The stock tire carrier on your JK leaves a lot to be desired. It doesn't guard against damage to the tailgate if you're off-roading, plus upgrading to larger tires makes it unusable. That's where this Pivot HD Tire Carrier from Smittybilt comes in.
This tire carrier can hold up to 37-inch tires, so it's great for lifted rigs. A mount for your third brake light is included, which extends above any large tire you're mounted.
One of the biggest advantages of this tire carrier is you can install whatever bumper you want, because it's completely independent. Opening and closing the tailgate is easier, as well.
You can install this tire carrier on any 2007-2017 Wrangler JK.
The tire carrier itself is made of cast aluminum, making it strong but lightweight. The mounting brackets are made of forged chrome, and replace the factory tailgate hinges.
Installation is simple, with no drilling involved. You do need to remove the factory spare tire mount, plus the tailgate hinges and third brake light. Then you bolt the new carrier in place, and install the brake light. It should take 2-3 hours.
