Your you tube channel has helped me through tragic times, I lost my wife and my little girl a month ago, my beautiful family pasted away after a terrible car accident, we were about to start travelling in our ford transit high top but since the accident the camper has just stood, I came across your channel and started watching you both and you both have really taken the edge of the way I’m feeling you are both so inspirational THANK YOU every little bit helps me, keep up the fantastic channel, I’m surprised you both don’t sell t shirts with your channel on and a picture of where you both have visited, you could do a summer, autumn, spring and winter collection I know I’d definitely buy the complete collection, anyway all the best to you both, jay

For drying things out , I use a aluminium tumble dryer hose ,connect it to the outlet of the diesel heater and you can direct hot air to wherever you like. Also it gets quite warm as well so you can dry your socks on it. When you don't use use a velcro strap to keep it in place as it contracts to a compact bundle

We used to have a guesthouse in the lake district and were used to dealing with guest's wet boots. A tip to dry out wet shoes /boots. Remove any laces, pull any tongues forward and stuff with any paper you have. Preferably, news paper. Leave as long as possible. All moisture will soak into the paper and then remove the wet paper and replace with more dry if necessary. Works everytime. Thanks again for a very real vlog on van life and Liam, your optimism is simply awe-inspiring.

Bad luck is.....I passed three hugely sodden blankets ' thrown ' next to a store. One of the blankets moved. On second view I noticed two people. I have been in that situation so I could relate to how cold, wet and uncomfortable they were - and would have been for the following few days. ( Unlike you two ) they don't have people who love and who care about them. You have money; a roof over your head and you have each other. I KNOW that no one needs much more than that. So even when you run - out of gas.....your life is a wonderful life. And we - your subscribers - are so happy that you share your lives with us. And I , for one , am looking forward to all your future videos. Have a wonderful, and luckier! , New Year.

The peaks are one of my favourite places to walk. Last time I did kinder scout I decided it was a great idea to drive 4 hours from suffolk and then back again in a day. If you’re ever in suffolk you’re more than welcome to a portable gas cooker with several cans of gas.
When my boots get wet I stuff them with newspaper. This does help them dry out a bit.
Glad you finally got your Christmas dinner. I had vegan turkey and I’d recommend it to anyone.
Keep smiling and having fun. All this is a learning curve for you. Take care.

Condensation. You cannot prevent it, but sometimes you can tell it where to go. I have seen many van people go out of their way to stop it going on the front windows, but the truth is that is the best place, because it will find somewhere else if you do, most likely a spot out of the way where it will collect and perhaps cause future problems, rust or even attract black mould. Insulating the van doesnt stop the metal from transmitting heat or cold. If you cannot have a dehumidifier and have it running, then maybe one window can be used as a heat shrink where it will condense and run down to a collection point. In the mean time, great to follow you and thanks for sharing your trials and tribulations. 👍💖

Hey guys! Fill an old sock with some Catsan cat litter… wedge it into your wet (or smelly) boots overnight and it will work wonders to dry them out and minimise any odour too.
Been living in my self converted VW LT46 ex school bus for almost 3 yrs now and have a myriad of cool tips and tricks to make life easier.

We did the NC500 in our van a few months ago. The way we dealt with wet boots was quite simple but effective. We just put them in the passenger footwell and when we drove around had the heater on hot and directed down, worked really well.

When we were kids in the 70s and stayed at my grandmothers house we used to ‘ at my grandmothers request shove until packed tight yesterdays newspapers into our shoes and leave them in front of the old Arga which cooled down during the night, yet without fail our shoes were dry in the mornings, so stuff those walking boots with old newspaper until packed hard, after pulling out the insole if you have one, and leave in front of any tiny heat source that you have, it’s worth a go, and a lot better in my memory, I’m so glad you managed to put yesterday behind you over the Christmas period and I haven’t heard either of you complain about it at all, after the fact, your both already Rock Hard travellers as far as I’m concerned, and your really making me smile Thank you 🙏 So much, I loved the trek you did with the fast moving burn, there’s always safety in numbers with that sort of thing in winter conditions, and I don’t have to tell you that, your the ones that did it ! Yay ! Blessings to you both I’m loving this, and binge watching what I love, so much gratitude to you both for sharing your journey with us. Old Creaky Owl 🦉 Alaya.

