I am a facebook friend of your wife and when she shared your channel, i was excited to check it out! I already loved the photos she posts so i figured "why not?" I told my mom if we didnt like the first video we didn't have to keep watching your channel. Needless to say, we've watched them all and are subscribed! You're a great speaker and your videos look professional. I'm glad you guys are enjoying retirement and sharing your journey with all of us.
Thank you so much for the kind words ♥️. I'm continuing to learn about RUclips and really enjoying the journey. I'm so glad you are enjoying it, that means a lot to me.
If you are a single Vet and did your 20 and have a pension? Don't even think about making any permanent home in the states. It just does not make sense. Even the Medical care plans cost more than what you can get overseas. So Cost is a big part of it. But the amount you can save every month as a single guy is out of this world. The real fun stuff is the people. You can't even begin to imagine just how many fun things there are to do. And you won't really have a problem finding people to help you or even wrangle your way to speak english. If you happen to love doing hobbies and building things, Asia, and even Eastern Europe is a great place to be. The real surprising part is that if you just want to live like the locals do? You will be hard pressed to spend much money at all after your initial setup to get things to your needs or western comforts you have become accustomed to. There are some places that have a high cost of electricity, but with solar panels? Most of these places are sun drenched. You really won't have an electricity bill if you install just a small solar system. (essential if you plan to be in the Philippines) So run your A/C all day or night, it won't be an issue. Even basic things like Laundry, you just take out to the Laundromat and have them do it for you and do the folding as I do that here in the states. You will do more laundry as your clothes will be drenched in sweat each day, but that's not really a problem. About the only strange thing is the cost of clothes. You pay about what they costs are here in the states if you order online. It's possible to get those deals IF you order online. Some folks talk about being lonely. I never had that problem, in fact quite the opposite.
You know someone is a good hearted person when they not only choose a home that is well suited for their dog, but also the money they spend to take care of dogs who have no family to love them.
YT just put this in my "suggested list". I haven't watched your other video's but I thought I'd comment on this one as cost of living is a "how long is a piece of string" topic amongst farangs for Thailand. So to give you an insight, I'm a 60 year old Brit living in Chiang Mai, I moved here 6 years ago (retired at 54 after getting made redundant), met a local woman and we've been married for about 5 years. No kids, no pets, no vices, we live a simple lifestyle. When I first moved here I was renting a small (31 sqm) furnished luxurious condo for 11,000 Baht/month in Mae Hia (south of the city). We moved into a rented house about 2 years later, just after covid hit, farangs were leaving Thailand in droves so property rental was cheap. The house was 135 sqm in a 390 sqm plot for 8000 Baht/month (unfurnished) in a MooBan in Hang Dong. There was a monthly fee that paid for CCTV, 24 hr security, rubbish collection and water, the fee was 600 Baht. It was a very well maintained MooBan with gardeners who kept everything neat and tidy. We would have happily stayed there but when we negotiated a new contract the rent increase was unrealistic so we started looking for somewhere else. We ended up buying a 115 sqm 3 bed, 2 bath house in a 375 sqm plot in Ban Tawai (next to Hang Dong). The house was a new build, with some hard cover for extra shade, 3 AC units, 3 extractor fans, and some other small things the price was 2,700,000 Baht (at 35 baht/USD that's about $77,000, at 45 Baht/pound that's 60,000 GBP). I don't know about the US but in the UK you couldn't buy a derelict property this size for 60,000 pounds. We are about 25 minutes (depending upon traffic) outside the city, we overlook a rice field at the rear, a small wooded area with a small lake at the front, and the area is very quiet, I'd suggest that prices could easily be 3-10 times higher in the UK. We run 2 cars (we got knocked off our Honda Click, minor injuries but I want to enjoy my retirement without injuries), have 2 phones (unlimited data), high speed internet (650+ MB/s), eat out at Thai places 2-3 times/week, don't really eat or buy western food, shop at fresh markets/Big C, use fans and AC when it's hot, but just fans in the winter, have