I have 2 Taiwanese friends. Popular band members in the 1990s. I met them in Taiwan this year. They mentioned that the educational system remove Taiwan's historical connection to Chinese dynasties. This is how deep the DDP will go to severe Taiwan's ties to the mainland.
Heres how desperate things are right now. 2 weeks ago when Andy Lau, HK singer, went to perform in Taiwan and he was criticized by the DPP for spreading chinese propaganda by singing a song called Chinese people. Funny enough there was so much backlash from netizens to call out the ignorance. The song was written and directed by a taiwanese back in 1996. This song was specifically made for the hand over of HK from the british by Taiwan!
They did that with Hong Kong too. People can only rely on source outside of educational system to learn their own history. There were riots, injustice and corruption done to the HK people under the Brit's rules.
@ftu2021 Wow. I am dumb-founded on how identity and historical link was being erased. I was in Taiwan during that concert which was delayed by typhoon. Stayed at a hotel near the stadium. Look how these people become low for wanting to detach from history and China.
Propaganda is a very strong & effective mechanism that imperialists use to sever a people from their historical roots & facts. This has worked well in Taiwan, HK and Africa. Carried out for over 70 years it becomes an even bigger behemoth to attempt to dismantle..it is possible but it takes a vigorous revolutionary change to the current systems in place like Education, political systems, media networks etc....there is hope b/c look at the Sahelian States....they are slowly dismantling the propagandistic imperialist networks channeling Chairman Mao and the Chinese cultural revolution of 1949. Taiwan will eventually come around as well. Chinese strategic patience will ensure this. God bless the CPC and may one China and reunification be nigh! :)
In addition to the USA viewing Taiwan as a giant military base, they also view Taiwanese people as potential soldiers for the US inevitable war against China.

About 14% of Taiwanese people call themselves Chinese, and those who deeply believe they have nothing to do with the mainland are around 20%, meaning when the PLA one day lands in Taiwan, those who are sitting on the fence will switch to accept Beijing, after all this is a civil war.

I’m an American, retired military officer, a conservative and I agree with you 100%. So many people here cannot see reality beyond their own brainwashing. I mean seriously, we almost went to war with the USSR over a few missiles in Cuba, not even having close a history to the US as Taiwan has to China. Taiwan has always belonged to China and always will and if I was Chinese I’d want to take it back asap. I’m sure the US politicians and most Americans would feel the same if the tables were reversed.
Taiwan is a province of China. The constitution of the government, which is now administrating Taiwan, clearly stipulated that Taiwan is part of China.
@@robinali6903 It's not even the Taiwanese people that determine it. Crimea & the Donbass both voted to secede from Ukraine but the world didn't acknowledge it. Not that it matters because Taiwan has never voted for independence.

until the late 80s, the Taiwan Island was an important military base for US to invade mainland China, the island most famous slogan during that era was "counterattack and recapture the mainland", even until today Taiwan's constitution itself still stated clearly Taiwan is a province of China.
The Cuba comparison isn't good when you think it through. Cuba isn't a part of the U.S., Taiwan is a part of China. The USSR had every right to move missiles and soldiers there to protect Cuba from the U.S. and counter the missiles the U.S. had in Turkey.
Amanda and KJ, Google Maps has finally changed. Google Maps shows Taiwan as Chinese territory and labels it as Taiwan Province now. The trend of history is certainly irreversible. 😅

The premium Semi-conductive company of Taiwan was actually initiated, supported and finally built by the Chinese government/Rep. of China who moved to the island after 1945, mostly in 1949; even its founder and the soul of TSMC, Morris Chang was grown up in China and didn't until 19. But after 30 years when it reaches top of the world, the incumbent pro-session DPP party touted it as its own and used it as a bait to lure U.S. to support its agenda and became its ally to counter China in the name of democracy, despite it rules like a dictator, controlling the news media and justice system, secretly persecuting its citizens who want to unite with motherland China as traitors.
How does the US government legally get around selling weapons to Taiwan? The official diplomatic stance is that Taiwan is the PRC so how can any deals like that even be possible on paper? I know that the US flaunts international law all the time, but such deals like that are not even legal per US law.
Bombama's terminology of "pivot" (to China) is really more accurately "spigot" (as in opening the U.S. Treasury for MIC and other profiteers of "the business") of war-making.
Taiwan Relations Act which was created at the same time as the One China Policy is an agreement that the US commit to help defend Taiwan as shown below: "the United States shall provide Taiwan with arms of a defensive character and shall maintain the capacity of the United States to resist any resort to force or other forms of coercion that would jeopardize the security, or social or economic system, of the people of Taiwan."

