Great video! Shocked you have this few views and subscribers, the quality is great! I was considering getting this or a budget scarlet and you helped me decide to go with this instead ( and it's cheaper too )
Thank you so much for the detailed review! I just bought this mixer, which is on its way, and after watching your review, I feel at ease that I made a good purchase. I'm just starting to stream, so this is all I need for now. Thank you!
this is a phenomenal mixer for zoom calls/podcasts. As long as you select "original audio" in the zoom settings, you are getting a clear signal from the mic to zoom.
I bought it to mix audio from two different computer systems. The audio interface I use for my voiceover is a Universal Audio Apollo Twin, and I wanted the ability to record my voice over and camera together independent from my gameplay audio. I had both the gameplay audio, and the voiceover sounding excellent, but needed a way to monitor them together while recording each on independent computers. This mixer was basically used as a sub mix of two different audio signals being recorded simultaneously. It worked great! There is indiscernible loss in audio quality compared to when I monitor both sources independently. Also great for those whose audio needs don’t require a massive board.
I’m confused since I’m very new to mics and mixers, so with this interface when the phantom power button is on it’ll give 48V to the mic right? or is that phantom power button only for the 15V that you talked about? also since you were recording just off of the 15V does it create a lot more self noise when 48V is on? Thanks for any help on this :)
Hi Joe, I am amazed you do not have more subs your content is fantastic. I am looking to get this mixer for band rehearsal and recording rehearsal demos only. We are a 4 piece band and I would like to use this mixer in the following routing: 1) Vocal mic--> XLR input (channel 1) 2) Guitar--> stereo input (channel 2-3) 3) Bass guitar-->stereo input (channel 4-5) 4) KLON/MOOG modulator--> RCA stereo input I am planning to send the phones output from this mixer to the drummer, and the main L+R output of this mixer into a 4 output LD headphone Amp for individual monitoring for guitar player, bass player, vocalist. My question is, will the main output and the phones output of this mixer work simultaneously with them receiving all inputs?
I've had this mixer for...25 years? I'm guessing the 16bit issue is probably for when they were first launched, of course they could have upgraded it since it's still in production. Having said that, this is the first mixer I ever bought and in fact I still use it for small events where I have just 1 or 2 mics going to PA's or an amp. At my home studio I still use it for one vocal mic (then into a Presonus AR16 mixer/interface) because, yes, the EQ and compressor work super well. The phantom 15V is a con for condenser mics (can be) but other than that, for the price and the amount of years I've had it and the beating it has endured (nothings has broken, nor the pots nor the plastic sides) it's a darn good product. I definitely recommend this for beginners, even as a small interface. Nice video, cheers.
Let's try again. I have this mixer, a PC and use Audacity. How do you plumb it and what buttons should be UP and which ones DOWN. I just like to get voice into Audacity and be able to play it through my speakers. Thanks.
Awesome video! I'm looking to get a dynamic mic and pair it with this mixer. What is the difference between this and the Behringer UMC22? Will this be one better? I can get this one for 50$ whereas the UMC22 is maybe double the price...
UMC22 does not have a compressor or EQ. It does however have the full 48v phantom power. The Q502USB mixer only has 15volts phantom power. But thats only a concern for Condenser mics. Many great mics like the AT2035 I use a lot only needs 12v PP so its a no big deal. A dynamic mic however does not have a phantom power requirement. So if you plan to use Dynamic mics, then this is a way way better option for you.
Thank you Martin. Yea last video was a review of the V7 Mic. I choose to leave the EQ flat on the mixer for that review. Flat EQ doesnt help my already horrid voice :-D
Thank you for posting your informative video. I am having trouble and am hoping someone won't mind helping me. I am using a windows 10 pc. I hooked my Q502USB mixer into the computer using the usb cord. After doing this, I get no sound from my computer speakers. Unplug the usb and the sound comes out. I have nothing else plugged into the mixer other than my mic on channel 1 and the computer is recognizing it. Any ideas would be so appreciated.
Great review. I have had this mixer for a while now and there is white noise coming in on my recordings and yours sounds great. Could there be something wrong with my mixer or is there anything that I should change? Like any settings in Windows? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
It could be your mic requires a lot of gain, if your getting a lot of white noise you could be driving the pre amps to high. Most pre amps are really clean up to around %75-%80 percent max gain. From there you will get more preamp noise. Mics that require a lot of gain like the Shure SM7B are going to end up with more white noise. Also if you dont have enough gain and are brining up the volume in post, you can be also bringing up the natural noise from the electronics. I recommend to have your gain on your mixer set so when you record your audio its hitting around -12db before any editing is done.. Hope this helps.