a TV we don't use, and don't travel as much now as we used to (we're turning into "home birds"). So far this year we have not spent $600 (450 pounds)/month for everything. I'm not including visa costs etc, in that because they're one off payments once a year, much like tax & insurance on the cars. But I doubt all in it would add 25 pounds/$30/month. My budget when I was planning to move here was about 1,000 pounds/month, even when we were buying furniture, and have spent the last year creating our garden/outdoor space, I have never spent that kind of money. As I said getting made redundant was the final push for me to immigrate and move, but to anyone watching your video and wondering about immigrating here, I'll say this - don't overthink it, just go for it. Like having children, there is never a right time to commit to moving. You will always be able to find reasons not to do something, and with the benefit of hindsight regret not doing them. I have never had a single day (even during the 36 hours I had the most violent food poisoning, or when I was having gravel picked out of my leg after the motorcycle accident) when I have regretted moving here. My physical and mental health has improved, I have never been so content and I have never enjoyed my life as much as I do now. I have planted an additional garden (mostly trees) between my house and the small lake on what is essentially scrub land, every morning we have our breakfast and coffee looking out at the trees swaying, the birds getting their breakfast from the tree fruits, and listening to birdsong. I would regret losing a year of that to have stayed in the UK working for an extra year just so I could afford a slightly newer car, or an iPhone instead of an Android. Glad you're enjoying your life in Chiang Mai, and I'll be keeping an eye out for other videos you make.
Thank you for your story! I love how you spelled your journey out and how simple it can be if you let it. I agree with you, it's easy to overthink it . I did a lot of research and watched videos. I came over sight unseen and have no regrets
hi jaidee9570, congrats on everything. I am interested in finding my own plot of paradise outside of chiang mai. Would you be able to share some tips on how to find a place? Thank you
I'm enjoying your videos Fred, concise, well spoken, and great points. Quality of life in Thailand compared to the US is so much better, I can't wait till a couple more years pass and I retire there myself.
Not sure if you know, but when you burn propane it makes formaldehyde, so you really need to make sure to open the windows and get a breeze going when you cook with it.
Anywhere you live in Thailand it’s very easy to become friends with the restaurant that you go to or different shops that you go to. They get to know you and they’re very happy to see you and they like your money
Seen your interview on living abroad. Just subscribed. Great channel. Hopefully I will be there in the next 3 months. I am on VA pay of $1100 a month right now. Still trying to figure out remote work because I don’t have enough income for the retirement visa.
Thanks for checking out the channel. I apologize for the late response, I was doing some traveling back to the states. The , remote work can be tough. The only thing I can think of is teaching. However. my friend Peter over at Discovering Thailand has an interesting take on his budget, you can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/RXUW9737uTQ/видео.htmlsi=cZ-iqQlzCdRM8Wc7
Fred, I enjoyed your interview on the other channel. I also was a police officer for about 10 years domestically back in the states and one of the things that completely blows me away in Thailand is it’s literally almost crime free usually when there’s an economic structure like Thailand there’s a lot of people that are scrambling for money. There’s always a criminal element. I’ve been here for about a year now and I’ve never seen anyone that is suspicious to me and as you said, you get an extra set of eyes and situational awareness. It really is one of the most amazing things about this amazing place. I agree with everything you said.
Sorry for the late response, I was out of pocket. I absolutely agree. I'm sure there are some areas that you need to stay out of, but I feel like you have to be looking for trouble( street freelancers, drugs) to end up in the wrong place. I hope I get to meet you one day!
Hi Fred,so appreciate your video. Kind of you to open your home to us. Some of those expenses are amazing. I live in the Bay Area - so expensive here. It’s unreal.
Cheers mate, a very informative blog. You have a beautiful house and garden. It reminds of a house I built in Spain. It's so pleasing to see a couple just enjoying life.
