I played, it was one of those games which blew my mind, with all the tracks and trials mode. Great video on comparison!

Just started playing Roll cage stage 2. Amazing game 🤯
Personally I'd prefer to see the cars in GRIP to feel much heavier and less floaty so they could fit the now much more "it's a car, not an rc toy" appearence to them, sometimes you're just flung all over the place and, while it's also easier to catch up in this game, it can end up feeling more irritating than exciting... maybe have an option to turn the gravity or car mass up?

I did feel like the cars in NFS Hot Pursuit is a bit heavier.
But Grip is still really cool.
While I looked through a list of racing games on Wikipedia, I randomly thought to search up on Rollcage Stage II on Google when I saw that title. Went to images, and happened to see the thumbnail to this video.
What I didn't expect to find out though that there was a new game coming out soon that is GRIP. Seeing this new game is done to look closely the same to the two original games, makes me just excited now! This is fucking awesome. Another part of my childhood come true!
I know I used to enjoy playing the first Rollcage game on the Playstation many years ago when I was young. However I don't recall to have ever known about the sequel, nor GRIP, until now. Kinda sucks for me... Wish I had known better about those earlier, especially Rollcage Stage II.
Ah well, anyway... it's a lucky coincidence for me to find that out it gets released on 6th of November this year. What a good timing to discover!
Don't get your hopes up. Grip is being ruined by every update and stupid decisions of the devs... That's why i don't make videos on it anymore. It's not worth your money. Stay with Rollcage and Rollcage stage 2. In the description you will find links to Redux (rollcage 1) and Extreme (stage 2) made to work on windows 10.

The developers are planning on eventually bringing it to console but they need to finish the PC version first.

Gosh, racing games rocks hard back then. So many unique ideas, so many experimentation, so many imaginative concept that push the genre forward. Nowadays they are all the same, if its not open world ''cars with numbers'', its yet another sim racer where you drive the same real world car in the same real world track. Where are those creativity and imagination go???

I think that low RPM sounding engine from carmageddon isnt helping GRIP to sound very fast, it needs to sound something like F1 some high RPM engine ...
try watching some gameplay of the vintek rogue, sounds and looks like an f1.
I think Rollcage Stage II looks much better on PSX (the original PlayStation), the version shown here is the PC port. Also there had been some considerable rework done with Grip since 2017 (track, weapons, FX), but overall it looks about the same.
I remember having small electric toy cars based on the cars of this game.

Looking good. Interesting to see the graphics side-by-side, it hasn't lost the feeling of the originals, despite some stylistic updates.

Man I only played rollcage 2 but I loved the game and I feel like if I ever played the first one I would love it or this new game that is basically just like it
The no starting boost in GRIP was a massive downer...
Its there but nearly unnoticable.
rollcage stage 2 is the best one compared to grip and rollcage cause it sticks to it's 90's urban roots and how to control it is better. (it's funny on how people forgot about firebugs.)

Got the GRIP on a January sale for 10 bucks so I'm not crying my heart out about it being.... ok. But just ok.
Saying this game is ok is a bit of an overstatement xD That's why i stopped making content about it. My need for speed is being quenched by Quake Champions at the moment. Grip is dead.

Rollcage 1 is my fav racing game of all time, hands down lol. 2 missed the mark a bit with some annoying tracks and a slightly different feel, not tried grip, looks cool tho

In the old days you could hit all kinds of objects and stuff and still keep your place and just go full throttle right away.
Now if you hit something or go upside down you probably finish last.
first rollcage was recorded on Neo mode that`s why it looks like that, but yeah GRIPs physics are still broken, and me with the rest of vets are trying to talk this through with chris... And tbh if you know how to drive you`ll win every race in GRIP

How in the world did you get Rollcage looking that good? I know emulators are a thing but that level of graphical settings looks way better than what a regular emulator should look! Please, I gotta know what you did!
It is not an emulator. Just the pc version has a bit better rendering quality and resolution. Download rollcage 2 for pc and you are good to go.

Grip just doesn't seem as fast as the old Rollcage games.
If you like the old games, one of the original programmers did a redux version, with MANY huge engine changes, making it possible to run it on newer hardware, and take advantage of it in various ways, to make the game super smooth. He also fixed controller problems and graphical issues, and enhanced a bunch of other both graphical and technical aspects of the game.
Check the description ;) I'm one of the main people from the rollcage steam group that found Rob. He's a badass for updating this game after such a long time. Also... He works on GRIP now.

GRIP is not a remake, its a successor so they cant copy anything from the original series :C Sony would rek their asses if they would even think about it, 'cause they still got the IP.

How do you know that, the devs still working out the physics and feel of the driving experience. That is why it is in early access. Your concerns about GRIP might change or not, but we don't know yet.

@@WROB3L Maybe not, actually. But I noticed that maybe what made me think that is probably that GRIP lacks those visual effects Rollcage has, like the air trails, which kinda give you a more pronounced sense of speed. That's kinda of a pity, imo, but the game still seems really yummy though. :)
(I'm aware the RC gameplay in your video is faster than normal, btw. Haven't played the game in years, but I still remember it enough. It was engraved in my soul by a hot iron. :D)

PSX was what the the PS1 was called during development and some people still refer to it as the PSX

That's because they play slow, what modern graphics brought to us is the sense of weight and inertia the old games couldn't have. When you're playing, your car's handling and dodging obstacles with the slow acceleration feels actually frightening.

I would agree. Except the graphics point. Graphics are on point. The worst part about grip was the bugs, physics, dumb decisions when it comes to gameplay and soundtrack was too soft. They went with hospital records, when I told them to get eatbrain or blackout