I have to agree, love this mixer! I have a different version, the xenyx502, non usb. I use a UCA200 audio interface with it. I do a livestream and during it, I sometimes play audio/video from youtube and other video hosting platforms. I have not been able to turn the sound down from those video platforms. The audio from those videos are WAY louder than my voice going through my microphone. I'm sure it's staring me in the face, but I'm not seeing how to lower that volume. Is there a way to turn the volume down coming from the computer without turning down the audio levels of my voice going through the microphone? I know my version is slightly different from yours so maybe you don't know, but I figured I'd ask anyway.
I got mine last week and had to replace it immediately because it was grounded and the ac plug at the back is loose. Got the replacement yesterday and there was some improvement. However, the ac plug is still a bit loose and I get a loud hum whenever the wire is moved a little.

I will then be able to hear all the audio from my computer without hearing my mic in my headphones with the correct To Phones and To Main Mix button arrangement, is this right?
Great review, mate... did anyone try the Q502USB with an AKG Perception 220 condenser mic? I can't seem to find the "real" phantom power voltage requirement for this microphone. Thanks! *EDIT* it appears to require very close to 48V, so it should not work.
I got this mixer but its introducing a lot of hiss noise, is not the cable as when i connect the phone straight to the speakers i get no noise at all, its very disappointing, as i tired everything to get rid of the hiss.
My Scarlet 3rd gen pushes my condenser mic way better than the Q502 USB, It adds a LOT of noise when I have to turn the gain up on the Q502. I also have both, And the Q502 only does 16bit 44 audio, my scarlet is more clear at 24 bit. but I guess your saying you don't hear a difference, because you either don't hear it, or don't care. Don't get me wrong im not saying the q502 is garbage, it does work well, it just has to much noise for my Condenser. Edit: P.S. most of what Im talking about is Live streaming, not recorded audio, because with the Scarlett I have to do less post processing with the exception of boosting slightly
The gain on the 3rd gen has been greatly improved. As I stated in the video I have a 1st gen model of the 2i2. Also BTW your 2i2 should be able to do 16bit 48kHz. I never said the Q502 was better then any particular recent audio interfaces, but for the value and what you get out of it. It is a very compelling option. As far as noise, my unit actually has clean pre-amps. Perhaps your model doesnt. Now I am not claiming this as "based on what I can hear". I am stating this based on charts and actual testing in software. As far as "dont care", that is actually false as I am very particular about my audio. And as far as being able to tell 16bit vs 24bit audio in your live stream. I call BS on this as you clearly have no understanding that the AAC audio OBS is transmitting in IS ACTUALLY IN 16BIT..
@@JoeJacksonJr You are a very defensive person. You can call "BS" or whatever you want, but I have my professional opinion on what I like, and how I feel it sounds. I mistyped 44, meant to type 48. You really shouldn't make videos if you are wanting all the comments to agree with what your saying, because your video is just that, an opinion, such as mine. You are leading people down the wrong road saying that the phantom power supplied in the Q502 is sufficient, it is NOT, it will not push my SM7B and barely pushes my Nt1. Working in a sound studio, I have people wanting stuff tested all the time ( its like being the family computer geek that everyone goes to). Also, when you go from 16bit to 24 bit there is a HUGE difference, Unless someone is just needing this to "play with" the recording quality is TERRIBLE with the q502. when I record or stream my audio at 24bit 192000 from the universal audio arrow, or my Focusrite 18i20 and occasionally on the 2i2 its a WORLD of a difference. So you should ensure people know that when you are saying the q502 is "good" that it would only be good for beginners on cheap mics that may not care about the noise floor. I was not "calling you out" or bashing you by any means, I wanted to make sure that people had information to help them decide based on their needs. As for Streaming I never said this was though OBS, I Use Sam Broadcaster Software, Since I do this for a living, I try to use the best I can. Thank You.
planning to buy this with behringer ta312s dynamic gooseneck mic for a simple portable soundcard for discord chat/meeting call. will it sounded thin or can I just raise the bass eq a bit to compensate it?