One of my favorite things about this house is the outside area. The owner planted about a hundred things in the yard around us (teak, banana, papaya, mango, avocado, and flowering). Will have to do a similar video in the spring 🌱! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the tour and a specific breakout on your expense in Chiang Mai. This really gives a clear picture for those of us interested in these specifics. We are so excited to come to Thailand for a visit.
Very good vlog again Fred. Your costings are really helpful. Massive coincidence that we looked at the houses there and Somsak was really helpful. We’re also bringing our dog with us from the UK. Keep up the great work 👍
How ironic! Yeah we are very happy here and our dog Michonne gets me up about 2 am just to go check the yard, she loves it. Please stay in touch and keep me posted on how things are going.
Nice ! I saw you on another video stating why you moved to Chiang Mai. Had to check out your channel. I really like your house in the rural setting. My wife and I live in a small community in Arizona and we are over 65. Our finances are good but I think it would be nice to slow travel SE Asia as there are so many neat places to see and experience. Maybe someday I hope ! Take care and thank you for sharing. I will check out your other vids.
Thanks for sharing your itemized budget. That's a big help for me. Glad you guys are living your best life there. Now all I have to do is convince my gf to give Thailand a try. 🙂
Very interesting video. This didn't show up as a recommended video on RUclips. I actually found an article on Yahoo that pointed me here. Imagine that! I am a 63 year old retiree. I get SSI and a retirement annuity, net pay is about $2100 a month. I've always been curious about living abroad in my retirement years. Someone once tried to convince me to visit the Philippines, but I said no to that. I also seen and heard videos like this about living in Thailand, and I gotta admit I am intrigued. I guess the biggest concerns I have is how I would transfer funds from an American bank to one in Thailand and how medical coverage there works. The reason I ask about medical coverage is I have Long Covid, which is why I retired. I didn't have the strength to work anymore but I would be interested if they have clinics that could possibly treat that condition. Lastly, is there a support group or program who help expats migrate there and get set up. Thanks for your time. Oh, and PS, I am now subscribed to your channel!
Thanks for subscribing, I appreciate it. It will probably be challenging to get healthcare coverage, but not impossible with the Long COVID diagnosis. There are a lot of healthcare consultants to talk to that can walk you through the process. There are also expat groups that meet monthly and have guest speakers that deal with health care, finances, etc. Here is a link to my video on how I get money transferred over. Feel free to send me an email at farawayfred2023@gmail.com. ruclips.net/video/MhI80TuhUjc/видео.html
Thanks for sharing this Fred. Its just i needed as I had wondered what it would cost to live in Thailand. Lots of difference than in the US! And there is no way one can even measure the peace and quite that one gets from living there compared to here. 😊
I will have to get my passport renewed so I can visit Thailand, and look into retirement visas for different Countries but I like what I see so far. Love the yard space, good for making a garden and growing your own produce and herbs. Not to mentioned buying fresh chicken and meats locally without all the hormones and antibiotics because the animals are free to roam....farm to kitchen. Thank you for sharing this video, So informative!
Thank you so much. As I read your post all those things I'm experiencing. It's amazing when you see what's possible compared to what we are sold. Good luck on your journey!
Hello Fred. I am a Brit, 61 years old, with Thai wife and a 10 year old daughter. I now live in Bangkok but will soon build a house in Nong Khai on my wife's land. I really like your analysis. I will subscribe to your channel and follow you from now on, as I plan to retire in the next 12-18 months. Good luck, my new friend.
Hey Michael, Thank you so much, I appreciate it . Congratulations on getting started on your new home, that's great. Let me know if there is anything you want me to cover.
