I’ve been waiting for this video to come out! Not that it’s any particular subject, I just need to get things picked up around my house and love to listen to your broadcast as I do! Thank you!

    My best motivation advice:
You're never going to feel like it. Motivation FOLLOWS action. Just stand up and start with the tiniest step possible, and then congratulate yourself for every step.
This has helped me get something done even with my ADHD and seasonal depression.

I really like listening while cleaning, too. It is very calming and encouraging. I usually go around and pick up several items to get rid of also while listening to the Clutter Fairy.

I absolutely love this week's presentation! I've been following along for some years now, and all your videos are helpful, but this one was just really on point for what I'm dealing w this week - thank you so much Gayle and Ed, you guys are the best and I appreciate your work so much! 💞

One thing I've added in my decluttering journey = is to think about where I will store extra purchases, especially bulky items like toilet paper if on sale, before actually making the purchase. This helps alot. I really ponder easy access to multiple purchase items, so that I know at a glance what I have to not over buy.😊

I just decluttered printed family photos for the first time ever in my life... 40 years worth of thousands of photos to give to family members. I digitally scanned these photos, but could not bring myself to just throw the original printed copy away. I vastly underestimated the amount of time this project took... the scanning, sorting, and getting them to the right person took months, and messed up my whole house. And I was surprised at how many boxes of old photos I had stashed away in closets all over the house. It was very emotionally exhausting to look at all those photos. I am so glad the younger generation only has digital photos, and they will never have to go through this work. And I love the bound printed books they can order, of the very best of their digital photos.

I wish I heard this video before I made a huge mistake! My biggest problem is too many old clothes. Not even nice clothes just almost never throwing any away. Anyway, I became soooo motivated to accomplish this decluttering task that I worked on my old clothes almost exclusively for three days. Then the rest of my house became a dirty mess (we live on a farm and this happens very quickly) and I became discouraged that I didn’t finish my big project. Thanks you two for your RUclips channel. I’m ready to take a more balanced approach to this. It’s hard when you have an all or nothing mentality though haha. But, something is better than nothing😊

I live on a farm too and do most of the daily tasks and if I don't do them they don't get done. I also have young children in the home that are my responsibility that won't get taken care of if I don't do it. It's hard to do anything else. And that's okay. The most important tasks have to come first - ie the living. ☺️

I have started (but not finished) the process of decluttering our pantry. I finally am accepting that I am not a health freak and neither are my family and nor am I v creative in the kitchen (because my family are extremely fussy and like plain boring food). So I can finally get rid of all the protein powders and health supplements and outdated spices and gluten free flours etc which were taking up a lot of room but never getting used. And I can fill up the shelves with easy to access snacks for my children (that ok aren’t healthy but lets face it, they eat) - instead of making them climb up to the high cupboard to reach them. Time to get real about what we eat and make things easy.

Still trying to develop effective habits for time and maintenance in the home, but I can at least say simply moving out of my parents' place has helped. You see, this area in FL I learned has AM VET trucks visit our curbside every few months. My first donation was 2 trash bags full when I got the flyer with a date in the mail. This time, however, not even half a bag! Always on the lookout for donations because this "complimentary" service keeps me accountable without second guessing. Side note: helps especially because I don't have everyday access to goodwill or other donation centers. Some of the old craft supplies help in my childcare job too. Thanks for all your support. :)

Speaking of laundry, I HAVE to fold it as it comes out of the dryer. Then I calculate which pile goes EAST (bedroom and bath) and which pile goes WEST (kitchen and living room throw blankets) it is so much faster to just ' get er done' now, than let it pile up. Anything like tshirts no longer worn get ripped into strips and crocheted or braided into rag rugs (while I relax while listening to podcasts or watching movies) maybe not that day, but at least I'm not letting too much accumulate, and my grandkids out grown clothes goes in the sell or donate boxes.

I'm w/Ed on the bed laundry stacking = I stack on chair nearby, but thankfully, bc of these videos-> it doesn't stay there long.😊 I also have a built-in window seat for folding & stacking if needed.

Sunday: The weather let me finally finish my planter boxes painting. I reviewed the eight storage bins in the garage and was able to reduce the number by two. Three bins are 2 of Christmas and one of Fall/ Halloween . The rest are hub’s and beyond my control. At least they match and are neatly shelved on a heavy duty steel rack. My ugly little garage got a good sweep down and out. Happy to say we are critter free!

I’ve been listening to you for a couple years now and you’ve helped me let go of self-created sentimentality about objects and to drastically reduce what I bring in-- until recently. With everything going on and my husband’s insistence I have made a lot of purchases of essentials in an effort to lessen the effects of rising prices. I’m not talking doomsday prepping but my basement has reached maximum density. I practically have a panic attack if I’m down there. I do not handle the visual assault of clutter very well and now to be sure the things I bought are not wasted I have to spend quite a bit of time keeping inventory and rotating items etc. I also worry that financially it will not be easy to replace items I get rid of. I’m wondering if other people are experiencing this? I appreciate that your videos are always calming and help to remind me of the true cost of clutter. Believe me the cost is higher than at the cash register! My plan now is to stop buying, use what I have and to remind myself that seasonal decorations will not save me during an Apocalypse and It’s okay let them go. 🤦‍♀️

I’m sorry your basement is stressing you out. It’s been 10 months since you posted, do how are you feeling now? Have you been able to use some of your stash and reduce your stress some, or no?

I love the idea of listening to this while doing some boring chores or organizing/decluttering! I'm doing that right now! :)
I have a fun habit to make the bed. First, I set up coffee to brew in my Keurig, which only takes a minute. While it's brewing, I quickly make the bed. The FUN part is that my dog loves to jump on the bed each time a put a blanket on it. He brings a toy for me to throw. I put three blankets on. Sometimes, he even gets covered in the blanket, which he loves. It makes a boring quick task super fun. And I get to play with my dog in my morning rush to get ready for work. Win-win!
My sister gave me a great tip too, which I have started. Before bed, she puts the kettle on for a cup of herbal tea. While the kettle is warming up the water, she starts the dishes. Even if the dishes aren't done when she puts the tea bag in, she likes to let it steep, so she gets an extra few minutes to finish up the dishes. I tried it last night, and it was nice to wake up to a clean kitchen instead of a sink full of dishes.

I went through gardening supplies in shed, and cleaning and home repair supplies in the garage. I imagined you were clearing my estate out! Donating and giving to friends. Putting kitty litter in two leftover gallon paint pails for disposal . I am keeping the piece of drywall for now, though!

Starting in March every year my clutter free home becomes extremely cluttered. I spend my time preparing the garden and planting..this goes on till June. Today I started the declutter. Couldn't get anywhere with it. Trying to decide where things go and if I need it...then I suddenly remembered the question!!! The question is.."If I'm looking for this, where is the first place I'd look"!!! If I would never look for it,then out it goes. The rest I run to its home.. I've got so much done in the last 3 hours!!!!!!! Hope this helps someone!!

In regards to comment from lg family-> we have friends w/ a lg family = they have much given to them, & the mom keeps it recycled out the door. Also, they have a lg walk-in closet (a sm rm) which is for the whole family to pick from.
