- A first look at the new DCS Afghanistan Map. DISCLAIMER, I was unaware at the start of the stream that only the SOUTH WEST portion of the Map has been released in High Fidelity. The rest of the map looks pretty bad however this will be updated in future to match the South West portion.

Ya, it doesn’t look anything like the trailer. I was flying on it before I saw the new trailer and was shocked at how different it looked and I run on max settings.
i was about to buy, but i think ill wait till at least the 2nd part if not the full release before getting it
Thank you for validating my opinion. Had to find someone who had the whole map (since I just skeptically bought the 1/3) to verify that the textures werent just because I was looking at the wrong part.

SA map looks amazing now, the best looking map of all I guess. Either at 5000, 10000, or 20000ft.

I think its about as good as its ever going to get, in the good areas, and that's just down to the shear performance hit our PC's would take. The ED videos were definitely misleading though. Perhaps they could let us try it first....
Just caught bits and pieces, but is that the new launcher you’re using to select the maps and stuff? I’m a steam user so I don’t imagine I’ll have much use for it but just curious.

How have you got icon of f15 in your mission editor
Go to Options at the main menu and change the Icons from NATO to Russian
I think maps are moving this direction in DCS for good, the satellite photo-generated bit. I personally think it sucks, I didn't like SA map so much, not terribly impressed with Kola either. I miss the days of actually making the map and wish ED would go back to it.
problem is that some maps actually looked worse or were a lot less accurate ( just like persian gulf) or ran at way lower performance (like the channel or normandy)

What graphics preset are you using?
He showed his settings twice on the stream. Everything is on maximum. It's not a graphics issue. It's yet another half arsed early access release for DCS. It's ridiculous at this point.
I just downloaded the map and flew from Kandahar to Tarinkowt. I think this map looks Amazing!!! And good performance also!
Don’t like the map! Feels like SA. Google image printed on the map. Been there myself during deployments and low level don’t feel great! Even the stunning mountains in RL feels weird in game and don’t even look at the real mountains.
Floating rivers were most are dried out during summer. Just pasted the river on the google image. Very disappointed.
Yes, not enough polygons to keep these afghan hills rocky enough.
Yeah, I feel you. In game the graphics looks great from up high, but on deck it feels like looking around a plastic model. I don't feel the distance in VR at low altitudes, it feels like a miniature hills I can reach out and touch with my hand, despite of these being like a kilometer away in the game.
@@KrustentierBarbier Of course in trailers they get the best angles against the sun, etc. We need dynamic tesselation, nanite and other stuff that only UE5 currently offers.

The map is seriously bad. I am fed up with ED and their empty promises. They are really lost the plot now! I feel cheated more than ever before with this map.
Maybe you should consult the ED FAQ regarding early access.
It literally states:"Early Access is an option for you to play this module in an early state, but it will be incomplete with bugs."
Who gives a fuck about textures.