I have a question you may be able to help with. I am currently using this mixer to run a guitar amp simulator setup. I have the input from the guitar going into the mic and then the usb into my pc from the pc back to the xenyx and using the phones out to get the simulator tone. If I wanted to hook it to the speakers I have would I get the signal from the USB only out of the lineouts L and R if thats what I wanted? Thank You!
Would this work with an electric guitar connected to a looper and an amp modeler like hx stomp, using qsc cp8 as main speaker and bose s1 pro as a monitor?
what kind of wire did you use to connect wire 4/5 to the pc? i wanted to adjust my PC volume using the knobs. and also i wanted to use my IEM and connect it to my xenyx q802 and i dont know how to make it work.
Thumbs-up and subscribed. I have ordered my mixer and now I have to rush to learn how to use it properly for internet radio show I have been invited to host. Pray for me! LOL!
I use this for my bass videos, I plug the phones output of my amp into to the line input. Works perfect! But I am struggling with the compression. What would you recommend for compression on bass in the line input?
16bit 48kHz. But honestly I have had no issues what so ever and no one would ever notice I was using 16bit. I do record the audio files as 24bit though to ensure there is no files degradation during post processing.
I'm going to buy a rode podmic. I thought that behringer would be a nice mixer, especially with a Fethead preamp. What do you think about Podmic+behringer+fethead? Or there will be a lot of background noise, because many people speak about that problem on behringer. Thank you in advance
Honestly I run a sE V7 and it has similar sensitivity to the Pod Mic. I am running about 80% gain and its crystal clear. Only thing you can hear is ambient room noise at around -60 db.. The preamps in these littel mixers is actually very good. Way better then people give them credit for. I actually got the mixer because my Scarlett 2i2 1st gen didnt have enough gain to push my sE V7 mic without having a ton of preamp noise.. This mixers preamps are much much cleaner and more powerful then my 2i2. That said, a FetHead and a Cloud Lifter both need a minimum of 24volts of phantom power. This mixer only provides 15v. As per contacting Triton Audio they confirmed that 15v was not enough to run the Fet Head. Now the Q802USB does have full 48v phantom power. But IMHO you will not need a Fethead or CloudLifter. Now if you plan to get a Shure SM7b, then get the Q802USB and a Fethead. Hope this helps.
Great video! I'm looking to buy a mixer or a scarlett focusrite. I want to use it to stream mostly myself with my guitar. Would you recommend it for that use? Thanks!
i cant get recording into daw, mac is saying there is not input with the usb audio codec, created an aggreate device, still no joy what ever i do, regret buying it
Hello, thanks for the video review very helpful. I just got mine set up, and I honestly don't understand what's going on to my headphone monitoring. I cannot just hear the output from my headphones without hearing the Speaker Main out. can it be just my mixer? or is this somehow not possible with this mixer? I have some Beyer Dynamics DT 770 Pro 120 ohms, and I also tried it using 3 other headphones. Thanks for your input if possible!
Hey Joe, Thanks for replying. But for me there is there is no way to have the main mix volume up and cut the sound from going out to my speakers. I tried your suggestion and every other way possible. I tried it with my speakers connected to the Main Mix out or even to the rca out. If I disconnect my speakers and have the main mix volume up than I do hear it fine through my headphones. another note. I do not have the usb cable connected. just using my analog set up for now. Is this a limitation of this unit somehow? Its such a basic feature that I would be so surprised if this is the case. I mean it doesn't have a power switch so I can see they are cutting corners. If you can really verify for me that you can listen to the phones while having main mix cut off from the speakers..then perhaps something may be funky with my brand new unit. thanks mate!
@@dkamhaji Danny, Joe's talking about the two black buttons sitting to the left of the little lights. He explains their use in the video, from 5:35 onwards. The upper black button (TO PHONES) needs to be up, the lower black button (TO MAIN MIX) needs to be down. Your speakers should be connected to MAIN OUT, and your headphones plugged in to PHONES.
great video. I have a question, I had been using this mixer for ages no problem, but out of nowhere. I start to get like buzzing/hissing noise in all videos i record. I know its the q502usb cause when i unplug it from my PC the noise stops. Hope you can help :)
I have two USB mics and have wanted to find a mixer that would accept their USB output and then output the mix via USB to my laptop. Does anyone know if such a device exists? I know there's a way of tapping into the mics' monitor outputs and routing them into 1/4 inch plugs and then into the mixer reviewed here, but that seems overly complex (and maybe not high quality?). But is there a mixer that does this natively?