Nice budget summary. This is a kind of life I want when I retire in Thailand. Btw, I am Thai. I want to live close to the nature. Food, fruit and vegetables are fresh from a garden. I love how you end the video about financial freedom, not to worry about bills by the end of the month. 🙏
Thanks Fred and Dayna(sp) that was a very thorough budget and yes us farangs get great value for money, you are renting a lovely place suitable for you and your dog has plenty of yard to excercise, I look forward to further episodes. Getting emergency/critical insurance cover is wise👍🏿🥰☕️
Thanks for coming on board Paul! Yes , we just finished talking with an insurance broker and in the process of finalizing our insurance. I've heard too many horror stories of people getting into accidents or cancer diagnosis without insurance, sad. Stay safe and I hope to see you in future episodes 😎☕
GREAT VIDEOS FRED! Thanks for sharing really love your style and content. We’re making the move soon too and can’t wait to be full time I. Thailand. Chris from US Army Garrison Humphreys South Korea
Thank you for your service, Fred. What part of the country were you a lieutenant at? My husband retired from law enforcement in Washington state. Your videos are great and super informative. Thanks for posting them!
Love your channel. By the way local ketchup is better than what comes from the west and very cheap. Keep em coming:-) another subscription towards your first 100,000
Hey Fred! Great video! I am a retired officer as well. I would love to move inba more relaxed and affordable environment. The thing that keeps me here is my elderly mother and my children. My daughter is an aspiring tennis pro. How is yhe tennis scene?
There is a Tennis presence here at some of the resorts here in Chiang Mai. But just like the rest of the world, Pickleball has become dominant here. It was tough leaving my mom. Fortunately I have siblings back home as well as her family to help out. Congratulations on your retirement from the job, there is no greater feeling than getting the stress off your back
Hi Fred , That’s a great budget . I am on the same journey but not in Thailand yet . I still have 2 boys in high school . So I still have a few years to go . But we plan on some vacations to Thailand in the mean time . Wish to well with the channel . Pete .
Thanks Pete, I think it's great you're looking ahead. It comes quickly. There are so many options as far as budgets. I'm adjusting as I move forward and find my sweet spot. Thanks for coming on board.
I’m so happy for you. I’m not mad at your entertainment budget. Mine is too ridiculous in the states. I’m loving that grocery expense you got going on. It would just be me so I’m thinking maybe $100 a month.
Just found your channel Fred. Wanted to point out that the hose on your propane looks like a water hose. I'm not an expert but in the US the hose is smaller and reinforced. -George
I have heard some stories that make my hair stand on end, so I'm happy you've had good experiences. And to me it's more than just saving money. I love the area, I have become friends with restaurants and shop owners and it's just very comfortable here.
Hi Fred, Thanks for the informative video. There are various IPTV services available here. Just use your VPN and no worries. They run about $100 a year for tons of sports, news, and movies. I know several restaurants and shops that use them for their TV.
My Netflix family package cost around $15 and RUclips Premium around $9. I’m not sure why your package cost higher… may be different regional setting? (I’m Thai) For live sports, normally it comes with some internet provider package (AIS, True). They will give you a TV box which have special channel for those live sports.
Very nice Channel Fred.I just came back from Chaing Mia….loved it! I will keep following you for more info. I’m in a Condo right on the beach north of Rayong. Love listening to the surf at night. What will you do in the burning season?
Thank you, I will be headed to the beaches as well and possibly spend some time in Vietnam as well. Thanks for coming on board and following the channel 😊
Love your channel . Have been considering the move for years . 30 years in child welfare and did many investigations with the police. How do you come with the fire season and pollution.
My hats off to you. I've done many investigations with Child Protective Services, I really respect what you do. We stayed this burning season and it was tough. Next year we will head south to Hua Hin for a couple of months.
Thank you so much for your excellent, no nonsense video on the cost of living in Chiang Mai. You addressed some very important issues that other videos we’ve watched have ignored, and we appreciate how much you have shared. I do have one question- I have heard of the “smoke season” in the Chiang Mai area, I understand it runs from January to March approximately. How does this affect your life? (assuming it does). Anyway, I have given you a thumbs up and have also subscribed to your channel.
