  • I do not own this song. I believe this is the 10th anniversary edition of Les Miserables' "Stars," performed by the extremely talented Philip Quast. There are actually quite a few versions of "Stars," all of them good. Hope you enjoy it!

This isn't from the 10th anniversary album recording, but it's definitely Philip Quast! :D

It’s from the 1992 UK Tour Highlights album.

@@mrjohnjenkins That was before the 10th Anniversary. It sounds like Philip Quast, but he did not prepare as much for this as he did for the 10th Anniversary. I can tell the difference. At least Lea Salonga still sounded like Princess Jasmine three years after Aladdin.

    • @mrjohnjenkins
      @mrjohnjenkins 2 года назад

@@mikeor- I don’t think preparation is a factor. Quast is a known perfectionist so doubt he’d under-prepare! There is just a world of difference between an acted show performance and a concert version. Plus you can literally hear the evolution of Quast’s Javert from his West End performances in the late 80’s to the UK Tour in ‘92. He really did smash it out the park in the 10th Anniversary.

    French Version:
Javert: There, in the dark of the night,
    Is a fugitive running,
    Under the stars.
    Under the stars.
    God be my witness.
    I shall not yield
    Until he is before me,
    Kneeling at my feet.
He follows the way of the devil,
I follow the way of the Lord.
    I make order prevail,
    Bringing truth to light.
And those who fall, as Lucifer fell,
    The flames of hell!
    Brightly, in their multitudes,
    Do the stars reign,
    Soldiers of shadow.
    Posted in space,
    You are the sentinels.
    Who watch over us,
    And who guard the sky,
    And who guard the sky.
Each knows their place in the night,
Each follows their course in silence,
And nothing can divert them from the path
    Of their vigilance.
And if they fall, as Lucifer fell,
    They fall into hell!
These words are written, in eternal ink,
    On the doorways to paradise,
That those who falter and those who fall,
    Shall pay the price!
    O God of Justice,
    Show me the way,
    And for thy glory,
    I will plant your sword,
    Myself, this I swear!
This I swear by the stars!

You know what I love about Les Miserables? There is no complete "Bad Guy." You've got Jean Valjean, who's a criminal but almost falsely, I guess, and you've got Javert, who's hunting Valjean, but he's doing his job- most other policemen would do the same thing. Except we can all agree on one thing- Javert's got some of the awesome-est shit ever... If I wasn't a girl, I'd audition to be him .-.

Russell Crowe cannot sing musical theater style and has a very restrictive acting range, that's why he sucked in Les Miserables.

***** i honestly think he understood the character better than most past performers of Javert. Yes his singing abilities weren't on par with them, but he played a conflicted antagonist and not just a straight 'bad guy' like most other depictions.
