As a Max fan, I can say its 100% his fault. Had he waited to get past that turn without an incident like this, the win was bound to be his since the 5s track limit was going to apply for Norris.

@@akhila2521 Good point there. Had missed that one. Max needs to introspect about his temperament in such situation when number of things. I think this is the first time so many things went wrong for him. The pit stop didnt go his way. McLaren being extremely competitive on one of Max's most successful tracks and then you have Checo, who is barely in the fight or support unlike Oscar. Seeing his race interview, I think he knows he is in the wrong. I love the rivalry but not at the cost of them becoming like Ham/Nico.

After the sketchy defensive moves by Max and the Marshalls not stepping in (to at least look and make a call either way) I was telling my wife Lando had no choice now but to make a legal move and let Verstappen either provide space or hit him. and Force the marshalls to make a call or potentially be cheated/officiated out of a race. Hated seeing it happen a lap or two later, but it's a reality in sport: if the refs don't weigh in during line-toeing dangerous play/driving, they'll be forced to after an injury/crash.

  • @Dyils
    @Dyils 2 дня назад +63

As a Max fan, it was definitely on Max. Here's my interpretation - Lando didn't put 2 left wheels on the kerbs. Max thought he would because that opens the corner up more so you can have a better exit. Essentially, Lando was more to the right than Max expected and thus gave less space. So it's really just a bad judgement of where Lando is (remember Lando was on the left and it was a right corner, Max can't keep staring at his left mirror so this was a gut feeling thing he had to do and his feeling was wrong). It's really not as big of a deal as some people try to make it out to be... some people are saying he intentionally hit him... ridiculous. Just made a bad judgement about Lando's position and accidentally banged wheels. Nothing we haven't seen from many other drivers before.

Best comment here. I think you are right, he is trying to unbalance the car in order to pivot it fast and get traction at the exit. But he didn't consider (wrongly) that Norris would be there. Anyway, I think Max before was at the limit of waving, and Lando was at the limit of bombing (again). Unfortunate outcome for both, worst for Lando. But it's good to see Max being pressured enough to start making mistakes.

I have to agree here, I fail to see how this was clearly Max's fault so hard as everyone else sees it. It was clearly Max's corner and there was enough space for Lando on the outside, but that doesn't matter much anyway since it was 100% Max's corner, he doesn't need to leave space then. It's Lando's fault for being in a dumb spot when he is behind before the apex.

Lando squeezed Max more on previous race. Max still just went even wider. Its simple.
Lando could of done the same. And totally avoided the incident.
He seemed too hot generally on those laps, both of them did. And in the end, nothing wrong with that either. Just that sometimes these battles make for the greatest moments, other times they are incidents.

Verstappen was at fault for the contact causing the punctures, but I get so annoyed when people like Norris will dive-bomb a corner and basically impede or run off the driver and have the nerve to say they were ahead in the corner. No Norris, you were .5 seconds on every divebomb and went straight instead of turning right. And the 5 second penalty for track limits should've been handed to him immediately, what was there to discuss? Norris already had the black and white flag and clearly missed the corner, went off track, gained an advantage and took the lead. It doesn't matter if he gained the position back, it's a slam dunk penalty.

I'll have to agree with the others, lando was just doing what max does usually. As people say a lot Hard racing, they both pushed each other off track, lando seemingly wants all the blame on verstappen, which is fair for the incident that destroyed the race. The rest of the fight was hard, and both drove over the limit, lando sent some very late dives, and the last move on the outside is a recipe for issues, he probably was thinking about pulling a switch back on max, when max goes to the outside kerb, but max moved he's car to lando which was a mistake. In the end even if they didn't collide, max could've locked up doing that move if he was under brake, i know you can turn while trail braking, but it's still a risk, especially when having someone next to you, while being off the racing line. Sadly that's max's fault, lando could've been more patient and waited for a better opportunity, but he might have thought about a possible penalty, and tires going off, so he went for it.
Btw this is the conclusion from just the highlights, there's probably more to it than that
I rewatched the highlights and im already doubting what i said. Just leave it up to the stewards since we don't know much at all

When first watching this incident you think that it's 100% on Max. However when looking at other examples in the past I don't think it's as clear cut as it at first appears to be. First of all nobody complained about anything that didn't cause damage (duh), but the only thing that Max did when they crashed was squeezing Lando. That obviously can be a dangerous game but in previous examples such as Verstappen vs Sainz 2023 at Austria or Lando vs Max at the start of this year's Spanish GP Max was the party that moved in order to avoid the squeeze. In those cases nobody got a penalty because nothing happend, in this case Max is villainized and got a penalty because it ended in a collision.

