I thought I was too old to cry at movies. The movie is a masterpiece.
Here here
@@pauljohnson271 hear, hear
I think the more older you get (more experience), you feel it even more. What life is
Just saw it again
Broke my heart
Excellent film
Jim Caviezel is one of the most underrated actors in my opinion. Guy deserved an Oscar for this film.
Yes
100% agree. He did amazing an amazing job in this film
He's also great in Frequency
Absolutely agree mate
I agree that he’s good in this film, but he’s also a Qanon espousing nut.
That look in Witt’s eyes when he knows he’s going to die. He doesn’t fight it, he accepts it and like all of us, there’s the look of momentary surprise that THIS is it.
I like how the camera pans up to the sun in the trees, indicating that he’s crossed over, then we see him with the villagers.
Indeed. but I would rather die than being captured by the japanese soldiers.
@@marvinkem3201 yes many vets who were captured by the Japanese came home with serious ptsd and bitter hate toward the Japanese people.
The look was not only the realization that it was his moment, but that it was the same moment he saw with his mothers' death. And unlike he says in the beginning of the film, this time he can see the good in death.
So powerful. Possibly the greatest movie ever ever made.
I agree, it has been my favorite movie for 7 years now !
It's not a film imho, it's visual poetry
I listened to this song when my partner of three years parted ways with me. After feeling bitter and angry for a few days, I then listened to this music and remembered all the beautiful and happy times we had together. I reminded myself that life can be beautiful and we should treasure the beauty in our lives.
You are someone from whom we can all learn something.
what a great comment and attitude, I should try to be more like that, thank you
Cherish god above all else, our time on this earth is but a vapour when compared to the eternal, what we do in this life has profound repercussions in the next, seek Jesus now while he may still be found
The woman I loved and who said loved me also left me a couple weeks ago. And this music also helped and is helping me in the same way. It's trite and cliche but there is a profundity to not 'being sad that it's over' and enjoying that it happened at all. Your perspective is a beautiful one and will help me through this night. Thank you.
Become a sociopath and it won't matter
I think about this scene a lot, wondering if at the time of death I'll be granted the moment to pause and see that this is really it. That I'm about to disappear or go elsewhere. I just hope that when that time comes, there isn't too much regret in my heart.
It saddens me that people overall cited Inception, Dark Knight or Interstellar as Zimmer's best work... In my opinion, The Thin Red Line is the most beautiful and breathtaking score Zimmer ever composed... I prefer this one over Time any time
InfinyteGard3n I'm ok with you
So true
Inception takes a lot of inspiration from thin red line
They were good tunes but since 1999 and the thin red line......I'm stuck. 20 years and still in my.mind when I feel up or down. Hans Zimmer melodies in this movie and the character's live in me all the time. Whenever I'm down or on the up I still remember the soundtrack......I can't explain it to anybody close to me as they don't seem to understand. I was 22 when I first saw and heard the movie....I've been through a lot since....good and bad.....the music still remains in my head
....
Same here. Get the 5 hr complete score with alternates!
I think the age of movies like this is over.
I feel the same way. I haven’t seen a movie impact me like this in years. This soundtrack alone has made such an impact on me. The message behind the move has as well. Good times those were.
In Hollywood yes, but independent filmmakers around the world will carry on.
The public is totally narcissistic all they want to see is I can do anything - super hero movies
Bullshit, every year there are still masterpieces coming out.
this was a brave move in a time when braver moves for artistic reasons were slowly being phased out of box office
Why only 2 minutes? :(
More than 15 years and still my favorite movie.
An astounding piece of art. One of the Greatest films ever made.
And mine. It reached something inside of me I can't let go.
Undeniably a masterpiece.
"I've seen another world. Sometimes I think it was just my imagination."
Where's your spark now ?
This is the perfect music for the character. So right for the scene. It connects us with the Witt's paradise seen in the opening scenes. Very emotional and maybe the key scene in the whole movie. This is based on a traditional Malesian song (from the beginning of the film), which Klaus Badelt has arranged for the orchestra. It is not by Hans Zimmer or Badelt.
What’s the name of the song?
Jisas Yu Holem Hand Blong Mi ('Jesus You Hold My Hand') -- Melanesian choir semi-gospel.
The best war movie ever made... absolutely real and hearthbreaking. This is war.
