If Brian Jones was the most talented of The Rolling Stones, then it would have been him writing and composing Jumping Jack Flash not Mick Jagger and Keith Richards who transformed the group from Brian Jones version of being a Blues Covers Band, to a band who wrote there own hits and creating a new and exciting brand of Rock Music. Brian Jones was an amazing talent in being a multi-instrumentalist, who could learn new instruments quickly. But he wasn’t a creative force like Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are by far the biggest talents in The Rolling Stones.
There has never been anyone cooler than Brian Jones, he was way ahead of his time & should never be forgotten. Too much airbrushing of Brian from Stones history for my liking. No Jones,no Stones.
Brian Jones was a multi instrumentalist, he played Brass Section, Oboe, Organ, Dulcimer, Mellotron, Slide guitar, Harmonica, Recorder, Sitar, Marimba, Saxophone, Percussions, Keyboards, and harpsichord. Paul McCartney invited Brian to play saxophone on Baby You Know My Name. He brought Moroccan music to the attention of the rock world, he recorded the Brian Jones Presents the Pipes of Pan at Joujouka, in Morocco. Bill Wyman stated in his book Stone Alone that they were trying to wipe, Brian from the band, and said he won’t let that happen. Bill also points out in his book that Brian started the band , picked the name for the band and hand picked the members. Brian had more talent than the other 4 original members put together.
OK. I confess. I watched this when it was first broadcast. A long, long time ago. I was mesmerized and couldn't take my eyes off Brian. Right then and there the world shifted on its axis.
Brian Jones was a class act. He has been in eternal sleep for nearly fifty years, but clips like this is a reminder of his enduring charisma after so many decades. Dean Martin didn't know that his ring- a- ding days, would soon be a thing of the past when the Stones arrived on US shores in 1965....
Dean Martin was an icon of the age. Give this MAN his credit for letting his shows producers to do this. Most likely they told him, but let us just give Dean his way if so! It did work out well I guess! Stoned!! again!
Manly Men Yea really eh ? That's a bit offensive . I'm hoping that what they meant was this was with Brian , rather then Mick Taylor , or Ronnie Wood , but we have eyes ... we can see this was the original Stones , so I don't know what they were thinking with that statement .
Shannon Traynor Stright indeed. He was a talented multi instrumentalist..but a combination of arrogance and misguided drug use meant he didn’t show up for tour gigs. They were all young lads making their way and can’t be held responsible for Jones downfall. Not sure how the band have kept going for over 50 years if Jones was the stones however...has he a ghostly hold over their careers? Lol
The Rolling Stones ARE AMERICA'S #1 Rock Band (Even Thought They Started In Jolly Old) These Guys Have Been The Highlight Of My Parties For The Last 50+ Years !!! God Bless The Stones !!!!!
❤👍 I'VE BEEN A ROLLING STONES FAN FOR MANY YEARS. MY FAVORITE SINGER IS BRIAN JONES. CHARISMATIC SINGER. AMAZING, TALENTED, LEGENDARY. I AM 74 AND LOVES THIS OLD SONGS. NICE MUSIC VIDEO. GREETINGS FROM BULGARIA 🇧🇬
Every Rolling Stone video I've clicked on Brian is playing a different instrument, he's talented as fuck! Love his dance moves at the very end of this video!
To say that Brian was the most troubled is an under statement .. stemming back since childhood .. by not only under minding his parents ... to taking menial jobs around his home town only to be fired from for theft and time issues .. to being both physically and mentally abusive to his girl friends ... and had been deemed being combative and disrespectful to authority figures .. Although Brian was said to be a bright youngster he seemed to have many problems ... according to Life Magazine and Treasures Of The Rolling Stones .
Harpischord, guitar, piano, drums, horns. THE PIPES OF JOUJUKA!!!! This man wasnt nobody to be trifles with music wise. Jones taught Jagger how to master that harp!!!!!! Not an easy task to say the least.
Ahem, Brian could not play oboe, bassoon, viola, violin trombone, trumpet, french horn, clarinet, saxophone, cello, timpani, flute and drums, vibraphone, etc, etc,
I love this recording and especially Brian Jones on harmonica. I saw them in Seattle in 65 and 66. I even recorded the 66 concert with a Norelco recorder. I wish I had saved it. It was no problem bringing the recorder in! Not good quality, of course. Brian had many demons, but what talent.
one of my classic favorite songs. absolutely loved hearing it live. I always look forward to hearing it when I see Further.... makes you feel what it's all about
STONES! Wow! I remember watching this live way back then and wondering what Dean Martin was all cheesed off about. The Stones at the height of their power...great show.
