IC TO THE RESCUE!! IC 1027 Deathstar SD70 Leads the Amtrak #58 HAULING Northbound!!

Due to severe mechanical issues with the northbound City of New Orleans Amtrak train,causing it to run over 7 hours late, a locomotive had to be put on front to carry the train to Chicago to finish its journey. However, it was a complete shock to see that the locomotive added on was no other than Illinois Central 1027, an EMD SD70 Standard Cab. Despite its age, the locomotive was consistently hitting its max possible speed of 70mph during the journey. This was quite the chase!!

I may have seen you. I was driving to work through Pesotum and Tolono and had seen the train just north of Tuscola and thought that was pretty odd to have an IC locomotive pulling it. Then I saw 2 or 3 different rail fans taking pictures/videos of it as it went by crossings.

I’m pretty sure that was me, I was on the side next to the old depot in Pesotum and then chased it up north after it went through

Used to see these on the B&LE, right next door, about 5 years ago, before the switch to CN SD-70m's.

I wish the IC SD70s were still common to see around. I only see them on the CN A-Trains that run here