The smokey season is a major matter you need to consider. Most foreigners leave Chiang Mai during this period as it gets very bad. There are options like going to the South for this period to somewhere like Hua Hin, or travelling to another country in South East Asia. Travel in South East Asia is very cheap as there are low cost Airlines but if you suffer from Asthma or have breathing difficulties then you need to consider this seriously. You can use Air Purifiers which are cheap to run and then you would be best to stay inside as much as possible during this period if you stay in Chiang Mai.. This is the only matter that I consider as a con for Chiang Mai, everything else is a pro. You also need to be a tolerant person to fit in easily as it is not unusual for Thai people to not turn up for an appointment and not even advise you they are not coming now. This is the culture although I think it is improving a bit these days. If you are a person that demands customer service then you might find it very difficult to assimilate as you will not change the culture. After all you will be a foreigner here, and that will always be the case. I have lived here permanently for 12 years now. Hope this helps you😀
Thank you for the kind words. Yes the smokey season usually runs from February - Late April. It was tough on me in that it limited my outdoor activities and the air quality is horrible. Next year we will spend a couple of months at the beaches to escape 😎.
That's a great question. So far it has mainly been a lot of the food products that we are used to back home. I won't find Greens, Yellow squash. Beef is expensive here as well. But a lot of the food brands are hard to come by. I'm doing a mall video soon to show that pretty much everything else is available.
Hi, I just retired and will leave for Chiang Mai in 2 days. Yea ! Any suggestions on a agent to assist me in obtain a Thai bank account would be appreciated. I’m leaning towards doing the Non - O visa myself. That may change though. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you
Congratulations! There are a lot of visa agents out there. This is who I use and I'm pretty happy with them. Assist Thai Visa Service Chiang Mai 088 258 0139 g.co/kgs/PghzDDZ
Do you do most shopping locally or do you go into Chiang Mai (how far)?. Over the years our city, small - but not a village, has added Tesco, Big C, and a Makro. We get everything we need easily, though we pretty much eat Thai all the time. I hope you continue to enjoy the country. Moving based only on research is a leap. I’ll check your videos to see if you tell about how you chose your particular location.
Our location was chosen mostly based on bringing our dog over from America. However it worked out that we love the Doi Saket area. We have a big yard and lots of small restaurants as well as an Italian , Swiss and a restaurant with German fare. I would say 80 % of our food is Thai We travel about 25 minutes to Big C for or Rimping for a taste of some things we may miss from home.
Hello Fred, were you able to figure out a better solution for NFL/CFB games. I am a huge SEC football fan and also need to find something as the season is kicking off today! Thanks!
Hey Will, I ended up keeping Sling Tv. However I only activate it from August- January but still a big savings compared to year around. I also use Surfshark as my VPN.
It costs my mother $8,700 per month for memory care in the USA. Long-term care reimburses $5,600. This place in Chiang Mai is far superior to the care she currently receives. The big obstacle is the transportation from the US. She’s wheel chair bound and would require continence care.
I know many airlines do a great job of transporting those with needs throughout the airport to their transportation. The facilities here do a great job with those who are not ambulatory as well.
Hey there,I put an ad out on one of the local Facebook groups, I think Chaing Mai Expats. I put a picture of my dog and what I was looking for and the landlord reached out to me.
Good Morning, initially you can apply for a 60 day visa prior to entering the country, from there you can apply for an additional 30 days at immigration. However things change on a regular basis over here.
We have been going through the Retirement Visa process and we are wrapping it up here around the 19th of this month. I'll have a video out around the first week in February.
Very informative Fred, it’s amazing how inexpensive some things are. However I think I’m gonna need a photo of your feet to verify your statement on the toenail color. 😂😂 just kidding love your videos!!
Thank you, I am renting, it is my understanding that if you are not a Thai citizen or married to one you cannot own a home unless through an LLC, and that is a cash purchase. I will try and find a professional to explain the ends and outs of the process.
