    I love to see that you pressed from the back. I did that too and didn't know it was a thing. :-). I always have a great time when we do quilts together and you are so good with color. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge about color with my and my channel. And now I know how to pronounce analogous. PERFECT FABRIC FOR THE BORDER. And that bling cup is awesome! Love you bunches. April

    What a great video. I've never used a colour wheel, but see how useful it would be when choosing fabric for a pattern. I generally like bold colours, but find my finished product often looks too busy. Too much contrast! I'd love to try making a monochromatic quilt. April's choice of colours reminded me of an old saying I heard often from my grandmother. "Blue and green should not be seen together, except in the washing machine." Thank goodness those old rules have gone out the window. Thanks again, Di, for sharing more great information!

    • @sisterchicksquilting
      @sisterchicksquilting  2 года назад +1

      I love your comment Lynda!! Your grandmothers saying is hilarious, LOL! I am a bold color lover as well, If your finished product looks too busy, you might check you color placement and values, the light and dark of each color. This quilt was a good example of how the background fabric and a consistent pattern creates harmony.
      I'm glad you liked the video feel free to email me if you want to have a more detailed conversation.
      Thanks as always for watching my channel :)

      Glad it was helpful! Yes, the struggle is real and it will just take time and expereince. If you're putting your own fabrics together I would audition, audition then ask a friend to look at your pulled fabrics. Of course another easy way is to buy fabrics from the same line or even kits for a break! Thank you for watching my channel, I appreciate it! :)

    This color lesson was so fun. I struggle understanding what goes and what doesn’t so this was a great start for me. I’m that person who grabs fabric that looks good to me and starts cutting…then I make a block and…don’t like it. 🤪 I think it’s time I buy a color wheel. 😉 Have a marvelous weekend Miss Di…Thanks for taking the time to guide us. So very sorry for your loss. Hugs and prayers to the family. 🤗🙏🤗🙏

    I like the border you picked. I get on a kick when buying fabric. Sometimes traditional and sometimes bold ( kaffe Fassett.). There isn’t any fabric stores near so I usually buy online. It’s nice to learn something new. You and April are a hoot. Can’t wait to see your WIPs. Have a good weekend with the Engineer. Heat wave broke yay

    Don't care for yellow or orange or brown so I struggle with these colors. (I'm a Summer so these are not my colors LOL). Had to make a special trip to the store to make my Ukraine window quilt and even then I picked a yellow with a blue pattern in it. I almost never choose green unless I need a leaf or I'm making something for the GGS who loves green. So now I know I tend to make analagous quilts. Love love Red -- so I range through maybe peach (no closer to orange) to pinks and reds and fuschias and purples through blues all the way to teals and turquoise (no closer to green). I've sometimes added white for contrast, but they need to have some pattern in them, not just plain white. Love to add greys and blacks as the background colors instead, so I also have a collection of these in my stash. Thanks for this lesson. Your blocks are beautiful, by the way. The colors are a subdued tone and that makes them look good together as well.

    • @sisterchicksquilting
      @sisterchicksquilting  2 года назад +2

      I've never personally cared for yellow or brown quilts, however since I've been quilting for others I've see some amazing brown and yellow quilts that are amazing! It's all in how you put the fabric together. I too tend like to prefer analagous themed quilt. Actualy, the quilt in the video was not easy for me ot make, but I think it turned out. Glad you liked the color lesson Cynthia.

    April did what I have problems with, in her Green Batik blocks, the medium and light greens disappeared into one another under direct light. For me this problem appears more when viewed in low light, i.e. twilight or the lamp is across the room/from the hallway. How do we conquer this from the beginning?

    • @sisterchicksquilting
      @sisterchicksquilting  2 года назад

      That is a a value problem ( light and darks) To find the value lay the fabrics you’re working with and take a picture in back and white. Two or more colors may look the same in black and white even though they look different in color. This is also a good way to balance the colors when you’re with ID in ac design wall.
      To solve add colors with more contrast that still blend together for harmony.
      I hope this helps, thank for watching my videos😊❣️
