Smoking Railcar Axle! BNSF Manifest Train Through La Plata, MO w/ Handbrake Accidentally Left on
Просмотров 8 тыс.6 дней назад
After this caught the eye of many railfans on the platform as well as the strong burning odor, there was an attempt to try and alert the crew of a handbrake accidentally left on by calling the BNSF emergency number directly. Luckily not long after the train passed the station, a nearby detector gave out a hotbox indication and the train was stopped. Smoking axle at 02:09
Unit Grain Train! FAST NS Train 55V w/ SD70ACe Leader Creates Loud Rhythm Over Rail Spot!

Grain trains along the NS St. Louis District have become a very unusual sight nowadays, with this one here marking the first empty grain train I’ve seen all year. Despite being prepared to catch it, the speedy guy still found a way to sneak up on me lol. The cherry on top is of course the SD70ACe leader and beautiful joint-like rail sounds. Enjoy!

00:37 AWESOME horn
I guess the detectors ate turned off for saving money
That would definitely cost the railroad more money when a derailment happens if they were off. The detectors are always on, but it just so happened that the hotbox developed after the train passed the west detector about 10 ish miles from the station
you win the Eagle Eye award. Nice catch my friend.
@@timeforbeans Thank you, who knows what could of happened if that went unnoticed!
And you did inform the railroad ??
@@class77sncb Yes they were notified, but how far afterwards they stopped I’m not too sure
@@thoroughbredrail2050 it can cause a derailment...hot axles are dangerous !
@@class77sncbOh definitely, we do not need a repeat of East Palestine. That incident was already horrible on its own
How far to the next detector?
@@Jeff-fx1zy It was 6 miles east from the station
not too far i hope... NS/allan shaw cannot afford ANOTHER incident
@@25mfd This wasn’t on NS, it was on the BNSF Marceline Subdivision
@@thoroughbredrail2050 oh okay thanks for the correction... then NS is off the hook for this one lol
The brakeman loved the 11 mile walk back to that axle, I’m sure. It was probably 90 degrees by the time he got there.
Doesn't have to walk back. Conductor drops of and the engineer pulls by slowly as long as it's just a hot wheel alarm. Then comes the long walk back. Track side ya gotta go by the smell. Brake shoes have a distinct odor.
@@reginald2004 *Brake shoes have a distinct odor* you know it when you smell it
In days long gone now, the station agent would be out there checking the train as it went by, also the caboose could be sent a hand signal letting them know of a hot box. Shame things have changed.
There’s definitely been a change that’s for sure. I’ve always found it so unique and fascinating how the railroad used to operate during the caboose days
Now, the DISPRS hear the detector readouts, and they want to know the problem. CONDRS can get suspended if identified responsible. The ruleroads suck so bad now.
@@grandcrappy The crews can also hear the defect detectors inside the cab, but in the case of an issue caught by the detector and the crew decides to keep on chugging, then that’s when the real issue begins and most likely there will be a new job opening within the following week lol once that secret gets out
Doesn't matter. I see videos now they shove back for miles with no protection? I could never do that, could be an animal or kid playing, but today is today
@@tomp8871 The railroad is taking too many short cuts in order to be efficient, most of those short cuts leaving out the crucial part of safety.
Amazing compilation!
@@KTRFP Thank you!

Hybrid NF K5LLA, nice catch though.
Good to know, I really like the sound of it
Yo how loud is that K5lla?
On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d give it a solid 8. That horn was a beast!

Nice! What were the flat cars carrying on the first train?
Thanks! Those flatcars were carrying automobile frames to the nearby General Motors Facility
You Probably live bye one of the best lines I’ve ever seen, These two catches symbolize it all! Two Fast ACe leaders, W/ Jersey Central Lines leading and an Extremely Friendly Crew. do you have it GREAT over there!
@@Yannitron The one thing I wish is that there would be more traffic, but the line recently has been getting a lot of neat action! There’s been more ACe leaders recently and HUs/Special Interest locomotives passing by too. Not to mention the amount of Wabash searchlights still present as well as the 60mph track speed!
WOAH WHAT A BULLET!!! UP 8454 Leading a FIRE horn on a seven engine intermodal w/DPU this is it is WICKED!! And the fact that three of the four head end engines were EMD is Stunning. Absolutely Amazing Catch!

Probably closer to 50. Cool catch with the ACe duo.

Great P5 leader captured! I just got 4783 today, it had a P5.

I was here ;)
Same WOOOOO
what led is that
They are fading LED bulbs from the 80’s or older. I don’t know the exact model or manufacturer though
how often do HU's come through STL (kirkwood/county area)? i go hunting but never found one, i base location on the heritage units app, which got me UP1943, an SI unit. please help Edit: what line is that? if its an NS line then where?
They come through on a occasional basis I’d say, so like not very often. The NS line here in the video is the St. Louis District and I recorded at a road slightly east of St. Peters. Honestly, if you have Facebook I strongly encourage you to join various railfan heads up groups for the STL region. That’s my main way for finding all sorts of HUs and SI locos.
@@thoroughbredrail2050Ok, thanks

Awesome catch! I'd get NS 321 with this power set.
Thanks! And yeah this would make for a great catch once the power transfers over
I see these a lot and someone told me that the one I saw that looked like that was not a conrail. How do I know if its a conrail engine?
One way to tell based on appearance is the placement of the ditch lights. If they are below the walking platform on the front of the locomotive, then those are a big indicator of a former Conrail locomotive. If ditchlights are mounted on/along the walking platform then they are mostly likely not former Conrail. Another indicator is that the #3300 number series NS SD40-2s are all ex Conrail which is another big indicator. Hopefully this helps!
@@thoroughbredrail2050 thank you so much I will definitely look put for these

What in the Reese's peanut butter f*** is going on here
This is what happens when you let two unreliable locomotives lead a long distance passenger train 😂
Used to see these on the B&LE, right next door, about 5 years ago, before the switch to CN SD-70m's.
I wish the IC SD70s were still common to see around. I only see them on the CN A-Trains that run here
I may have seen you. I was driving to work through Pesotum and Tolono and had seen the train just north of Tuscola and thought that was pretty odd to have an IC locomotive pulling it. Then I saw 2 or 3 different rail fans taking pictures/videos of it as it went by crossings.
I’m pretty sure that was me, I was on the side next to the old depot in Pesotum and then chased it up north after it went through
2008's horn is worse,
Yeahhh I’ve seen some recent footage. It seems like 2005 had its horn tuned a little but 2008 became worse
Do you know where these are stored at in KC?
It was at Knoche Yard for a bit but not sure if they are still there
And they're retiring the Genesis for🤮🤮🤮🤮 "that"
Amtrak is gonna regret it when they are stuck with only chargers and ALCs and they can’t even make a long distance journey
An Sd70 going that fast, a death star Sd70 nonetheless scares me
The crew was running it at its max loco speed most of the way, they were at the limit 😭
That did have a twist!!!!!😂
It’s the last thing I would think of leading Amtrak!! 😂
Nice
Thanks!
Awesome catch!!!!!!
Thank you!!
Lookin like the city of New Orleans decided to return lol
This is how they should run it lol, forget about the chargers
Is just me or does 326 and 312 has new Amtrack livery. I'm from (Northern) Ireland you see so I'm not sure
You’re 100% correct! They do indeed have the new Amtrak livery
