Tier 9-10 is just a nightmare most of the time aside from the rare CV/Sub-less Games but even then the long-range HE spam Radar Cruisers still get in there so theirs's almost no escaping from the BS.
For anyone interested, the U-4501 was a historical design, the Type XXVI U-boat. The IRL stats were 11 knots surfaced and 24-26 knots underwater, the latter being achieved with a Walter hydrogen peroxide gas turbine.

I picked her up too Mountbatten. She definitely plays completely differently than other submarines. The standard trick of either staying on the surface or at PD and pinging perpendicular to the target doesn't really work. She's too slow and as you said, any time you turn, you bleed speed like a stuck pig. I've found that if you execute attack runs like a BF-109 or FW-190 attacking a concentration of Flying Fortresses she's a very dangerous ship. Perhaps a better analogy is you almost have to play her like the YOLO Emilo. If you choose the right Captain skills you can get her underwater endurance to 4:47 seconds, which helps. And, before anyone start ragging on a sub player.. Yes, I hate myself too. :)

There are great pictures of planes using tanks of TiCl4 to draw "curtains" of smoke in the Pacific during WW2. And you certainly heard of the Bismark and how it used smoke. Well, just let me tell you that's the kind of smoke that will kill you if you breathe too much of it and will rust your shit for sure ! Cant remember which Italian BB the Germans hunted and tried to sink but it too used a very nasty chemical smoke.

Yes. Yesterday i tried to fight back. this submare with benson and oland. He sub was able to troll benson. But with oland i fought well but only becouse both times had speed boost ready.
This the Gato and super ships is why I mostly play tier V - VII and am no longer interested in anymore premium ships. WOWs might be too clever by half because I suspect there is a growing population of like-minded players
This one seems easily counterable. If its underwater, sure you have to count with that speed, but it seems like your everyday t6 sub moved to t10 outfitted with better torps.
I have it and I’m a shit sub player but it’s so strong that even I have incredible games in it. It’s literally impossible to depth charge by dds and it’s so fast that it outruns saw planes it’s an insane boat.
I’ve got it and the best way I’ve found to play it is to really exploit the speed to get in and get out quick. Spend most of your time at 30m depth, bait with the front torps, turn and ping sonar, wait for DCS, dump the rear tubes and reping sonar, heal and charge for the next attack run.
I picked this one up for coal, and its not bad. I prefer the play styles of the Gato and the S189 myself with the long range unguided torps, as i believe that a subs job is to see and not be seen. Pinging with homing torps usually give you away before you want to be seen.
Well if you can aim the torps well enough you do not NEED the Ping, the torps will hit the target regardless. The only time you NEED the ping is Sub V Sub Combat or maybe fighting Destroyers less your a cheeky submariner and bait them into drifting into your torpedoes.
The main problem that i had is closing the distance while not being detected by enemy underwater search So im trying to drive accros the entire map and sit in enemy spawn Hoping for someone to chase me However radar, planes or no team to spot for you REALLY hurts your performance
Has anyone wondered why WOWs doesn’t have as much cyclones/ storms anymore? That was fun to just be in a DD and dropping in on a BB or being in a BB & catching a CA or CL broadside to you.

Any ship "In the Right Hands" is terrifying to deal with. I like the RUclipsrs that complain about submarines but dont think anything about playing BBs with 100k plus HP and multiple heals that delete ships (shotgunning) from across the map with shells that deal more damage than a torp ever could.
So she only has HOMING Torps, is SLOW on the Surface, and while VERY SMALL also has a Small HP POOL and Air Supply. But that UNDERWATER SPEED! Seems like a very Balanced Sub all things considered. Sure she's faster underwater but you can only be down their for so long. Seems like the Panicle of the German Submarine Line, Meant to be played underwater for long periods, has grate homing torps (not like she has other options), BUT her air supply is bit on the low side as a trade off for her grate speed.
Damage wise I wouldnt say it is busted It becomes very weak if it doesnt have a team spotting for it. The main issue is that periscope speed is 20 knots, thus pinging or spotting is very dangerous
It is by far the most difficult sub to master. I changed skills on my captain around 6-7 times as I was switching play styles until I got to were I can deal a lot of dmg.

