  • In this episode, Coach P talks with Mike Arone, Founder, and CEO, of the Boston Scally Company.
Mike grew up in the Boston area and fully embraced the culture of the city. His company, Boston Scally, creates high-quality flat caps, known as Scally Caps in Boston, and other awesome apparel. They pride themselves on hard work, a blue-collar mentality, and a family atmosphere.
Mike was a college wrestler and shared how the sport and his family and city built into him the qualities it takes to succeed in life. The same qualities apply to business and have allowed Mike and company to rise to the top of their field.
This interview is full of principles we can all use in our lives to become the best version of ourselves. When I say take notes, I mean it 100 %. You won't want to leave this wisdom to your memory alone. Bonus, Mike is a great communicator and storyteller to boot.

Your positioning is perfect, Mike--and you've designed and made them in great shapes, single panel my favorite. I wear 'em in Resume Speed, Kansas where the bales are round, the people are square and some of the welders are poets.

Really strange that I see this today and there’s no comments from the guy about the negative comments made at the time of this video and after!!

I now own 8 Boston Scally caps. They are really inconsistent in sizing and the quality is really hit and miss. For as much as they cost I would have expected a lot better QC. I have some that fit perfect and 3 that are so small I can’t even put them on and another one that is really large. I recently got another one that has stitching on the side that is a bit off and causes the left side of the cap to bunch up.

Branding totally matters. My go to flat/newsboy cap has been a local San Diego company, Brixton. They're great, but are a bit cheaper. They sell for the same MSRP as Boston Scally, but really, these are over priced past $30. I guess both companies use Chinese manufacturing.
I'll try Hanna of Donnegal next. Made in Ireland by hand and all.

I hope Mr Arone sees this. I bought several caps from them. Wear them all the time. I got a Kenmore that didn’t fit me well, I didn’t put it in the rotation. After watching some YT videos I looked again and sure enough the two back panels are xl on a m/l cap. “Customer service” essentially told me I’m stuck with it and to go pound sand. Very unfortunate. They are chasing away paying customers and trashing the company’s reputation. Now I don’t even want to wear the others because the whole situation makes me feel differently about the company.

Well, they finally agreed to replace it. I still believe their customer service department is working against the best interests of both the company and the customer. I used to manage customer service for an international firearms company, if anyone at BS would like my thoughts on the matter it could be worthwhile for them to contact me.

I had the same problem. My friend had one and I tried it on. It fit my head perfect and ordered two caps. When I received both one was too big and the other was too small. Trying to return them was a nightmare. If they weren't made in China I might give them another try but I spent 10 bucks at TJ maxx for their chinese made cap and it fits better.