    • @vPzWalkerx
      @vPzWalkerx День назад

Max is factually at fault. Whether other drivers have driven off track to avoid it or the FIA was inconsistent with decisions in the past is irrelevant. Max is REQUIRED to leave a cars width once Lando gets that line and he factually didn't. There can be debates over if both where dirty that race but on this specific incident its 100% Max's fault.

Well, both werent exactly clean. But its lack of experience fighting for wins that cost Norris this time. He was to eager, and Verstappen tried to make him getting another track limit. In wich he succeded btw. Norris locking up 4 wheels showed he wasnt thinking straight either. In the end, it's Norris that got hurt the most. Not only did he lose 10 points, he also will receive another penalty. What everybody seems to have forgotten, is dat Norris had a 5s timepenalty for tracklimits, to be served when entering the pits, or added to your racetime if you dont pit anymore. But Norris pitted within the race, and the crew started working right away. So its a penalty not served, wich usually ends up being penalized on the next gp with a 3 places grid penalty.

Max said after the race that:
In all circumstances, he never turns the wheel once he hits the brakes (in the context of turning plus braking at the same time).
He states he made a small trajectory correction to the left to cover off the dive bomb, then straightens the wheel, just before he applies brakes.
He says he is still braking in a straight line from the reference point of the car (which he seems very confident that he likely prove from telemetry), but now this trajectory is no longer parallel to the track.
Rules don't say anything about driving having to break parallel to the track lay out while defending.
He said he will look at other footage and reconsider his view, but until then, Max didnt feel he did anything wrong.

I am no Max fan, but Lando's first two attempts to pass were clearly aggressive dive bombs. For anyone trying to say they weren't, why is Lando locking up each time? That can't be argued against.
On the third attempt where there is contact, yes Max is defending and moving right to left, but his line is straight and started very early into the corner. There is no sudden jerk of the wheel or double move like so many drivers do. Lando also has a lot of space to move based on the line Max is taking. Sure, he doesn't WANT to move over, but this is defending in F1 today. Lot's of drivers try to take an aggressive line and force the attacking driver to go around. Again, there is space to be had and I don't get why Lando doesn't make a correction to avoid contact. During his previous two dive bombs, Max makes major corrections to avoid contact. When it was Lando's turn he just plainly doesn't.
The worst part of it all is that Lando had the clear pace advantage, but he is dripping with impatience instead of letting the opportunity come to him. He should have used the 1st of the double DRS zones to close in and then use the 2nd for the pass. Or, use the lap to be right up behind him going into the pit straight DRS zone. All three times, Lando goes for it in the first zone. I don't get it.
For me, Lando has his fare share of blame for the contact. I'd say it's 60/40 Max to blame. Max deserved the penalty because ultimately his 60% of blame resulted in a driver being knocked out of the race. But to hear Lando carry on after the race that he did nothing wrong, I hope that's just anger talking.
It's interesting to see that Lando has made some pretty regular mistakes in the last several races now that he and Max are going toe to toe. It reminds me of when Max was desperate to beat Lewis and would try wild throw it in passes forcing Lewis to avoid him. It's up to Lando now to reign it in and become as polished as Max has become. That's the difference between a great driver and a World Champion.