You’re likely cooking more hot food in the winter, make sure you still buy a camp stove for emergencies! A good gas saving tip is to pour all your excess boiled water into a good flask and use it to warm the next kettle full, most gas is used going from cold to warm…hope that makes sense?! Hi, think about swopping the calor for a safefill gas bottle..... much lighter as they are fiberglass, you can legally fill up at any petrol station selling LPG, £25 to exchange 3.9kg calor holding 7 litres of liquid butane, safefill (7.5kg) £10 for 14.5 litres of butane, the safefill bottle will pay for itself with five fill ups, plus you can top it up rather than wait for it to be empty, I've just bought two for my Caravan and campervan, it's a game changer. Ps, safefill do three different sizes.

We had a magical 2 week holiday there right before the pandemic and it was a dream come true. My next dream is to go on a similar holiday in England- I am a health care professional and travel remains difficult but i will find a way- Greetings and the Happiest of New Years to you from a vegan Mainer across the pond. It ran out for two reasons only, you used more gas than you normally do, or there is gas weeping from loose connections. If it is the latter, you may explode your van. Check the joints with soapy water solution or get it checked by a gas fitter,, not later but ... NOW.... Don't mess with gas as it will make as mess of you both...

It's worth using a bubblewrap sheet with foil covering round the hinge openings and where the doors meet ( cheap from b& q) also cut some the shapes of your windows to insulate the glass. Your mates dead right on heating the garage, even venting from the living area and the garage will help warm it up( with air flow up the back doors will help circulation and reduce condensation but even on a cold night your roof vents need to allow air flow( some have constant venting) glad you found gas and bought a back up cooker ( it's a great idea anyway so you can cook outside when theres better weather. Hi again guys, just a suggestion. The roaches and tittesworth reservoir in Leek, peak district is definitely worth a visit. It's a gorgeous walk from the roaches to Lud's church. Lud's church is just ruins now but stunning. We usually park in a layby on roaches Road just below Hen Cloud and the roaches rocks but make sure you definitely park in a bay as I've seen loads of tickets on cars even slightly out of a bay. I think satnav postcode is ST138UB then you'll see the bays. Keep your eyes peeled on your way up for the Don Whillans memorial hut, its really quirky. Safe travels guys ❤️

For helping to dry boots out remove insoles and laces and let them dry separately.
Get as much surface water off with a micro cloth. Then either use a clean cloth (shammie or micro or even newspaper). And stuff them into the boot to absorb excess water.

buy a msr whisperlite universal stove as a back up, you can run it off gas, unleaded petrol, paraffin, its easy to maintain in the field for decades of use and economical with petrol and paraffin, only catch is you will have to use it out of the van, but i don't see that been a problem if it is a back-up, also consider something like a gosun solar cooker if you want to save on gas over the years.

I would love to try van life but I can’t imagine not having some sort of toilet & shower . I get up most nights at least twice to go to the loo so it’s something that I have to really consider. Watch the film The Dam Busters.
Put Bubblewrap on your windows to stop condensation. Spray the windows with water and that holds the bubblewrap to the glass. Is effective for keeping in heat as well.
To dry your shoes fill them with newspaper overnight, remove the paper in the morning and place them on top of a pot of warm water on your stove. Alternatively is to have night lights in food tins and place some raised metal over the top of two ie a pot or empty biscuit tin and place the shoes on that after taking the paper out. If too hot, put a piece of cardboard on the surface. Keeping an empty pizza box is good for that. I don't live in a van but an old draughty house and I dry mine, and warm them before wearing, that way on top of my range.

Shoe drying -- put them on a rack in the air circulation from your heater (but not directly in front, it's too hot), soles uppermost & angled so the toes are much higher than the heels. Air must circulate inside the shoe.
If that's not an option put them as high up as possible, same way up & with circulating air.
If the shoes are really wet rinse them out with lots of clean running water before trying to dry them.
Shoe drying in a van is nearly impossible though so...
Prepare shoes for getting wet (wax or whatever) before getting them wet.
Best is to pick shoes that can cope with getting wet - single layers of quick-drying materials is best - oiled-canvas deck shoes, beach sandals, Crocs etc (Wellies don't dry easily, you need seaboot socks so they don't get wet inside)

Scrunch up single sheet newspaper down wet boots when you take them off. Not too many. Leave tiny bit of space between the sheets for the moisture to move. The newspaper will help soak the moisture.
Then when your moving about put the boots in the footwells with the heating turned up.
Everyone ive seen do van life in cold climates in addition to diesel heaters, has a small van stove as well with a back metal plate. Ideal for drying and warming for free. Good to have redundant systems.
Also good to note that many dont start with a stove, but acquire in yr 2😆
Also interesting the properties of newspapers. You can resuse same ones countless times so long as they get to dry out. I wonder if you scunched loads of single sheet newspaper in your garage space it would have an effect of absorbing some of the moisture? Dont know. Just an idea.