A purely revealing moment in the band's early history. Here we see them utterly engrossed in musically delivering a performance on the unforgiving medium of live television, without the distractions or actions or add-ons that I feel sometimes muddle their pure musical abilities on stage. Look how each is focused on their role in the band, both as individuals and as a group. Powerful. As for Brian, his stage presence, like his musical talent, is undeniable. Complete. And sadly missed in the band's history after his death. What a loss! For me though, what I find especially noteworthy is how the band would survive and grow without him there to help keep them together. A mark of true resiliency.
@@aprilapril2 He had health issues.Jagger and Richards can't say the same, for they lost their looks way sooner than Jones did. Jones had way more talent, intelligence, and charisma than the rest of the band combined.
Valley of the Rogue but jagger and Richards got old.. Brian Jones died very young so of course he didn’t lose his looks, not that he was a stunningly attractive or handsome young man
he was the beginning of the stones but definitely not the end of the stones. Many many more amazing hits came from the rolling stones after his exile from the stones.
Lewis Jones AKA Brian Jones: 2/28/42 - English musician, producer, and songwriter who, in 1962, brought together the musicians and acted as the original bandleader of the Rolling Stones. Jones provided lead guitar, harmonica, keyboards, and backing vocals to the group, in addition to nearly a dozen other musical instruments. Though he was the early driving force behind the songs played and direction of the Stones’ music, he became alienated from his bandmates and fell into substance abuse. He was asked to leave the band in June of 1968, a month after which he was tragically found dead in his swimming pool.
no..this is called TV and the cameras were blocked (not blocked but marked) for this and that's how we do it.....I'm 69 and an actor. When the Stones came on here, the stage is limited and above all....Mick knew he couldn't...they can't do that with cameras in such a limited space.........Mick has always been cool
Brian absolutely spices up this song into the stratosphere. And the crowd lets him know it. Ed Sullivan's ratings went thru the roof when he had rock and rollers on his show so Dean and the others did the same thing and it also boosted their ratings as well. Bill and Keith do look a little nervous at times, maybe being on TV was not their thing initially. If you were one of the privileged ones to see Brian play, then count your blessings. Unfortunately I did not get to.
I was a little kid when they came on the scene. Thought they were way cool and seeing this long-ago vid of 'em makes me proud of myself for getting it so right, because as you can see...........
Notice how Dean says "Here's something for the youngsters". At that time this was music that only teenagers were supposed to like and for the most part that was true.
excuse me...I HAVE BEEN HERE since 1948. Dean was being cool bringing on a young sound for us teeners (I was about 14 then) and we were excited to see when the Dave Clark Five came to the Long Beach arena, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, and the rest. We teens had great tunes to listen too and this was just another new one!
Here we see the entering of a new era, a new culture into society, in contrast to Martin. He probably didn't like their music, but he knew this was going to take over his generation's music.
This clip is from The Hollywood Palace. It was a weekly variety show that aired back in the ‘60’s, and featured a different host each week. Apparently, it was Dean who hosted this particular episode.

That stage just wasn't big enough for Mick and Brian for some reason. I bet the industry wanted to promote Mick. I heard Brian was pushed out of his own band.
Brian Jones was forced by the other members to quit the group during the recordings of the album Let It Bleed. With every single one of these Stones videos with the original lineup, the eyes and attention are drawn not to Mick Jagger but to Brian Jones. He just had it all, really, just not a strong enough personality and bad health to overcome the backstabbing he got from Oldham, Jagger, and Richards.
Mick looked so prissy and determined in those early days. He looks like he would sell his soul to the devil to become iconic and everlasting. And he did.
Sixty years and still going and all the so called experts said it won’t last how knowledgeable they were as the public can choose for themselves million of followers still GREAT BAND ❤❤❤
To explain to those too young to remember Dean Martin and his television program: Dean's image was being a jovial drunk. You had to be around then to understand Dean's supposed image and that introduction. Surely the Stones knew his image. In reality, Dean wasn't much of a drinker at all, certainly not anything approaching an alcoholic, and was a very shy, very private man. He drank apple juice onstage on his television show. He was cold sober pretending to be inebriated. He was a genuinely good person. I also didn't notice anything untoward Martin by the Stones. From the beginning they were the consummate professionals. I think people need to quit making stuff up about Brian flipping Dean Martin off. It didn't happen. Unlike the Ed Sullivan Show for most of its years, Dean Martin's program was not live but prerecorded. Buddy Holly this
Literally underrated