Saving private Ryan is better
Totalmente de acuerdo.. The Thin Red Line es la mejor película de guerra menos bélica y más filosófica y por lo tanto más humana.
Can only support this. Saving Private Ryan was nice but The Thin Red Line broke me
No.
Totally agree.
When I transition from this world, I hope I hear this music
Bless you....same here
I totally believe this.
Patrick Wolff You won’t.
Oblivion awaits.

This is my absolute favorite movie!
My favourite movie of all time. I could see parts of me in all three main characters. Brilliant acting, brilliant character philosophy. Gripping and sad. I wonder if the other characters the movie depicted from the book survived the war.
❤❤
The Thin Red Line is not just the greatest WW2 film ever made but also the greatest war film of all time. It's amazingly powerful and emotional that it truly touches the soul and that's the type of masterpiece that is really special. I can't think of another war film that has had such a profound effect on me both spiritually and mentally.
I play this music sometimes and close my eyes. I have flash-backs of my own just like the ones Witt has when he gets shot.
I'm swimming in the Adriatic sea, the water is fresh and the wind is chilling, and when I turn around I can see my friends laughing. I want to go back to shore but I can't move, because this scene is so pretty. It's such a pure memory. I'm so glad this movie exists. It's one of a kind.
Beautiful memory.... reminds me of those moments of beauty and joy like CS Lewis describes.
Great piece, this movie and the score speak volumes to me. I continue to admire Saving Private Ryan generally speaking but as a modern day combat veteran, although our experiences can never compare to that of these men, I honestly think that this movie has a lot more to offer. I think about my experiences and simultaneously play the score in my head. Sometimes I don’t know what to think, I guess that at least and for the moment, I feel at ease with myself, or at peace, while listening to this!
Girlfriend left me after 7 years. Listening to this remember me of the good times, and know that is still love and happines out there in this beautiful amazing world, dont rust guys. Keep moving, living in the past will justbring you a heart of stone and sadness.
no words. no words at all.
I will never understand why this is unreleased.
This part hurts me evey day yet brings a smile to my face x.... thank you terrence mallick and hans zimmer x.....I can rest in peace knowing u guys are in charge xxx
All of us... We have the same spark. Witt is in all our souls.
One time in my life, I found a place of calmness, I have yet to find that place again. Time stopped. I was apart of everything. I needed nothing. I could see and feel all there was. If I only could have stayed there. I think of it often.
Don't have to look or search too hard.... Pretty sure 'It' is already searching for you.
Witts mind dwells in such a place. Or at least that is my interpretation of that character.
He is focused and alert while still being content and peaceful. Best of luck in your search my friend.
Isn't it wonderful? Hard to find when you are looking. I think Dwight has the right idea. Let it come to you. What ever made you ready to experience it before is still true. Maybe just make room. Good luck.
Wow, stealing this :)
"It was you who killed my friend.
Surrender. Do you understand? I have no desire to kill you. You are surrounded be brave and surrender. I do not wish to kill you. Do you understand?"
the movie doesn't paint the japanese as evil.
Is it what the Japanese soldier say at the end? I wondered
@@RosaGlee
Yes.
Stop police vandalizing my house & cyberstalking
I think Witt died to complete his sacrifice to his men. That way the Japanese would not have witt as a prisoner to negotiate.
Cheers for that. I always wanted to know what that soldier said to Witt ...
This goes straight to the soul. Everything on this song connects with the deepest and most espiritual meaning of my life.
Недооцененный фильм !
Актёрский состав отличный .
А музыкальные композиции это Шедевр !!!
Beautiful, im speechless right now. It made Witt's death look like his freedom from war. Absolutley beautiful!!! Thank you
So beautiful. I want this playing the moment I die. I was always bummed they never had this song on the soundtrack to the movie.
How is it the most beautiful part of the film us the death of a soldier? It is because of the inner peace he has with dying. We all wish to experience a death that we are at peace about. Beautiful film.
Nathaniel Berry You know, it's kinda funny how people seem to be at their greatest point of peace when they see death coming for them and they just know without realizing that there's no escape. You see it in quite a few incidents and I feel this is really something this movie just...got. You know what I mean?
Zach Zier it is the feeling of unbeknownst of what comes next along with leaving the suffering of our world.
Could listen to an hour long loop of this. Amazing
For real. The music paired with this movie was the closest I've had to a religious experience.