I don't know why but sometimes, the mixer will have this weird and VERY loud ground hum, and I have to unplug the power cord and plug it back in for it to stop. I have to do that every time it does this. Do you know why this keeps happening?
What about the audio latency? If I want to record videos with my iPhone, will I have problems with usb or just should I connect jut from main output to trrs 3.5mm adapter?
You would want to run the phone into the mixers RCA jack inputs. But as far as using your mic to run into the phone. I havent tested this. But it should be doable.
Hello great video btw, I was wondering where did you plug this into your pc? I tried line in and line out but i can't control the volume with the 2nd line in 4/5?
The Q502USB mixer has a USB output, so you will want to use the provided USB cable and plug the USB cable into the PC. This video here also steps you through installing with that mixer: ruclips.net/video/E3xlbYsZS_8/видео.html If you need anymore assistance, check out our Discord server: discord.gg/AJADNcB
After watching your video, I downloaded the manual: images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/B17mwjFdPiS.pdf . It covers 4 related models, the 502 being the smallest. You mention that the phantom power is 15V. The manual says "switchable 48V/15V". Well, I see no switch. I also noticed the phantom pwr LEDs on all higher models are labeled "48V" but the LED on the 502 is labeled "Phantom". Seems like a little deception going on in the manual. And it's not in the specs on the last page. Then there's the issue of the 16 bit USB interface you mentioned. The manual says that the preamp "enables you to use the greatly extended dynamic range of of your 24-bit/192kHz HD recorder to the fullest" but the specs lack anything about the dynamic range (16 or 24 bit). Again, it sounds like they're promoting my DAW instead of their hardware. Where did you get that info? I trust what you say in the video, I just wonder if there's another manual with more detailed specs. Thanks.
Condenser mics require phantom power. Dynamics normally work with just the passive power. But when you buy the mic, it will tell you on the box as some condenser mics dont require a full 48 volts. The AT2035 and AT875r mic I have for example only require 12 volts. But yea its always mentioned on the product specs.

Yes, absolutely. Provides full 60db of clean gain.. Matter of fact its enough clean gain even for the SM7B. ;-)

Thank You.
great video man exactly what i needed
Glad you liked it!
planning to buy this with behringer ta312s dynamic gooseneck mic for a simple portable soundcard for discord chat/meeting call.
will it sounded thin or can I just raise the bass eq a bit to compensate it?
I have a beyerdynamic DT-297-PV/80 MKII which needs 12-48 phantom power. Could i use it with a with Behringer Xenyx Q502USB with 15v phantom power ???
How much this cost ?
Thumbs-up and subscribed. I have ordered my mixer and now I have to rush to learn how to use it properly for internet radio show I have been invited to host. Pray for me! LOL!
Do you know anything about the Gemini-05usb mixer? Thanks for all you share.
Im kinda a dummy at this, is the mixer like seen by the PC as an input device, and will I be able to record the output from the mixer on PC?
Can this mixer increase more bass sound on to pre amp PA speakers?
How do you connect a Irig2 to this mixer board
Hi Joe, quick question. Can I use my Shure SM58 in this setup for streaming(RUclips)?
Yes you sure can.
Thanks for this review.. its really helpful.. would it sound great if i will be using this as a headphone amp while listening to turntable? Thanks.
Sound great is subjective. I cant say. But the output for the headphone is clean.
@@JoeJacksonJr i agree. But clean would be fair.. as long there's clarity to the sound, i think it would be enough. Thanks for your response.
I use this for my bass videos, I plug the phones output of my amp into to the line input. Works perfect! But I am struggling with the compression. What would you recommend for compression on bass in the line input?
Honestly I dont play any instruments into my mixer. I just use it for voice audio.
You, sir, are a GREAT reviewer!
BTW. What is the bit rate, here? 16 or 24?
@@JoeJacksonJr thanks a lot!
thank u sir. But does it come with delay echo..?
Great video! I'm looking to buy a mixer or a scarlett focusrite. I want to use it to stream mostly myself with my guitar. Would you recommend it for that use? Thanks!
The Q502USB would be excellent for that..
@@JoeJacksonJr thank you so much mate!!!