@@parthosarathimaxotek I can tell you feel strongly about this. So I watched the Peter Windsor video, I gave you the benefit of the doubt. He said clearly, Max broke the rules, he just doesn't agree with the rules. Then he also says Max didn't move to the left at all, and I'm sorry, but you can clearly see he did (braking or not) in all the replays in this video. Also Windsor clearly admits twice that Lando had fresh tires and Max did not have the pace and so of course Max would try to block, he's a competitor. I'm sorry but for 3 laps he was obviously doing everything he could to block. Windsor also says that if Max wanted to win he should have just let him by and used DRS to pass and he probably would have won anyways.
Finally he says he thinks the decision by the stewards is "probably ok".
Meanwhile Christian Horner said Max had his elbows out. That's really all I need to know.
Even most Max fans can admit he was to blame, it's super obvious that he could have easily driven that corner without blocking but he didn't try to do that. And final results are max #5, lando #20, so what exactly would be a result that would make you happy?

Max's fault at that specific incident, but I think you missed out the issue of the FIA yet again.
    - Why did it take 5 laps of this to figure out a 5 second time penalty for Norris when he went off the track. Either he did or did not, if that had been given earlier Max could factor that into the decision making
    - Why wasn't Max warned / reprimanded about moving under breaking, show him a black and white flag for unsportsmanlike behavior before it comes to this
    - Probably same b&w flag for Norris for all the divebombs he did
This is pretty much the FIA saying: yeah, nothing much has changed since 2021, just business as usual. If Max never sees / feels the issues with his driving behavior, and he's well within the RB / Jos Verstappen echo chamber, how is he ever going to learn? It's up to the FIA to be a lot quicker on the ball and act / warn before it comes to race ending collisions.

The collision was on Max, even if he only moved 10cm to the left and Lando had plenty of space on his side. But Lando was gaining advantages like crazy with offtracks, especially at least one into the first corner. Also, the dive bombs with pushing Max off the track where ridiculous. Lando got into that situation by chance due to the at least 4 seconds gained on the pitstop and even if he would had past, a five second penalty would had taken the win away from him. So, the question is: It's more Max's fault for moving a few inches under braking or Lando's for cheating the track to gain advantage, because he has nothing to lose with a 5 sec penalty and all to gain if he pulls away in front? This strategy of cheating the track was clearly studied before the race by McLaren. From this perspective, my blame is like 60 - 40% on Lando.
Edit: I'm gonna get alot of hate, but after watching the replay Max had no sudden move to the left. He had a clear line all the way under braking. Even if he squeezed Lando, he left plenty of space on the left - Lando turned on him or simply run out of space.
This was a minimal squeezing incident with high consequences not compared with the one in Catalunia when Lando pushed Max off the track in a much more dangerous way.

The collision was on Max, Lando penalty of 5 sec was also on Max who kept pushing him wide and off track.
Max also did not get a penalty for going off track and gaining a position, where Lando did on the lap before.
Max also Intentionally pushed Lando off track after the crash.
Both of them Pitted at the same time, and you know why?
Max was slower than Norris and the gap was getting smaller and smaller.
IF there was no error of RB side in the pitstop Lando would've catched him anyway within 5/6 laps before the end of the race.
In Spain , if you are referring to Lando closing on Max at the start of the race, that is exactly what Max keeps doing over and over, same as the Dive bomb.
Stop using 2 different measurement for the same thing, just because it suits your tought.
Stop trying to defend Max by just giving him the "Fault" for the touch, when Max is known to be an idiot when defending.
He almost killed Hamilton back in 2021 in Monza and did not even care to check how he was after the crash.
This is gonna set a new standard for him from next race, i expect Norris to treat Max the same way,

Can you please explain what is the difference is between drifting out through a very fast corner & changing direction?
    1) As most F1 fans know, all drivers must focus on the turn coming up, once they pass their breaking point into the corner. At that breaking point, Lando was hidden behind Max, so Max was clearly focused on taking the turn.
    2) A slow motion analysis of the video, clearly shows that Max drifted out, following the racing line, while Lando deliberately tries to dive bomb Max, by taking the long way around Max!!
Based on the fact that Max obviously did not know that Lando was ignoring the gap he provided on the inside and was dangerously to trying to 'dive bomb' Max, on the outside, Lando was clearly at fault.

Max is moving left but that is the line...he also left just enough room for Lando...he needed to take a bit of curb.