One of the best movies on all time, Witt the best of men
I love how this piece has tones of "Jisas Yu Holem Hand Blong Mi" all over it. Not Hans Zimmer handing me the feels in a matter of seconds.
If I never meet you in this life . . . let me feel the lack.
Everything's a lie
Gets me in the feels every single time 😢
I love this film, so much.
I've seen another world. sometimes i think it was just my imagination...
Thierry Henry maybe it was a glimpse of the world to come... eternity: the Kingdom of God
@@carolinafine8050
don't think it's about god. his soul lives on through the plant. you're supposed to find nature beautiful. music is supposed to be sad but beautiful at the same time.
his death brings the birth of a plant... new life.
I fell in love with this movie back in 1998 when it came out. I remember not too long after it came out in theatres back when you had to have them old cable boxes HBO had it on they're rotation and I remember as a 9 year old boy just watching and rewatching this movie! The music and the way the film portrays the realness of combat is what makes it stand out above all other war movies I've seen! All star cast and just great scenes!
Mahalo for sharing this beautiful music, from a movie that deserves greater recognition!
Aloha 😊❤️🙏🏼🤙🏼
Thank you for this my friend.
sometimes you can come across a song that sends goosebumps down your back, you close your eyes, and let it take you to a different place. this is one of those.
At last!!! everybody was waiting for this marvel to release. Infinite thanks for uploading this
This music is now available on the La-La Land 4CD expanded soundtrack.
"What difference do you think you can make, one single man in all this madness? If you die it's gonna be for nothing. There's not some other world out there where everything's gonna be okay. There's just this one. Just this rock."
I wish that song to be played at my funeral...
The beautiful touching moment in the whole film! It makes you hope to hear this music when you pass to the other side.
We had to put our family dog, Lenora, to sleep, and after we buried her, I went inside and played this song, and the years we're falling. Burying a beloved pet is like burying a loved one.
Because you are.
At last. You really made my day (or week even) :)
The missing piece to the most touching part of the movie! Thanks!
9 people have no spark.
I still see a spark in them.

This is why I love youtube, I adore this music, thanks for sharing.
This movie was a masterpiece.
I have enjoyed this soundtrack forever and always loved this track (not on the soundtrack). Great 'find"!
TRL one of the most beautifully scored films ever. Hans Zimmer!
Hello everyone what great music
35 People have no spark
So grateful for this music!!! Saved my life!!!!
"Where's your spark now..." If I remember correctly the name of this song is "A man himself can be great", but I could be wrong.
That scene was perfect
Welsh's tears were the spark
Beautiful film
Фильм шедевр! Потрясающая музыка! Одна из лучших ролей Джеймса Кэвезила!
Jeremiah 17:9-10

Le plus beau moment, de ce déjà très beau film !
I still hope that one day we'll get the true directors cut. I have loved this movie from my first watch, in large part due to the incredible work by Hans Zimmer and the Melanesian choir.
It is hard to get the image of Caviezel of Christ out of my mind -- this film preceded Passion by six years, and I saw them in their proper chronological order -- but there's something greater than the sum of its parts here, when Pvt. Witt reaches some inner peaceful decision and chooses to "transcend." It's hard to put into words. Almost like he takes the sun, and the sand, and the swimming schoolchildren into himself, realizing his life is at an end, and makes that (sun, sand, swim) his final moment. Maybe I'm just stating the obvious, but it jumped right out of the theater for me. Made me wonder if I could do similarly, when my time came (car crash, deathbed, illness, etc.).
In this world a man... himself... is nothing... and there's ain't no world.. but this one...
I have just re-watched the movie and was drawn by light and darkness's role in it. After Witt's death, there is a shot of light flowing down from the darkened roof of the jungle. Whereas after a battle scene, there is shot of light shining through pierced leaves which follows scenes of men showed in the vulnerability that war brings upon them.
Or another when the company is about to move back into battle and the roof of the jungle is showed again but without any light getting through.
I think that Terrence wanted, in his way, to give us a glimpse of what this "Truth" is insofar as it is shewed by the effects of war on our nature. Men's spirits, after battle, become crippled and numb. Nature doesn't vie against itself, but men do. Butterflies roam the battlefield, the scenery... as wonderful as ever. Nature isn't shown as chaotic, but peaceful in the heart of the battlefield. Nature is calm, such as Witt before his death.