When they first introduced subs in testing I tried them twice, struggled a lot, haven’t touched them since. I might pick it up purely on historical merit, so if they then Smolensk it, then I’ll still have it and can take it into training rooms or coop
One of these took out my T10 BB is less than two minutes. Never saw it. I'm getting more and more T10 level games where the subs and DDs are at least half the ships in any match. Will we get to the point where World of Warships is basically DDs, subs and CVs? Seems to be the trend.

HelzBelz_2022 here, I have a 60%+ win rate in Ranked and between 50% to 60% win rate in Randoms depending on the week with match making. And that is with Subs. No this this sub is broken in all honesty. Yes I agree with the low HP pool, having the heal only work on the surface, the slow speed on the surface. However the Sub itself is broken because all it has is straight line speed. If you are diving you can be going 20 kt and then drop to 12 kt while you are diving. The time it takes you to turn is totally broken. You cannot maneuver at all around the maps with small Islands in this sub where as the other subs you can. It is terribly designed for how tier 10 battles are and you have so many weaknesses that you have to play the first few minutes of the game NOT playing the game. So yesterday I played many matches with this sub. If I went and got into the fight when everyone starts to fire at each other, 9 times out of 10 I had gotten killed so fast with charges. However when I held back for a good 3 minutes or so while everyone was fighting each other I was able to come in and do a lot of damage. I had 3 or 4 matches where I was doing 70K+ damage my best was around 91K damage 13 hits 2 10K floods. I was also able to kill several overly aggressive subs who while I was hanging back I was able to deal with them quickly. Maybe that was the design of this sub which was to sit back and let people come to you. However If you have to wait 3 to 4 minutes from the time the engagement starts your team can be very quickly destroyed. How they need to fix this ship is fix the maneuverability. I shouldnt be dropping 8 kt when I dive, I should not be going from 36 kt under water to 25kt when turning NO joke this is a smaller ship not a big BB. The turn Radius should be cut down drastically. Its a small ship that should be very maneuverable. However its like an under water battleship with no armor or hp.
Lets also add in here if you turn under water you go from 36 kt down to 20 kt. Yea this sub is totally fucked the way it is with maneuverability. It is not worth the coal.
I do not have a problem if a player plays a sub, I have a problem when 2 sub bots are played by wargaming!! I also have dropped in tier to avoid them as much as possible!! In a perfect world you should be able to have a choice if you want to play with subs or not!!

Good thing about subs - they will always spawn on the same side as the friendly sub. how I deal with them? Just turn away from the flank where the friendly sub is. Done fighting subs in this game...

The few times I saw (or watched footage of) the Testers sailing her in Randoms, they died swiftly. It was the same with the RN subs during Test. Much like the RN subs, you’ll be able to get performance out of them with effort and guile. But there are better subs.
Try to not ping. It's often not needed, and gives away your position. You do not need to ping homing torpedoes. It's entirely optional. So it's kind of the Yolo Emilio of subs, but with diving instead of smoke. They got the history very wrong. First half 20th Century subs should be much slower underwater than at the surface. Modern submarines are faster underwater than at the surface, but that's not the time period of the game.
Average 7 min game but you can be under water for 4 mins, that's still a lot of underwater game time, given surface to charge, you are under water 5 1/2 mins per 7 min game

The Soviet-era Alpha class was thought to be capable of a maximim speed of 76kmh submerged - but at anywhere near that speed it would be making so much noise you could drop a tin can attached to a string over the side and hear it coming from miles away....
All subs are busted - simply thanks to invisibility and DD-like torp possibilities. In balanced game you cannot have both but clearly for WG unbalanced gameplay is not an issue.