It is because Taiwan is part of China, not part of PRC. It has its own government although it is not a country. That government chooses to buy weapon from America.
For any US citizens or government officials to think that Taiwan is an unsinkable carrier, they’re truly still living in the past or simply living in denial in a different world today. What can the unsinkable carrier do when the supply lines are blockage? The days where this impossibility has been nibbed away. Taiwan must be reunified with China for two reasons: 1. The credibility of the united nations where the great majority of the world including the usa have acknowledged the one china policy and Taiwan belongs to China. 2. The idea of unity of China has been borne since the time of the great grandfather of the first emperor Qin Shi Huang more than 2200 years ago.Taiwan cannot be an independent country since the people are basically Chinese from the mainland and the island belongs to China since the ancient time. Allowing Taiwan to be independent is equavalent to breaking the unity of china apart. It is just unimaginable and against the spirit of the unity of China.
Firstly, just because Taiwan may not legally be recognized as a state does not automatically hand sovereignty of the island to the PRC. There are no internationally recognised treaties, policies or UN resolutions that state that Taiwan is part of China. Also, historically, China has had minimal control over the island of Taiwan, I will explain further below. Now some facts about Taiwan: 1: The island now known as Taiwan was inhabited and ruled by the aborigines for approximately 30,000 years. 2: When the Dutch arrived in 1626 most of the population of Formosa were the Yuanzhumin or Gaoshan people (who have no DNA link back to China) 3: The Qing had minimal control of Taiwan in fact the Qing only managed to rule less than 20% of the island while the aborigines ruled and controlled over 80% of the island. The Qing created a border in 1750 with rocks which was called the Tu Niu Red Line. The Japanese were the first country to colonise Formosa and create roads and infrastructure.. 4: Due to the lack of control, the Qing did not declare Formosa a Province of the Qing until 1895 as the Japanese was encroaching on the island. The island was handed to Japan soon after. 5: Over the past 400 years the island has been partially ruled by 5 different governments but it was only the Japanese and ROC who had full control of the entire island. 6: Historically the CCP recognized Formosan independence. In 1936, when the Republic of China (ROC) was China’s government and Taiwan (Formosa) was a Japanese colony, Chairman Mao Zedong offered support to Korea and Formosa if their peoples wished to gain independence from Japan. Mao’s internationalist position suggested that 1) both Korea and Formosa have a right to independence, and 2) this is based on the right to self-determination. Mao did not claim that Taiwan has been an integral part of China. (look up Edgar Snow interview)) 7: The Cairo Declaration 1943 discussed the possibility of handing the island of Taiwan to the ROC. This discussion required a treaty to become official and was never implemented. 8: The PRC constitution was formed in 1949 yet Taiwan was not added to it until 1978. 9: The ROC were granted a caretaker role of Formosa after WW2 but when the ROC escaped to the island it still legally belonged to Japan. 10: When Japan relinquished its sovereignty of Taiwan with The Treaty of San Francisco after the ROC invaded the Japanese island, China was not even invited. The treaty was signed by 49 nations but both the ROC and CCP were NOT present. 11: The One China Policy, Un Resolution 2758 or the Treaty of San Francisco do not declare that Taiwan is a province of China. There are no internationally recognized treaties, policies or UN resolutions that state that Taiwan is part of China. The only legal way that Taiwan can amalgamate with China is if they agree to a treaty ceding their sovereignty. Whether Taiwan is considered a country or not does not automatically grant China with sovereignty of the region.

Loved your point about the statistically poor argument of "listen to the Taiwanese people." The vast majority either want to maintain the status quo or reunify with China, while only a vocal minority single digit percentage, want a sharp independence declaration -- an independence, like you said, that is ONLY independence from China, not full, autonomous independence. The DPP's "independence" is absolutely just becoming a US vassal and military base for aggression against China.