Darkness is only the wounds caused by the barbarian killing of war, and the unconsciousness that arises through contact with such inhuman behavior. This state of unconsciousness only results in more pain inflicted : because we become numb to the acts of savagery we are asked to perpetrate.
It was not just your imagination...
when i first seen this film i thought i was too old cry at movies
Best war movie i have ever seen
Just finished the James Jones source novel and the beginning and the last forty minutes of the film are totally different , but the majority of the film follows the book fairly close except the Elias Koates character is named differently. The book starts a little slow but once the soldiers reach the island and the battle gets going it becomes compelling reading. I am not normally into war movies but neither the book nor the film glorify or romantisizes war and this not some John Wayne guts and glory wet dream. Horrible things happen to the characters.....and they do horrible things. Isn't there a line in the film (although not in the book) where a character (perhaps Witt) who says how war reduces people to animals? I had a grandfather who fought in WW 2 and refuses to talk about his experiences. I cannot even imagine. I grow to appreciate The Thin Red Line with each viewing (I have probably seen it four or five times now in its entirity) but I still feel it drags once they have captured the hill and there is still a good thirty to forty minutes to go. The book also suffers from this anti-climactic element but it moves ago and sustains interest in the characters.....who those who have survived the battle. What surprised me was the language in the book. It was published in 1960 and censorship was still stronge. Anyone who enjoys the film should read the book.....very highly recommended, but does not have much of the philosophical ponderings as in the film.
In french : Mourir ou crever !
GREG FREEMAN Yeah on how war reduces people to animals? the line is Private Witt: [narrating] War don't ennoble men. It turns them into dogs... poisons the soul. - www.imdb.com/title/tt0120863/quotes
But it seems to be our favorite poison.
GREG FREEMAN Weeeellll, the movie changed just about every character from the book, especially Witt - he went from a good ole Kentcuk hillbilliy to some kind of Humanistic Superhero wet dream - so what's the difference?
GREG FREEMAN I believe, off the top of my head, that was the John C. Reilly character who says that. Can't even remember his name in the movie. Like you, each time I see it, I find it better and better.
Perfect melody to the earth heaven transition... Hope i can hear this to
Music that makes me weep every time!
I love you, Molly.

My favorite movie
Witt's death is so perfectly staged... Without words.
Song makes me miss my one friend who passed too young. 💞
💀💀☠💀💀 I miss her vaguely goth, quirky self.
(Years 2013 to 2015), were the best times of my life.
This is the film Mel Gibson said he was watching when he realized he wanted Jim Caviesal to play Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ". He was really awesome in this film. It was a bit talky and pretentious, but aren't all of Mallick's films? Still, the soundtrack is beautiful.
The film is a masterpiece.
It is a deeply philosophical film dealing with the nature of humans, love, war, pain and afterlife. I wouldn’t call it pretentious, because it‘s all about thinking of the purpose of life, and how we should approach & appreciate it. Only very few movies deal with such strong issues, that‘s why The Thin Red Line is one of the greatest of all time.
Hi - thanks, you might also like another video with the full version of Morphine! ;)
my favorite soundtrack! have other songs?
I cheated and broke my own heart...
Hans Zimmer paid tribute to him
Ive got this sentimental feelings with this movie especially with Prvt Witt.....coz my Grandfather was in the 1st Malay Regiment that fought the Japanese Imperial Army during the WW2 Japanese occupation in Malaya.....My Gand with his small company of the Malay Regiment were dug in Bukit Timah...defending Singapore...along side the lagendary Lt Adnan. Most if not ALL, of his company mates fell ...but they did not surrendered to the Japanese, they hold their position to he last men....wave after wave the japanese came and they manage to hold Bukit Timah with small gourp of men...but when bullets were out, rifles were hot, bullets stuck, men died and wounded...they still fought untill they were "Captured"... The Japanese were very furious because many of their soldiers were killed....So they tied the remaining Malay regiment and hang them on the trees and bayoneted to them death.......... "No Surrender"...No Surrender! ..my Grand was one of them.
When I listen to this, it's just me and the Universe.
Джим та сцена где твой герой принимает свою смерть с тем же спокойствием что и его мать под музыку цимера феноменальна долгих тебе лет жизни и счастья и цимеру тоже.