Wow, $522.03 for your house with All that property, unbelievable! The living expenses there are unmatched compared to over here in the States. Makes me want to relocate to Bangkok or somewhere near. Awesome!
@@farawayfred802I like a mixture of both. I'm a Holistic health and Wellness Coach so I love the country like feel for gardening and being out in nature. However, I do like city life as well, not the clubbing, though at 56..lol. Do you know any realtors in that area and or Bangkok? I will have to get with you and wife for info...
Health insurance is definitely one of the hardest things to navigate here as you get older. I see on some of the Facebook groups that many people self- ensure.
Hey Fred, my Thai wife and I are considering retiring in Chiang Mai in two years time. It looks like we would have an income of 65,000B/month at our disposal at that time. I have had some angst as to whether this would be enough to support us both. However, your video was really good as you are stating here you are coming in just on 48,946B. We aspire to a fairly simple lifestyle. Just one consideration though - I noticed in your more recent videos that you now have a car. Also, you and your spouse Dana now have comprehensive medical insurance. So, I am just wondering how these additional expenses would add to the budget outlined here in your video. Is there much of a difference? Might be an opportunity here for you to do an updated budget video!
Thanks for stopping in. I will do an updated budget. The insurance and fuel for the vehicles probably adds an additional 12,000 baht to the original budget. Living a simple life will make it easier. The fixed expense such as housing has such a wide range that it will give you flexibility in your budget.
Fred, you’re paying way too much I rent a newer three bedroom three bath two-story house in a move on with a guarded gate and I’m paying 16,000 a month. My electric bill was 500 that it includes free true TV and the real fast Internet included water is included. Maintenance is included, and all I pay for is the electric Massages. I go to a government massage place if you get there at 8:30 in the morning they charge you 140 per hour really good massages. I see a lot of things that you listed on your list you’re overpaying anyways I guess for newcomers that’s expected and what you pay your Visa Guy, which is called your 90 day report my 90 day report an average takes me less than 5 to 10 minutes total It’s just one little sheet of paper you’re in and out there in less than five or 10 minutes I’m on a retirement visa and I’ve been here for many years. A lot of your stuff you’re overpaying. I know it seems cheap because you’re coming from America but a lot of your stuff that I saw wow, you’re really overpaying too much anyways enjoy Thailand. I’m not sure where you live. I live about 15 minutes away from Central Flestival shopping center
Thank you, I appreciate it. I live out in Doi Saket near the Dam. It was really difficult finding a home that would accept a dog my size. I will check out other places later. Thank you.
You're right, there is cheaper. But I think the yard, the location and the landlord makes it worth it. He has been there when we needed something interpreted over the phone, help us navigate a lot of situations since we've been here. He has also saved us money in some purchases.
@@bobbybayls30 , Thanks, If I'm reading this right, that covers the rent only. That fluctuates with the baht conversion. One month that equaled $ 485.00
@@farawayfred802 ok thank you mate you did interpret it right, you’ll be speaking Australian in no time 😀 🦘. I have seen a few more videos and looks like you are both foreign nationals. That explains the costs. My wife is Thai and we (she) has a house in Thailand where we go to holiday and her mum and little nephew live there full time. So our running costs are much lower without rent, but other utilities like power and internet and the other costs you mentioned are much like yours. Good luck with the channel, wishing you much success and happiness over there.

It will be here before you know it. Keep me updated please!
Not sure if you know, but when you burn propane it makes formaldehyde, so you really need to make sure to open the windows and get a breeze going when you cook with it.
Yes, I did some research on that, I appreciate it.
However. my friend Peter over at Discovering Thailand has an interesting take on his budget, you can check it out here:

Incredibly detailed and down to earth. Keep up the great work Fred! Looking forward to seeing more of Chang Mai.