Does this sound better than the Focustrite?
i cant get recording into daw, mac is saying there is not input with the usb audio codec, created an aggreate device, still no joy what ever i do, regret buying it
İ will record vocals does it make noise and whats better for eliminating noise um2 or this mixer
can this use 2 microphones for 2 person podcast?
Great detail & review! Thank u
This Behringer mixer can be connected straight to my DSLR camera to improve my audio?
You can.. But the audio will have a ton of hiss.. I tired to do the same.. :-D
Joe Jackson thank you!
does this have a sound effects built in?
Hello, thanks for the video review very helpful. I just got mine set up, and I honestly don't understand what's going on to my headphone monitoring. I cannot just hear the output from my headphones without hearing the Speaker Main out. can it be just my mixer? or is this somehow not possible with this mixer? I have some Beyer Dynamics DT 770 Pro 120 ohms, and I also tried it using 3 other headphones. Thanks for your input if possible!
Make sure TO PHONES is UP and TO MAIN MIX is DOWN..
How can I like... Input the music into this? (Music from PC)
USB
He shows feeding audio in from his computer at 3:17 on channels 4 & 5.
Huh, the manual seems to claim 48V phantom.
If i'm singing in a small place like a restaurant, it will be enough powerful for that?
I would go for the 802 model so you can have 2 mic inputs.. But yea.. Its fine, your speakers/monitors will have their own built in amp.
great video. I have a question, I had been using this mixer for ages no problem, but out of nowhere. I start to get like buzzing/hissing noise in all videos i record. I know its the q502usb cause when i unplug it from my PC the noise stops. Hope you can help :)
Many other people including myself have the same issue
Btw if you still use this piece of trash here's a tip: Raise preamp gain and lower output level
@@SylvanasWindrunnerResurrected thanks. I gave it to my mate and bought a better one
Try to look another video. I have one now thank you.
is it useful for electronic keyboard pls do rply tnx much..
Sorry mate, I would suggest going with XLR mics if you need that type of mixing.
I don't know why but sometimes, the mixer will have this weird and VERY loud ground hum, and I have to unplug the power cord and plug it back in for it to stop. I have to do that every time it does this. Do you know why this keeps happening?
Sounds like its picking up a ground loop. Make sure all your devices are on the same power strip and see if this helps.
A good review. Much appreciated.
Thank you for the wonderful review, I think I'm gonna buy one!

Can i use other type of power supply for xenyx?
Very useful guide, does this mixer support 48v of phantom power? I have an at2020 to power
He directly addressed that around 4:50
The at2020 says 45v phantom is this still ok then
Hello great video btw, I was wondering where did you plug this into your pc? I tried line in and line out but i can't control the volume with the 2nd line in 4/5?
The Q502USB mixer has a USB output, so you will want to use the provided USB cable and plug the USB cable into the PC. This video here also steps you through installing with that mixer: ruclips.net/video/E3xlbYsZS_8/видео.html

@@JoeJacksonJr Yes i got it hooked up with the USB. Thank you for your reply! This a nice little mixer.
What kind of impedance you would recommend on headphones? 32, 80 or 200 ohms?
Thx
i use beyerdynamic dt 770 pro 250ohm no volume problem.
you can have both To Phones and To Main Mix pressed down at the same time?
In the video I step you through what pressing which ones down does and what combinations of up and down help control the mixer.
Great Video!! ThanX 4 the review!!
Thanks.
How do you know if your mic needs phantom power?
Condenser mics require phantom power. Dynamics normally work with just the passive power. But when you buy the mic, it will tell you on the box as some condenser mics dont require a full 48 volts. The AT2035 and AT875r mic I have for example only require 12 volts. But yea its always mentioned on the product specs.
@@JoeJacksonJr - Many thanks Joe - I've just got a couple of2nd hand unmarked mics (xlr) with solid, heavy bodies.... what will happen if I turn on Phantom power if it's not a phantom power mic?
@@websitesthatneedanem safer to plug the mic in without phantom power and if nothing happens, then trying phantom power. Some devices can tolerate it, others may react in not so great ways if they aren't rated for phantom power but you send it anyway.
Can it be with a 45vlot condenser
Hi, man) is this mixer can to work with 250 Om headphones?
Will they work, yes. But honestly not sure if they can properly push 250 ohms and not add some distortion. My AKG K612 Pros are only 120Ohm..
Very helpful video, thanks a lot. :)
You're welcome!