It is very true that the US strategically backs separatist forces when it suits their interests. They’ve illegally overthrown countless regimes around the world, all while declaring themselves the “beacon of freedom”. But this does not mean that Taiwanese people are eager for reunification with China and held back solely by Americans fomenting separatism. Two things can be true at the same time. After having de-facto independence for 70 plus years, Taiwanese people have developed their own social, cultural, economic, and political identity that they do not want to lose. They choose not to declare independence in order to avoid war, not because they don’t desire self-determination. If China wants peaceful reunification, it must offer some form of true political autonomy (HK-style “autonomy” won’t cut it)
Exactly same tactic used by the US in Ukraine & Taiwan. Both were used to fight Russia & China. We all can see the results of war in Ukraine. Taiwanese, don't let the same happen in your country.
In a 1972 joint communiqué with the PRC, the United States "acknowledges that all Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China" and "does not challenge that position." It reaffirms the U.S. interest in a peaceful settlement of the Taiwan question.
There were three communiques. The final 1982 communique states: " Government of the United States of America acknowledges the Chinese position that there is but one China and Taiwan is part of China." This statement does not declare that the US agrees with China's position it simply acknowledges or recognizes ambitions. The US position on Taiwan is not mentioned.
@ More US warmongering ? 7-8 micro nations officially recognize Taiwan ! One China policy 1972 signed by Truman and still on the state dept website ! 98% of the world accept Taiwan is Chinese
With the surrounding of China by the US and continuous provocations by the US, China is very very patience. But, patience have limits. Just don’t use Taiwan as a proxy like Ukraine, as China and Taiwan are bonded in blood. The Philippines is a different story.
IMO this is between the Taiwanese and Chinese people. They clearly have legitimate reasons for not wanting to be part of the CPC, it can’t all be just “muh America bad”, even tho America is indeed bad and plays a part for sure. They are a people who are able to decide their own destiny, and they’ve chosen to diverge from the mainland. I have an idyllic hope war will not come of this, but China has already declared its policy on Taiwan and if there’s one think I can understand about Chinese politics, appearances and maintaining face is very important, and they will lose face and be humiliated geopolitically if they don’t press the point of Taiwan being part of China, and diplomacy will only go so far and last so long before material and political conditions make war over the island more preferable to peace without it. That moment may come soon.
It’s 36,193 sq kilometers of land out of 9.6 million sq kilometers. 24 million people out of 1.4 billion. Taiwan doesn’t even put a noticeable dent in these numbers. I hope the CCP will never reach the levels of foolhardiness that US has exhibited for the past 100 years. Bc that invasion just sounds like some kind of disaster war the US would wage. They would end the world being the very thing they despise and disparage in the USA.

For those who don't know: Taiwan is actually just the name of the Island(s) Technically, the country with this flag 🇹🇼 is also called China. Specifically, the Republic of China It's just that most people call the RoC Taiwan because that's the territory it controls.
Taiwan was ceded to Japan after the Sins Japanese war in 1900s. It was returned to China at the end of WWII. The losing KMT retreated to Taiwan after it lost the civil wzr in 1949. Then the west intervened and shielded its from the advancing CPC. Then armed and financed its survival to 6se as a barrier and blockading carrier. Its an interrupted civil war. Its this simple. One way to resolve this conflict peacefully is for the US and Japan to offer citizenship to those who do not wish to be part of China. They are free to go even if this means the population is halved. More dignity this way than be forced to leave as boat refugees!
I wanted to say the same. For those who choose to leave and go to US/JP but don’t ever call yourself Chinese or claim any traditions. Cut off all links to your past and start anew as US/JP. Same thing Britain offered to HK, everyone’s happy.
Thats not overlooking problems in china itself, because it has changed and because it realises that economic survival is whats involved. China mainland has become Machiavellic and broken proper and reasonable policies in many ways.
It all goes back to civil war between Komintang and peasant rebel CPC : businessmen threatened to cease support in all ways of Chang Ke Check should he not turn against MaoZeDong . It is striking and encouraging how China influences its population in a constructive and intelligent way to let social life take place in a safe, responsible way. This admirable involvement is the basis for a healthy society. Americans are still in a primitive state in this, they have Disneyland, Hollywood and fast, fast, faster then fast food to educate their people. To go to Starbucks after their successful day....
If both sides of leader in PRC and ROC can sit down and discuss this matter for the sake of both Chinese, this matter will be solved immediately. The unfortunate reality is will the USA allow that.
And that was what they did between 2008 and 2016 .. called the golden era of Taiwan China relationship! They even signed bilateral agreements between Xi and Ma. Guess what happened when the two became close? Student Revolution and Protest ... just like the Maidan protest .. which led to a regime change. After DPP took over, they, cut all ties and communication with China .. and tore up all the bilateral agreements. Everyone knows the US is behind this.
The Kuomintang fought the communist because they don't want to be in their control, that's why Taiwan is free,.Do you think Taiwan will give up their freedom easily.
In addition Taiwan economic progress is another perceived loss for US imperialism should Taiwan become properly re adjusted. The right of people for self-determination ( lenin) should clarify this US imperialism hegemony
@@denisross2923 You are right but…..unfortunately, the reality has changed. Today’s not the Qin dynasty, the weak and corrupted government they are facing. Please forgive me for asking questions out of ignorance i just want to better understand. I believe in the self determination, and independence of people so from my understanding if Taiwanese people want to be independent they have every right to be. Here's my question if Taiwan, peacefully becomes a china province, do they still get to be called Taiwan, and Taiwanese? I'm sorry i know that's a dumb question i guess for some reason i thought Taiwan becoming a part of china they'd lose their Taiwanese identity, and culture. But they wouldn't right? They'd just be a part of china, but still be called Taiwan, speak Taiwanese, and have their traditions, and cultures right? It was hearing the phrase Taiwan is a Chinese province, that made me question what i thought i knew. Especially after learning in the video that if Taiwan does become a china province they can still apply to be independent. Would Taiwan still be able to make really cool art like that Taiwanese game company Red Candle with theur games Devotion, & Detention? The first Taiwanese horror film i ever saw was Incantation, and it was really good film. I also saw The Sadness, which was a crazy film. Anyways would they still be able to have the freedom to make art like those games, and films? Ultimately I've been learning a lot about US foreign affairs this year, and as an American i see my country as the world's terrorist, and i hope to see the fall of the US imperialist empire, and fall of the US dollar dominance. I learned so much from the China Report, about BRICS, and the Belt Road Initiative, i really hope they're both successful as they'd be great for other countries to be able to trade amongst each other without going through the US, and the US dollar. Anyways, the way i been thinking about Taiwan, is seeing the US using it as a proxy state against China, just like how Israel is a proxy state to continue stealing oil from the Near East, and trying to use Ukraine as a proxy state against Russia. The US doesn't care about the independence, and freedom of the Taiwanese, we're just using them as a pawn yo continue maintaining the US imperialist empire hegemony.