More to come! , and I truly appreciate you taking the time to watch.
You could get it Netflix and youtube in Thailand alot cheaper .
You have got a nice place there .
Thank you,
I was just looking into that, as well as Amazon Prime is only 149 Baht a month.
I wanted to say thank you so much for this. All of this information was incredibly helpful! ❤️
You are so welcome!, and thank you so much for following.
Yeah, I live about 10 minutes before Doi Saket
And there are many places that will accept large animals like dogs
I will definitely look around. Our location and landlord is great. I've read a lot of horror stories about landlords here so I'm cautious.
Hi Fred,so appreciate your video. Kind of you to open your home to us. Some of those expenses are amazing. I live in the Bay Area - so expensive here. It’s unreal.
Thank you,
I'm still amazed everyday with the quality of life available over here♥️
Fred.. it's Vic Koester here and my wife Jess and I love how you guys are living your lives. You guys rock. We will keep watching!
Hey,
Thanks Vic, I greatly appreciate it. It's always good hearing from you.
Cheers mate, a very informative blog. You have a beautiful house and garden. It reminds of a house I built in Spain. It's so pleasing to see a couple just enjoying life.
Thank you, I appreciate it. Every morning I walk out the door it puts a smile on my face.
Thank you, I greatly appreciate it.
Your good people. The top of our house hunt is our dog's. We are truly under the paw🐾
Thank you! We are so glad we brought her with us. She truly lives it over here.
Good afternoon Dana
Thank you for watching! We have friends that spend 6 months in the states and 6 months here.
Great episode Cuz!! You just fueled my hopes for retirement by 55. 🤔 💭”Sell most, if not everything, cash out and move east.”
Yes sir!! There are a lot of options out here to check out! Keep your eyes on the prize, I hope to see you over here for a visit.
Great stuff. Happy I found your channel.
Thanks for checking it out. I appreciate it.
good vid !
Great video Fred! I can vouch these numbers are true! Thailand is a amazing place 👍
Thank you Henry!, A year later I'm still in disbelief.
Thanks for sharing your itemized budget. That's a big help for me. Glad you guys are living your best life there. Now all I have to do is convince my gf to give Thailand a try. 🙂
I will get her on a zoom call with my wife😁

Thanks for sharing this Fred. Its just i needed as I had wondered what it would cost to live in Thailand. Lots of difference than in the US! And there is no way one can even measure the peace and quite that one gets from living there compared to here. 😊
Well put, I agree 100%. The cost of living opens you up to truly focus on what's important.
Hey Michael,
Thank you so much, I appreciate it .
Thank you,
I truly believe that life is about living it fully with the people you love and the least amount of stress.
@@farawayfred802 👍👍👍👍
Thailand.

Great common sense cost of living video!
Thank you sir!
Thank you for your service, Fred. What part of the country were you a lieutenant at? My husband retired from law enforcement in Washington state. Your videos are great and super informative. Thanks for posting them!
Thank you so much. I retired from Lake County, Florida. I retired as one of their public information officers.
Love your channel. By the way local ketchup is better than what comes from the west and very cheap. Keep em coming:-) another subscription towards your first 100,000
Thank you so much!! You are right, I just tried it this morning on. a sandwich 😁
Congratulations on your retirement from the job, there is no greater feeling than getting the stress off your back
This is a great breakdown and it’s very accurate can’t wait to get there and live the dream they health care there is top notch
Thank you, I just purchased my healthcare plan and am very happy with it. I'll have a video on it coming up soon!
Hi Fred ,
That’s a great budget . I am on the same journey but not in Thailand yet . I still have 2 boys in high school . So I still have a few years to go . But we plan on some vacations to Thailand in the mean time . Wish to well with the channel . Pete .
Thanks Pete,
I think it's great you're looking ahead.
Yes,
especially with the market and the inexpensive food to eat out, you would thrive Brother!
