Casey, I recommend you look into animism. But the short answer is that "spirit" can mean a lot of things, most of them not dead people.
True, Ori is a “spirit” too, but in this case the race opponents were referred to as ghosts

Edit: also, this is random but I feel like mentioning it because Ian loves game breaking (don't worry, no spoilers) but try using down smash with the hammer on the bouncy blue plants and thank me later

I wish the shards were a little bit more visually distinct from each other, like HK's charms. When you're looking at the menu the symbols can very easily blur together since they're all the same color.

To get past that big log, you had to break through the side. It glows white when you're near it to give you a hint.
You're misremembering the Overflow shard. It only converts life or energy to each other, if you get more when your pool is already full. If you want more spirit light, I recommend Spirit Harvest and possibly Bounty.
7:22 I mean yes, you could always go down there if you broke the breakable log. Which you did like 20 seconds earlier when you smashed it. But neither of you noticed the path opening up.

The Spirit Shard Ian was thinking of around 12:00 was indeed "Overflow", i.e. converts excess Life pickups to Energy _or vice versa._
Anyway, by this point you have about 3 areas left:
- Mouldwood Depths (story)
- Midnight Burrows (optional)
- The final Wisp & endgame
Overflow is my favorite shard. Saved my ass on boss fights lol.
With that one log early on that you thought was blocking your path but wasn't, there was a breakable bit you broke without noticing.,
Completely agree with what you're saying here about hate online and how it gets out of proportion. If someone does or says something deserving of a response of "hey don't do that, you're hurting people," the criticism should stay limited to the specific thing they did. In some cases, it might even be something they did in ignorance of how bad it was, but they still get dogpiled on with hate from all directions.
16:40 See, that's why I never bought any of the maps until the very end. It's easier to notice missed secrets that way.
4:27 Will of the Wisps may be less linear than Blind Forest but that's why I have commented about doing Mouldwood depths before Luma Pools or even Baur's Reach, although I said it was my personal preference.

Same. As someone who has messed around with Ori's Abyss Runes in Rivals of Aether a lot, I love the Spirit Star both there and in Will of the Wisps.

They said it was going to be an exploration part and they stumbled into story. It would be different if they didn't say upfront they wanted to explore or intentionally went to find story stuff 🤷🏿♂️