Why do we have subs that have DD speed underwater and torps that travel at the speed of light? Consider that the average WoWs match lasts no more than 5 or so mins and the distance from spawn to firing position, the average player will lose interest in said subs.
Tbh, although im a BB player on console, id like to see Subs added, only for the reason that im a Sub vet irl. I think itd be neat, and i wouldnt have to start over playing on PC.
As a BB player, you will absolutely hate subs. When one targets you, you will be dead soon. unless you are lucky or they are really bad at playing sub. You can't fight what you can't see.

That's true - faster submerged than surfaced due to hydrodynamic effects. Never actually completed but the design speeds were 20kmh surfaced and 44 kmh submerged. And the vast majority of modern subs are way faster submerged than surfaced.
As an avid sub player, I will not pursue this sub. It has way too many issues. And quite honestly, it's being way overhyped, which is not a surprise. Why was there no mention of sub on sub fight often often now subs are working In unison with ships to spot other subs as well as to take them down. Much like the DD on DD in Cap situations, no way can this defend itself against another sub, not to mention Low health pool,low maneuverabilit, low damage per Torp. Just All around port sub. However, i'm sure people will watch the Video's about this sub and go out and spend hard earned cash or a coal. Also I wonder if these videos are just to gin up the anti sub crowd and get a reaction alike. A click a comment. It's not really a threat.
I think SeaLord is pretty fair about Subs. Earlier this year, he encouraged his viewers, even the sub-haters, to play them to learn how to counter them. That's what I did (actually, I was down on the game at the time, and it felt good to play in the alternate reality of subs for a while); and it's still a valid point, to know thine enemy. Yeah, he didn't cover sub-on-sub action here. I got the U-4501 and it does suffer in that context. I was up against a U-2501 and he just owned me b/c his detection consumable is 9km vs. my 6km. Plus, U-2501 has way more fwd-facing torps and can go at you, whereas U-4501 is back-heavy on the torps. A Balao or a Gato is way more of a concern for surface ships than this thing. U-4501 is highly situational.
I will consider her to get, I was anticipating coal sub to be released after Gato release. I got Gato in 1st day and it is no way broken. No shotgunning by me. Well, I have finished Ohio once in Convoy mode but that done with U-190 for 30K salvo, by closing in, but rather from enemy bow. Most subs run underwater relatively slowly, so maneuver to get optimal position is pretty hard, but this can make fast concealed close in to be useable tactics, kind of Paolo. But torp damage is not there to cripple healthy target. U4501 seems to get some good use of Lutjens as spotting is natural but not well manageable thing.
There are 2 kinds of broken that look "balanced". The ones that are just dumb derpers. (The KV2s of the games.) These are just annoying. Not really in terms of balancing i.e. winrate, but they just have no fun counterplay. It's just luck. Then there are the difficult but OP things. These are things that are difficult to master (and until that point, quite shit) but once you mastered it, they are super op and have no real counterplay. Think "modern fighter jet", none of us would even manage to take off. But once you are a fighter pilot, you have not much to fear from the ground soldiers.

Just another reason why this game is dying. WG introduced this class of ship (submarine) when up to 80% of the player base said they did not want it. No the player base is barely at 10K on a good night. WG is killing their product by simply NOT listening to their player base.
in WWII, subs could go 6-9 knots underwater. WG broke them by design. I think hurt gameplay too. Having to deal with a slow underwater speed would make sub play a lot more challenging, with a higher pucker factor (in addition to being at least somewhere within the realm of feasability. Just stop pretending you care about actual designs, and just make it an arcade)

I have this SUB and i must say u can do fun things with it esp3cially against CVs but its not OP speed is ok underwater but its limited due to air.. and very vulnarable on surface despite lowest conceal 5.4km Smallhp pool makes this sub play carefull silent hunter but the heal allowes to patch up bruises on those times when u replenish air supply Overall i give this 7.5/10 not the best Gato still holds nr1 spot. 😢

I found that building into battery time was very beneficial. Also enlarged propeller is huge.