Indigenous tribes occupied Taiwan and the Dutch colonised it in the 17th century. Koxinga a Southern Chinese General defeated the Dutch and in turn was defeated by the Qing dynasty who then annexed his territory but the indigenous tribes still occupied the interior and still do in places up till today. Therefore Taiwan was a Chinese settler colonial project.
In the most recent election in January, 2024, there are 60% of Taiwanese voters who didn't cast their ballots for the pro-independence President Mr. Lai who only got 40% of votes; except that those 60% of voters were divided between two other candidates, so the minority candidate won the election. Of course not all of the 60% of voters can be classified as acknowledging themselves as Chinese, but at least they voted for 2 candidates who had both either said or showed willingness to abide by the 1992 Consensus which says that they all belong to one country but for the present time each side is called a different name and has a different political system.

So Taiwan has been inhabited for millennia, but only the last few centuries matter, which is the period that it was recognized as belonging to China. So who were the people who inhabited Taiwan for millennia? Do they have a say in Taiwan's status?

Since when has the US government ever cared what is legal or not?

Now some facts about Taiwan:
1: The island now known as Taiwan was inhabited and ruled by the aborigines for approximately 30,000 years.
2: When the Dutch arrived in 1626 most of the population of Formosa were the Yuanzhumin or Gaoshan people (who have no DNA link back to China)
3: The Qing had minimal control of Taiwan in fact the Qing only managed to rule less than 20% of the island while the aborigines ruled and controlled over 80% of the island.
(look up Edgar Snow interview))
7: The Cairo Declaration 1943 discussed the possibility of handing the island of Taiwan to the ROC.

If China wants peaceful reunification, it must offer some form of true political autonomy (HK-style “autonomy” won’t cut it)
是的, 实行共产主义.

The final 1982 communique states: " Government of the United States of America acknowledges the Chinese position that there is but one China and Taiwan is part of China."
This statement does not declare that the US agrees with China's position it simply acknowledges or recognizes ambitions.

