This video is like a time machine that takes me back to my youth, I flew B747 Swissair in total 15 times from 1985 to 2000 including the last flight to ATL in 8/1/2000... Long time memories also the announcements elegant and with discretion. I used to fly the BOS flight and ATL in the late years
I was lucky enough to do a SR110 flight in the cockpit of the Swissair B747-300 Geneva (GVA) to New-York (JFK) in October 1989. The captain was a Dutch national working for Swissair, who accepted me for the whole flight in the cockpit. Spendid day across the Atlantic, I think I didn't see a single cloud during the almost 8H flight, just one of these glorious early fall season day. I did also the retun flight in the cockpit as well, but this time I remember hitting a large CB at the destination airport, it was like crashing into a gigantic white wall at around FL100. We got a low speed alarm on the ILS at some point, then the pilot just moved his hands very slightly on the power lever, and then seconds after you could sense the push forward from the 4 P&W engines. What a rush it was.
Indeed, but you were also paying much more than today, so service standards were also higher. But that you can't smoke anymore isn't really a bad thing... I have no desire to sit in a smoke-filled cabin or directly next to a chain smoker for the next 8 to 10 flight hours.
I went up on the flight deck in my very first airplane flight, 1977, a 747 from Edmonton to London Gatwick; and again in the late 1980s, aboard an A310, both flown by Wardair. Now I’m a cabin crew member and get to go up there all the time but recognize what a very special privilege it is.
Wonderful to see some 90s liveries. I flew Swissair in 1988, and there was a (false) bomb scare threatened against our plane pre-take off at JFK. Maybe that's why other Swissair planes parked near EL AL for security reasons?

This is so so so so amazing
Thank you for the great footage. Especially in view of the technology at that time. 😊
Yes back in the days when flying was relaxed and enjoyable and you could smoke.