Just found your channel Fred. Wanted to point out that the hose on your propane looks like a water hose. I'm not an expert but in the US the hose is smaller and reinforced. -George
Thanks George,
I appreciate you jumping in on the channel. I will have someone take a look at the hose. One can never be too careful.
Thanks for joining the channel. I will have someone take a look at that hose, thanks for pointing it out, I appreciate it.
I have never had one problem with any of the landlords I’ve ever rented from. I always got my full deposit back.
I have heard some stories that make my hair stand on end, so I'm happy you've had good experiences. And to me it's more than just saving money. I love the area, I have become friends with restaurants and shop owners and it's just very comfortable here.
Thank you for the valuable information! Great video.
Thank you for taking the time to watch, I truly appreciate it.
Great ! Very interesting
Hi Fred, Thanks for the informative video. There are various IPTV services available here. Just use your VPN and no worries. They run about $100 a year for tons of sports, news, and movies. I know several restaurants and shops that use them for their TV.
Thank you, I will definitely look into it!
Thanks u for the vlog. Great information. I’m a new subscriber and binge watching all your vlogs. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much! Welcome to the channel 😎
Great video Fred, have subscribed to your channel.

My Netflix family package cost around $15 and RUclips Premium around $9. I’m not sure why your package cost higher… may be different regional setting? (I’m Thai)
For live sports, normally it comes with some internet provider package (AIS, True). They will give you a TV box which have special channel for those live sports.
Wow! Thank you, I will definitely look into it. I greatly appreciate it.
Very nice Channel Fred.I just came back from Chaing Mia….loved it! I will keep following you for more info. I’m in a Condo right on the beach north of Rayong. Love listening to the surf at night. What will you do in the burning season?

Videos are getting better n better 😊. So far, What can't you get there the states have and they don't?
That's a great question. So far it has mainly been a lot of the food products that we are used to back home. I won't find Greens, Yellow squash. Beef is expensive here as well. But a lot of the food brands are hard to come by. I'm doing a mall video soon to show that pretty much everything else is available.
If we need to send a care package lemme know 😊 @farawayfred802

I would say 80 % of our food is Thai
We travel about 25 minutes to Big C for or Rimping for a taste of some things we may miss from home.

Hello Fred, were you able to figure out a better solution for NFL/CFB games. I am a huge SEC football fan and also need to find something as the season is kicking off today! Thanks!
Hey Will,
I ended up keeping Sling Tv. However I only activate it from August- January but still a big savings compared to year around. I also use Surfshark as my VPN.
Great job. Is this facility in operation.? If so where are people? If not then when will it become operational?
It is in operation. I filmed at around 1 pm which is probably the hottest part of the day. The residents usually head back to their rooms after lunch.
Thank you for sharing this video. I just have one question as you know I smoke cigars. Are cigars easy to get in Thailand?
I haven't had the chance to check it out, but I'm sure there is. I will be in the town center on Sunday and will do some recon.
Really price property for Chiang Mai. How did you find it? I need to move myself sometime in the near future.
Hey there,I put an ad out on one of the local Facebook groups, I think Chaing Mai Expats. I put a picture of my dog and what I was looking for and the landlord reached out to me.
Hi Fred how long can US citizens stay in Thailand?
Good Morning,
initially you can apply for a 60 day visa prior to entering the country, from there you can apply for an additional 30 days at immigration. However things change on a regular basis over here.
@@farawayfred802 so only 90 days max?

Thank you.
18,000 per month? Expensive.. you can find it cheaper.
You're right, there is cheaper. But I think the yard, the location and the landlord makes it worth it. He has been there when we needed something interpreted over the phone, help us navigate a lot of situations since we've been here. He has also saved us money in some purchases.
Let them paint your nails next time 😂
🤣
What are the constituent parts of the $522.03 house cost per month? BTW Great video
@@bobbybayls30 ,
Thanks, If I'm reading this right, that covers the rent only.