有趣的是,国民党最新领导人希望和解。但哪里有美帝国主义,哪里就有分裂:朝鲜、中东、各地
Would any one recommend any good books in english about Chinese-Tawainese history that doesn't have that US hegemonic lense on it?
For those who don't know:
Taiwan is actually just the name of the Island(s)
Technically, the country with this flag 🇹🇼 is also called China. Specifically, the Republic of China
It's just that most people call the RoC Taiwan because that's the territory it controls.
No other version needed.
此外,台湾经济进步是美帝国主义的另一个明显损失,如果台湾得到适当的重新调整。人民自决权(列宁)应该澄清美帝国主义的霸权
Great update thanks for sharing your strength in this shameful time of the USA and its 15th colony Taiwan. Solidarity from sisseton wahpeton Oyate South Dakota unceeded land within America.
I still remember my 10th grade Global Studies teacher (in 1983-84) declaring "The real Chinese people live in Taiwan." She was referring to the nationalists. We students had to be against the revolution, as she was.
That would be why China will have to act if Taiwan declare independent cause the fight with US will happen at that point in time or after US has planted all their missiles and nuclear there.
Very interesting history - another eye opener. Regarding semi conductors, look at ASML. The Dutch company that makes the machines that produce chips. Dutch government gave in to US pressure not to allow ASML to sell the most advanced machines to China.
Dear presenters, please check your ‘you know’s and ‘like’. It became a little annoying. Beyond that, keep it coming!
Actually Taiwan got nothing to do with US. Do you know how money and gold Cheng Kai Shek and wife took to America? And which US bank benefited the most???
Its interesting that the latest Kuomintang leaders wish to reconcile. But where US imperialism is present there is a division: korea middle east everywhere
Why is it taking so long to bring war criminals to justice?
It all goes back to civil war between Komintang and peasant rebel CPC : businessmen threatened to cease support in all ways of Chang Ke Check should he not turn against MaoZeDong . Civil war went on with defeat of a corrupt nationalist army , the leaders of which left Chongqing and refuged in Formosa, having stolen looted all sorts of antiques . Since Taiwan became relatively advanced, especially in areas of IT investment
Its interesting that the latest Komintang leaders wish to reconcile. But where US imperialism is present there is a division: korea middle east everywhere.
國立故宮博物院 The heir to Imperial China. They seem to think they're China.
The Kuomintang fought the communist because they don't want to be in their control, that's why Taiwan is free,.Do you think Taiwan will give up their freedom easily.
你们独一无二
In addition Taiwan economic progress is another perceived loss for US imperialism should Taiwan become properly re adjusted. The right of people for self-determination ( lenin) should clarify this US imperialism hegemony

Is there a good English language history dealing with Koxinga? (Have I spelled that correctly?)
The Taiwan indepemce movement is a smokescreen for s restoration of Formosa
@@denisross2923 You are right but…..unfortunately, the reality has changed. Today’s not the Qin dynasty, the weak and corrupted government they are facing. If Japan still harbours that objective, the end results for them is worse as the Chinese have many scores to settle.
They know(US and allies) that they can’t war a war with China and do wanted to destabilise China using Taiwan as a stepping stone to their adventure to slow down China progression that are taking over their usual prowess in many fields and these Taiwan politicians have became their tools to make it happen. Sadly, this will also disrupt the Taiwan progress as well and these Taiwan leaderships are selfishly doing it at the expense of the country and people. The bright side is, this will be futile.
Taiwan belongs to the indigenous peoples not the people that came to the island in the 1600s. Their languages and customs have slowly eroded even though various attempts by governments including current one has tried to alleviate some of the problems. Indigenous people are always at the whatya call it darn it forgot 😑😑
Erm .. do you know that the current DPP government refuse to alocate budget for the indigenous people. DPP care for indigenous is just a show.
"No such thing as a stupid question!" My late grandad used to proclaim hehe.
All the way fascist
ha ha china sells the dollar short
Taiwan 🇹🇼 IS a country 🇹🇼💪🇹🇼💪🇹🇼💪🇹🇼💪🇹🇼💪🇹🇼💪🇹🇼💪🇹🇼💪🇹🇼
LOOL colonialism is sweet for some --- MOST Taiwanese have already forgotten when Taipei, China was a member of the UNSC and making strategic decisions for mainland China...
I call that arrogance....
13:48 he calls it, very accurately btw, 'First' Cold W4r !!
China out performing in 58 of 62 major key technologies and the vastest supply and supplying chain since the Silk Road, china(PPP) competing with the US(debt and inflation).
It does not mean they are in the right. Even if they become the most advanced technology-driven country in the world, they are still an authoritarian country.
Hi one question, I am from Catalunya, I am interested in the self-determination procedures that you mention. Is it something present in the chinese constitution? How can I know further about this? The western narritive pictures a completely autoritarian China with no such possibilities.
Singapore foreign affair stated Taiwan is part of China, not ROC not PRC but civilization China.
Singapore consistently maintains a "One China" policy and *opposes independence for Taiwan.* - Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore
If you don't understand English, here is the definition of oppose: disapprove of and attempt to prevent 😅
So Taiwan has been inhabited for millennia, but only the last few centuries matter, which is the period that it was recognized as belonging to China. So who were the people who inhabited Taiwan for millennia? Do they have a say in Taiwan's status?
