Hike and Fly paraglidng tandem Mont Blanc challenge, October 2022 French Alps

Our challnage to hikke and fly from the roof of Europe, summit of Mont Blanc in the French Alps. We chose the classic route leading through Bellevue, Refuge Tête Rousse and up towards Refuge du Goûter.

We took off from the car park in St Gervais Les Bains early in the morning. Then follow the Tramway du Mont Blanc towards Col de Voza, then we passed the Bellevue funicular station. From there, the hiking trail led on the left side of the slope to return to the track trail of the railway again. Small stop at the final station of the tramway. Continue up the rocky road to Baraque des Rognes. From there it was much more difficult because the rocky slope was covered with snow. In the evening we reached Refuge Tête Rousse. There, the open winter part of the hostel was waiting for us. A decent meal to regenerate strength and sleep. We left for Refuge du Goûter very early, around 4 am. The snow on the approach was deep and hard-frozen. We passed the Couloir of Death very fast. Around 7 am we stood on the stairs leading to the shelter. That day we stayed at the shelter, doing only a small acclimatization trip. Fatigue set in. The previous day we covered 2600 m of elevation. In the morning another 650 m. We needed rest. The next morning we set off towards the summit. We reached the Valot hut, where we planned to rest. We were already halfway to the top, at an altitude of about 4,300 m. Symptoms of altitude sickness appeared. We decided to return. Also strong gusts of wind at this altitude intensified the feeling of fatigue. We ate a meal at the Gouter shelter, took a nap and decided to go paragliding. The weather conditions were getting worse by the hour. The start was not easy. When the wing stood over our heads and we made a jump floating in the air, we breathed a sigh of relief.

Oh geez that escape looks so scary!! What an incredible experience though! Why have I not taken this on as a hobby yet?! 😅😂
