They shot this video in the Mojave Desert outside of Barstow, California. This is to represent the original meanings of the lyrics. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, but it should be noted that the great songwriter Leonard Cohen wrote this NOT as a religious song (Cohen was a Jewish-born atheist), but instead he used intentionally mixed Old Testament Biblical references and metaphors to tell a story of lost love, lust, sex, heartbreak, isolation and loneliness. The video in the desert was intended to visually represent that isolation. This was the song that first introduced me to Pentatonix and I was instantly hooked. They are the best a cappella group in the world.
Pentatonix = The Best. Oh my!! PTX is deeeeeeeep rabbit hole so many songs!!! "Can you feel the Love tonight" Their original "Happy Now" is the best feel good song in a while!! you will be smiling!
Try 'Amazing Grace, My Chains are Gone' next for Pentatonix. It is heaven brought to earth. Beyond that, try anything from PTX that is of interest to you. They have so many songs covered and originals. There was a group member change a number of years back; the original bass singer Avi Kaplan left the group and was replaced by Matt Sallie. Both are tremendous singers.
We second everything Mark Raymond said. There are hundreds of great PTX songs to explore, but Amazing Grace is outstanding. When you’re ready for more, add bohemian rhapsody and say something. Enjoy! New subs here…
While the message of the song can be seen as rather dark, even depressing, speaking as it does of the emptiness within us all, this rendition is so beautiful that it lifts the soul and shows just what we humans can do.
If you continue to react to Pentatonix (PTX for short), their legions of fans (called Pentaholics) will flock to your channel. Set up a Playlist for all your PTX reactions!

Absolutely agree with you, it's rather dark but at the same time uplifting for some reason. Beautifully delivered ❤⚘
Hallelujah is heartbreaking sad song about a sad and broken love.
