I was lucky enough to do a SR110 flight in the cockpit of the Swissair B747-300 Geneva (GVA) to New-York (JFK) in October 1989. The captain was a Dutch national working for Swissair, who accepted me for the whole flight in the cockpit. Spendid day across the Atlantic, I think I didn't see a single cloud during the almost 8H flight, just one of these glorious early fall season day. I did also the retun flight in the cockpit as well, but this time I remember hitting a large CB at the destination airport, it was like crashing into a gigantic white wall at around FL100. We got a low speed alarm on the ILS at some point, then the pilot just moved his hands very slightly on the power lever, and then seconds after you could sense the push forward from the 4 P&W engines. What a rush it was.

Ah, the days when the western suburbs of Melbourne were just paddocks! Do you have any idea how long Ansett had the Australian flag liveries? They started to phase them out in favour of the "starmark" livery in 1994-1996 I think??

The 727 was a very loud jet , we used to live in a flight path in Adelaide when I was a kid , on take off and approach they were damn loud compared to the 737, 747

Thanks! Never seen a BA DC10 at LHR apart from a photo with one of them sitting on a tango gate at T4. Used to regularly fly on them from and to LGW in the early 90s.

Off to NYC on Concorde in 1996? Those were the good old days….. You flew to New York drinking out of the classic crystalware, all of the men on the plane would be wearing lounge suits with side partings, the pilots would sound like Prince Charles, and you would be landing in the NYC at its absolute best when the streets were buzzing with positive energy, everyone was out and out socialising, Home Alone 2 was only 4 years old, and the American heart was beating strong, and Greta Twatberg and her disgusting generation wasn’t even born…. It makes you wonder what happened- the world has turned upside down….
