I'm so glad to see how there's a blend between real and computer-generated effects. CGI is incredibly useful for things that we can't reliably represent in real life but the real models like these make them feel that much realer
As a vegan I appreciate the amount of effort and skill put in by these artists and technicians that prevents actual animals from being hurt, killed and exploited. Thank you.
@@Lvcius It's not just about octopuses mate but other animals, their skin, fur and other body parts too. Definitely. I was about to make a joke about CGI seafood in Asian cinema, but let that be... I just discovered these movie insider videos and I must say: so interesting!! I really enjoyed the one about how sounds for animation are made. These artists are so freaking talented! I wish I had even a fraction of their talent at anything at all lol.
It's a real shame that they spend so much time on these detailed looking props only for them to get completely covered up by the seriously fake looking CGI.
You seem like the sorta guy who thinks Fury Road used no CGI, and trumpets this "fact" in the comments section of as many movie-related videos he can find, hoping people will think he's a discerning film-buff.
@@fireaza Haha, not a guy and never seen Fury Road. So, nope! I think CGI is great in things like backgrounds or fire, but animals and people usually look pretty awful. Unless, we're talking about Jurassic Park or something like that. Those effects are still mind blowing to me.
I thought exactly the same. Those props look amazing. But the CGI effects up close are really unconvincing. You can see that no octopus tentacles are touching the face. You can clearly see where the contours brake.
Thank you for being an advocate for animals everywhere, helping share this vital (and fascinating!) information, Insider. Because it doesn’t matter how beautiful you are, if you are cruel to animals then you are ugly from the inside.
8:10 They should've got a real octopus and picked it up on camera as a reference. Because that octopus looks totally fake and it's mostly down to its movement.
So where did the PELTS come from? Lol I am First Nations, and years ago, we had a group of rich kids doing volunteer work in our neck of the woods, my aunt invited them to have Indian tacos and since we were already drying some deer meat. The kids were all really eager to try dry meat. They were largely vegetarian or strict vegans. But some, not all we’re willing to put aside their belief, understanding the meat they were eating was wild, and not raised in a cage. They were all for it, then I brought out a hind quarter that still had the lower leg attached with the hooves. Some were unable to stick around during the drying process because of that. Thing is nothing is supposed to be wasted, so we also utilize the hooves, and or dew claws. The idea of the feet being attached to the meat they were going to eat somehow disrupted their idea it being a fairytale I guess.
The word "octopus" is actually derived from Greek, not Latin. So the correct way to pluralize octopus in Greek is "octopodes," and not "octopi." But since "octopus" was adopted into English, the actual correct pluralization for octopus in the English language is "octopuses."
1:05 Painstakingly done, and when you watch it live, it is only 2 secs shot. For what!? Then again, if they don't make it realistic, when someone pauses the live scene in that moment, they would spot the mistake or laziness 😑
“No real animals will be harmed in the making of your movie.” 3:32 Just don’t think about the pelts, skin and feathers, I think they came from somewhere … or someone?
Lol I was thinking the same thing… I mean I am sure plenty of animals die naturally. But the industry has now shifted to animals pelts as opposed to exploiting an animal get hurt. It is more obvious watching old western movies.
What about in movies when they skin an animal. Some scenes are perfectly realistic. In the man vs. he skins a rabbit. If they’re not actually using a real rabbit I’d love to see how they do it.
Its funny how deep they try to make some things soo real while they could just use VFX 😂😂. About the hamster , i didnt even care or remember this scene until i see this vidéo now
"nobody can tell when the trick starts or ends" uhhh, I disagree. CGI is easy to see, and it is obvious when the animal is fake. I am impressed still regardless.
Of course its "easy to see" its a flying rodent. Its amazing how many geniuses say that when they know it is CGI. Take those same super observant wanna be pantomath's, sit them down with CGI animals without informing them, they say oh look at the pretty animals, and at the end, once told it was CGI and not real they go " Of course I knew it all along!" As kids we called them know it all's, as adults the term is usually "Wind bag!" 😂😂
Sure, "easy to see". Except for all those times there's been CGI right in front of you, but you were completely clueless and assumed it was a practical effect. Because you are not the discerning film-buff, one who is above the riff-raff that are so easily fooled, that you think you are.
Ignore the negative bozos in the comments...they're just trolling because they're probably kids that found out that CGI is used way more than they realize; and got their little "cinema magic" bubbles burst. Seriously though, it's a pet peeve of mine how cheap a lot of CGI looks, even in today's world of technology (one of the main reasons I dislike all these Disney live-action reboots ). CGI animals in particular always have a 'soulless' look and feel about them, compared to the real deal. I agree, the amount of effort they take to try and make practical effects look real (before plastering over it with CGI) is pretty impressive.
Oh really that hamster was fake when it was going ballistic? I thought it was a real hamster doing that! Lol jkn but for real like she had to explain that was fake

this looks so impressive how these craftsmen and craftswomen can make this realistic looking fake animals.
..yeah??
That's so cool!!!!! I'm so glad no animals were harmed especially that poor chicken puppet😥🐔
That squishy octopus reminds me of those sticky things you could get from $.50 machines that would "walk down walls". 😂