If the subs are going faster then we need to improve the speeds of some tier X DD's and remove the shotgun capabilities of the subs.
If you start to flood this ship barely tanks any damage from it. That’s one thing I noticed.

Biggest problem are probably the acceleration phases when you have dived
HelzBelz_2022 here, I have a 60%+ win rate in Ranked and between 50% to 60% win rate in Randoms depending on the week with match making. And that is with Subs.
No this this sub is broken in all honesty. Yes I agree with the low HP pool, having the heal only work on the surface, the slow speed on the surface. However the Sub itself is broken because all it has is straight line speed. If you are diving you can be going 20 kt and then drop to 12 kt while you are diving. The time it takes you to turn is totally broken. You cannot maneuver at all around the maps with small Islands in this sub where as the other subs you can. It is terribly designed for how tier 10 battles are and you have so many weaknesses that you have to play the first few minutes of the game NOT playing the game.
So yesterday I played many matches with this sub. If I went and got into the fight when everyone starts to fire at each other, 9 times out of 10 I had gotten killed so fast with charges. However when I held back for a good 3 minutes or so while everyone was fighting each other I was able to come in and do a lot of damage. I had 3 or 4 matches where I was doing 70K+ damage my best was around 91K damage 13 hits 2 10K floods.
I was also able to kill several overly aggressive subs who while I was hanging back I was able to deal with them quickly.
Maybe that was the design of this sub which was to sit back and let people come to you. However If you have to wait 3 to 4 minutes from the time the engagement starts your team can be very quickly destroyed.
How they need to fix this ship is fix the maneuverability. I shouldnt be dropping 8 kt when I dive, I should not be going from 36 kt under water to 25kt when turning NO joke this is a smaller ship not a big BB. The turn Radius should be cut down drastically. Its a small ship that should be very maneuverable. However its like an under water battleship with no armor or hp.
Lets also add in here if you turn under water you go from 36 kt down to 20 kt. Yea this sub is totally fucked the way it is with maneuverability. It is not worth the coal.
Make it even harder to gauge drops on depth charges
I do not have a problem if a player plays a sub, I have a problem when 2 sub bots are played by wargaming!! I also have dropped in tier to avoid them as much as possible!! In a perfect world you should be able to have a choice if you want to play with subs or not!!

@@jaywerner8415 If the firendly sub is a good player, he will spot the enemy subs for the rest of the team to airstrike and depth charge. Yes, I know teamwork is rare, but it does happen sometimes.
@@LoanwordEggcorn That is true, and that is what i tend to do. After all, best way to Detect a Submarine is a Enemy Submarine, so may as well KILL THEM FIRST.
Of course this does require teammate to be nearby to use said DC planes but their is usually at least 1.

The few times I saw (or watched footage of) the Testers sailing her in Randoms, they died swiftly. It was the same with the RN subs during Test. Much like the RN subs, you’ll be able to get performance out of them with effort and guile. But there are better subs.

Try to not ping. It's often not needed, and gives away your position. You do not need to ping homing torpedoes. It's entirely optional.
So it's kind of the Yolo Emilio of subs, but with diving instead of smoke.
They got the history very wrong. First half 20th Century subs should be much slower underwater than at the surface. Modern submarines are faster underwater than at the surface, but that's not the time period of the game.

Average 7 min game but you can be under water for 4 mins, that's still a lot of underwater game time, given surface to charge, you are under water 5 1/2 mins per 7 min game

The Soviet-era Alpha class was thought to be capable of a maximim speed of 76kmh submerged - but at anywhere near that speed it would be making so much noise you could drop a tin can attached to a string over the side and hear it coming from miles away....
Not all subs can mach this speed. Only nuclear.
All subs are busted - simply thanks to invisibility and DD-like torp possibilities. In balanced game you cannot have both but clearly for WG unbalanced gameplay is not an issue.

Why do we have subs that have DD speed underwater and torps that travel at the speed of light? Consider that the average WoWs match lasts no more than 5 or so mins and the distance from spawn to firing position, the average player will lose interest in said subs.

