Khilona - A story on positive parenting

Khilona demonstrates what can be promoted as positive parenting in homes and schools.
Positive parenting provides equal opportunity in thoughts, aspirations and opportunities to children and enables them to transgress the boundaries of the socially constructed binary opposites of masculinity and femininity.
In the formative years of children, every opportunity can be used to make them feel confident irrespective of gender. The focus of the film is to show that aptitude and capabilities are not gender dependent and as parents and elders, we must not reinforce children into roles based on gender.

This is such a accurate representation of how something as small as a toy - khilona can make gender discrimination realted statements. I loved how they switch the "gender roles" here and pass such a positive message of how differently people are built. That not every girl likes cooking and not every man likes sports. These likes and dislikes should not decide one's gender.

I found this book interesting - How Dad made me a superhero. My 7 year old read this quite a few time on just 2 days .. He's actually overcoming his little fears and open to explore the scary situations. I happy with this book.

A stereotype broken in a short film and not to mention the positive reinforcement of the parents shown is something which is very rare. This film brought in light the two major issues which our country needs to deal with when it comes to children and their dreams.

This is such a creative way to both highlight the deeply rooted patriarchal nature in our society and help find a solution to the same. I am sure every girl and boy not only in India but around the world experience some or the other form of inherent bias by their loved ones. This video showcases a very huge concept that the girls are not meant be at home or do household chores or the boys are not meant to go outside and work. The girls can also go outside and work and earn money for the household where the boys can stay at home and help in cooking or doing other household chores.