Tbh, although im a BB player on console, id like to see Subs added, only for the reason that im a Sub vet irl. I think itd be neat, and i wouldnt have to start over playing on PC.

As a BB player, you will absolutely hate subs. When one targets you, you will be dead soon. unless you are lucky or they are really bad at playing sub. You can't fight what you can't see.

That's true - faster submerged than surfaced due to hydrodynamic effects. Never actually completed but the design speeds were 20kmh surfaced and 44 kmh submerged.
And the vast majority of modern subs are way faster submerged than surfaced.

As an avid sub player, I will not pursue this sub. It has way too many issues. And quite honestly, it's being way overhyped, which is not a surprise. Why was there no mention of sub on sub fight often often now subs are working In unison with ships to spot other subs as well as to take them down. Much like the DD on DD in Cap situations, no way can this defend itself against another sub, not to mention Low health pool,low maneuverabilit, low damage per Torp.
Just All around port sub. However, i'm sure people will watch the Video's about this sub and go out and spend hard earned cash or a coal. Also I wonder if these videos are just to gin up the anti sub crowd and get a reaction alike. A click a comment. It's not really a threat.
I think SeaLord is pretty fair about Subs. Earlier this year, he encouraged his viewers, even the sub-haters, to play them to learn how to counter them. That's what I did (actually, I was down on the game at the time, and it felt good to play in the alternate reality of subs for a while); and it's still a valid point, to know thine enemy. Yeah, he didn't cover sub-on-sub action here. I got the U-4501 and it does suffer in that context. I was up against a U-2501 and he just owned me b/c his detection consumable is 9km vs. my 6km. Plus, U-2501 has way more fwd-facing torps and can go at you, whereas U-4501 is back-heavy on the torps. A Balao or a Gato is way more of a concern for surface ships than this thing. U-4501 is highly situational.

I got Gato in 1st day and it is no way broken.
No shotgunning by me. Well, I have finished Ohio once in Convoy mode but that done with U-190 for 30K salvo, by closing in, but rather from enemy bow.
Most subs run underwater relatively slowly, so maneuver to get optimal position is pretty hard, but this can make fast concealed close in to be useable tactics, kind of Paolo. But torp damage is not there to cripple healthy target.
U4501 seems to get some good use of Lutjens as spotting is natural but not well manageable thing.
There are 2 kinds of broken that look "balanced".
The ones that are just dumb derpers. (The KV2s of the games.) These are just annoying. Not really in terms of balancing i.e. winrate, but they just have no fun counterplay. It's just luck.
Then there are the difficult but OP things. These are things that are difficult to master (and until that point, quite shit) but once you mastered it, they are super op and have no real counterplay.
Think "modern fighter jet", none of us would even manage to take off. But once you are a fighter pilot, you have not much to fear from the ground soldiers.

Just another reason why this game is dying. WG introduced this class of ship (submarine) when up to 80% of the player base said they did not want it. No the player base is barely at 10K on a good night. WG is killing their product by simply NOT listening to their player base.
in WWII, subs could go 6-9 knots underwater. WG broke them by design. I think hurt gameplay too. Having to deal with a slow underwater speed would make sub play a lot more challenging, with a higher pucker factor (in addition to being at least somewhere within the realm of feasability. Just stop pretending you care about actual designs, and just make it an arcade)
This is outdated unfortunately. With all the changes to sub mechanics and the nerfs, subs just aren't that fun to play anymore. No more shotgunning!!

Despite of it being a complete BS. I think this is a Sub that every sub should be. A low HP high risk high reward ship.
I have this SUB and i must say u can do fun things with it esp3cially against CVs but its not OP speed is ok underwater but its limited due to air.. and very vulnarable on surface despite lowest conceal 5.4km
Smallhp pool makes this sub play carefull silent hunter but the heal allowes to patch up bruises on those times when u replenish air supply
Overall i give this 7.5/10 not the best
